Day off work today and enjoying my first child free day after the hols.
I have been to an exercise class (and struggled after the large gap since the last one) I've had a scotch pancake with Nutella and banana with a cappuccino in peace and just Mn-ing and reading my new book till 12.
Then will do an hour of house cleaning, shower then taking my friend out for afternoon tea at 2 for a birthday present.

What's everyone done with their first child free day if you're not working?

Walked the dogs on the school run, took the eldest to college (first day, I won’t be doing that normally), cleaned the oven and I’m now sitting down watching Jack Ryan with a coffee, contemplating a little snooze.

Hoppinggreen · 05/09/2019 11:46

Walked dog, picked up new school trousers for DS ( who appears to have grown over the summer), done some washing and I’m going to see my Mum soon.
Then will take the dog for another walk/to pick up DS.
There’s actually not a huge amount of time between drop off and pick up really

mbosnz · 05/09/2019 11:59

Gone for a walk, doing three loads of washing, wetdusted, cleaned the glass and polished. Going to deepclean both bathrooms, make a maccy cheese, as requested for first day back at school, and do the ironing.

And try and comfort the cat, who is upset that her kittens aren't at home.

I’m not a SAHM but I work part time so now have four days off.
I’ve cleaned the house which took hours as it hasn’t been done properly all holidays. Relaxed and checked my emails. I’m now going to work out a budget for the next few months while watching a bit of TV.
I’ll cook something nice for tea and generally make my family’s lives much easier than if I worked full time!

pumpkinpie01 · 05/09/2019 12:15

I was really looking to my day off today , was going shopping with my DD for uni stuff and an outfit for a big night out this Saturday we would have had a nice relaxed lunch. But DS6 has been bad in the night with his asthma we have been to the drs twice today and I've got to monitor him incase we need to go to hospital 😩

InDubiousBattle · 05/09/2019 12:22

Yesterday was my dc's first day back , well it was ds's first day back in year 1 and dd's very first day in reception. I cleaned the kitchen yesterday and am working on the living room and playroom today. I'm starting work in a couple of weeks so want the house completely sorted. I miss the kids.

Livebythecoast · 05/09/2019 12:47

@pumpkinpie01 - hope your son is okay - worrying for you x
I'm on a day off too. DD went back today.
I've hoovered and blitzed the bathroom, getting rid of loads near empty shampoos, conditioners, etc (exciting I know).
Sitting down for a bit of lunch (brie and crackers), flitting between MN and googling batch cooking (inspired by another thread). My hours increase as of next week so I'm trying to be organised Smile.
OP , enjoy your afternoon tea!

Spinnaret · 05/09/2019 12:52

I don't really count as I have a full time home based job. But my younger DS does not go back until next week.😬

elasti · 05/09/2019 12:58

Done 1hr 45 in the gym , been to Tesco, had lunch. Will do housework and lawn mowing in a bit.

Grambler · 05/09/2019 12:59

All the curtains, bedclothes, sofa cushions, cutlery and crockery are still where I put them this morning. The dishwasher is empty and has remained so, the fridge is full and has remained so. I've done two loads of washing, and no one, not even the cat, has complained about my music being for old people and so I have sung along to it loudly. And I've made a dozen phone calls without being disturbed by whinging or fighting.

WhenDoISleep · 05/09/2019 13:02

First day back for both DC's was yesterday. I didn't do much other than sit down and enjoy the quiet - not being mithered by demands for food every five minutes or having to play referee because one DC thinks the other looked at him funny. I did stretch to changing the DC's bedding, a small top-up shop and ordering new school shirts and trousers for DC1 who has outgrown his over the holidays, having had room in them at the start of the summer. Today/tomorrow I'm tackling the mess of the kitchen, bathroom and hallway/landing and still enjoying the peace and quiet.

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 05/09/2019 13:02

We’re all cleaning! 😆 I’ve done the bathroom, and blitzed all the bedrooms, and hoovered upstairs.

I’m really tempted to go out blackberry picking so I can make jam. But I feel a bit shy going out by myself with a carried bag.. I have no idea why.

