Can I lease a car with no licence?

My test is on Thursday. Hopefully I pass! It's come to my attention that you can actually drive a car as if you would with your full license without actually having the license in your hands (it gets sent off for).

Does anyone know if I can go and lease a car from a car dealership with no license (but obviously having passed my test, just waiting for the physical license).

I'm guessing not really? And I suppose you couldn't test drive without it as they'd have no evidence you aren't going to kill yourself and whoever is accompanying you on the test drive Grin

I know the car I want and I'm eager to have it ASAP. Travelling around without a car is extremely difficult so it would be nice to just have it before the license arrives.

Why would you want a new car the minute you pass your test ? Chances are you will have a bump in ti within the first year

lilypips · 06/09/2019 21:56

Well it's a motability car so covered under their insurance.

Just be careful before you dismiss all the added extras because they take a bit of time. You could be stuck with a bog standard base model car that doesn’t do half of what you want it to. A lot of stuff you might expect to be in there might be an additional extra. Have a good look at the specs for each model and variant and see what’s included as standard. The good stuff is always extra because they can charge for it.

Did you not read what I've said at all?

Because the OP is disabled and having a Motability car will presumably make her life much easier?

You'll have the car a long time, maybe 3 years, so I'd get the extras you need even if it adds a bit if a wait. Like Parking Sensors, Sat Nav....

BarbaraofSeville · 07/09/2019 09:01

Parking sensors yes, but I wouldn't pay extra for an inbuilt sat nav in a car, they're hideously expensive and every single one I've seen has been fiddly to programme. you really don't need anything other than your smartphone these days.

DerelictWreck · 07/09/2019 09:04

Op you don't need a license to test drive a car. Am doing lots of test drives atm as looking for a new car and haven't been asked for my license once!

Toddlerteaplease · 07/09/2019 09:16

I looked at a leased car through a salary sacrifice scheme. But you have to have been driving a year.

What's your point? How is this in anyway helpful or relevant?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/09/2019 21:12

Well if it turns out the lease agreement that the Op is looking at requires her to have held a license for a year then it’s a good point.

Jeez. Who pissed on your chips?

lilypips · 08/09/2019 21:15

Well it won't 'turn out' to be the same as the PP situation as it's a motability car.

Nobody pissed on any chips, I just don't see the point in people saying what happened to them in a completely different situation.