Livebythecoast · 05/09/2019 13:16

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo Do NOT go blackberry picking! Or stand in front of houses taking photos of horses in fields Grin

confusedofengland · 05/09/2019 13:17

So far - had a quick coffee at home, took some old football kit to the school (donation as DH is chairman of youth football team & had a clear out over the summer), Aldi shop. Hung out washing, sorted out football stuff, went to pick up Scout trousers for DS1 & drop football keys to parish council. Just had lunch then need to sew on 5 Scout badges, each one takes me at least 15 mins as I really struggle!

Need today to make bolognese for dinner, make crumble & cake with some overripe fruit & hang out another load of washing, at least, but won't happen!

Yy to pp who said there's not much time, especially when others DH keep sending you on football errands Hmm

Kuponut · 05/09/2019 13:24

Did some prep work for uni, updated the family google calendar (look it up yourself DH - the kids are able to, I'm no longer available for secretarial services), found the bottom of the washing basket and caught up on some TV I'd not been able to watch - then watched the news without DD1 wittering on asking if they'd need a great big saw to cut us away from Europe if we leave the EU and saying it sounded like something Grandmaster Glitch would do.

Mrsfrumble · 05/09/2019 13:33

DCs went back yesterday. Straight after drop off I went and gave blood (the blood donation service have been chasing me all summer, but I reeeaaally didn’t want to do it with the children in tow) then I went and met DH for a lovely quiet, grown up lunch.

Today I’ve been buying pot plants in Homebase and now I’m going to clean as the letting agent is coming to do an inspection tomorrow.

EmmaStone · 05/09/2019 13:41

Mine went back today, so tomorrow will be my first day off (I work 4 days). Unfortunately, there's never really too much downtime on these days, as it's a washing day, change sheets day, clean the house (since my cleaner binned me off a few weeks ago). DH is away at the weekend, so can't delegate any of the work into the weekend either (although can delegate some to the DC). Having said that, I'm taking the DC to London on Saturday, so only Sunday available anyway.

However, I am seeing my PT for a hour's beasting for the first time in a month - eek! And meeting a friend for coffee, so not all work, work, work!

mbosnz · 05/09/2019 14:01

This is nice. No-one has come in to tell us what free loading parasites upon society we are. . . Grin

dustarr73 · 05/09/2019 14:11

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 05/09/2019 14:13

Took the dog on an 8km walk, got lost so walked for 10km instead. Washed sheets and hung them out in the sun. Walked to local cafe and worked for 3 hours on MA dissertation. Now about to head home to garden for a couple of hours. Then I might read for a bit before getting on with more research. DH is away with work for a few nights and DS has just returned to boarding school.

Deelish75 · 05/09/2019 14:19

DS went back yesterday, DD starts in reception next Monday, I've already promised myself to sit down with a cup of tea and enjoy the silence. DP is off next Monday as well so we'll probably get some jobs done around the house that are difficult to do when she's around.

GoodwithRocksandGems · 05/09/2019 14:20

Also made a Mac n cheese as requested. Prepped and cooked more apples from the tree. Tidied garden a bit and walked dog. Planning 15 mins of arm exercises and quick cuppa before school run.

FrenchyQ · 05/09/2019 14:24

DS went back to school yesterday and I've taken 3 days off work.
Yesterday I was supposed to be having minor surgery to have a mole removed but it was cancelled at the last minute.
So took DD out to get all her stuff as shes moving to a residential college next week.
Today I'm meant to be revising for an exam resit

YaySeptember · 05/09/2019 14:49

I'm not a sahm but I'm not at work for another few weeks. Yesterday and today I slept most of the day because I've been feeling very rough, worn down and ill over the last month. Tomorrow I'm going to go into town and enjoy shopping and a quiet drink all by myself. Then I'm going to tidy up the house before the weekend.

slavetolife · 05/09/2019 15:13

Went and had a look round the local auction, then went to the stable yard and hosed/scrubbed my horse's rugs which need repairing before winter. Went for a nice ride, went to Lidl. Now about to pick DD up then off to bed for an hour's snooze as I'm working a night shift tonight - love it when they back to school!
