My strangely comforting love of stationery - anyone else a secret stationery geek??

I have just spent 30 minutes online coveting a new notebook - I can't decide between a rhodia or one of these atoma beauties
www.cultpens.com/i/q/AM67893/atoma-amazing-texon-cover-disc-bound-refillable-notebook-brown-a5
Quite excited by the concept off disc binding ...

Where does this love of notebooks / stationery come from? I certainly don't need any more. Is it some sort of anti-tech vibe, or nostalgia for my long ago student days, is it the simple pleasure of writing, or just the thought of lists and being in control. I have no idea but a new notebook can cheer me up no end ...

My DH meanwhile doesn't get it at all. So am i am my own with this or are there other secret stationery addicts out there? If you are, what's your can't live without notebook, pen, accessory, whatever and why???

In my first ever job I was in charge of ordering stationery. We had the best stocked stationery cupboard you've ever seen!

owl89 · 04/09/2019 23:20

I LOVE a good new notebook. I buy so many beautiful notebooks but I never write in them because I wouldn't want to ruin them :)

AlexaShutUp · 04/09/2019 23:20

I love stationery. DH doesn't get it either but DD does!😁

SilkClayFlowers · 04/09/2019 23:20

I love stationary. I just bought my(self) son a colourful sellotape making machine fromLIDL and can wait to crack it open!

SilkClayFlowers · 04/09/2019 23:22

The half price crayola kits this time of year are irresistible.

CarrieBlu · 04/09/2019 23:22

Oh I love it too OP. When I go shopping I don’t bother with clothes or shoes anymore. I’m not even that interested in beauty products either. But I can spend ages looking at beautiful stationary. Buying something like a nice notebook makes me feel all warm and happy inside.

Claphands · 04/09/2019 23:25

When I was 12, me and my best friend used to frequent the local stationary shop, I think it was called Partners if anyone remembers them? It was a discount place so we’d buy loads of nice pens, notebooks etc just because we enjoyed buying them, it was a really popular shop with school kids but this was nearly 40 years ago!

MrsJoshNavidi · 04/09/2019 23:27

It's stationEry. If you love it so much everyone, spell it correctly!! Smile

perplexedagain · 04/09/2019 23:28

Oh thank god. There are others like me .... I too have given up on the beauty fixes and shoes obsession as I have realised I can get to my happy place with a notebook! Currently enjoying using my Dingbats orange tiger journal

Yes thanks for that rudeness Josh, it was a typo ffs

HawthornLantern · 04/09/2019 23:35

Total stationery-holic here.

And did you know that Mumsnet actually has a dedicated board ...

The Stationery Cupboard

I love it too.

Even though I write letters so rarely it is hardly worth buying it these days.

But pens.

I love a good pen.

AllWrong2 · 05/09/2019 10:57

Anyone into bullet journals? Give meaning to your stationery addiction!

Restarted it after a false start in January. I now carry a bag full of different pens and pencils along with my bujo and even a personal sized filofax. Gives me reason to write by hand in this modern world.

MrsCasares · 05/09/2019 11:03

For my birthday my dh got me a cross botanical fountain pen.ddog got me a leather bound notebook that looked like something from game of thrones.
I was in seventh heaven.

JingsMahBucket · 05/09/2019 11:06

I also love stationery and I’m utterly relieved that you actually spelled it properly (for once on MN). I’ve been trying to hold myself back from buying stuff but I actually need to buy a new thin journal but can’t find something I like.

HMArsey · 05/09/2019 11:08

Oh, I love stationery. Cult Pens is my go-to for my stationery fix. I write with a fountain pen, so paper quality is v important. (Leuchtturm, I will never entertain you again after the Great Disappointment of 2018).

The restful beauty of a fountain pen gliding over smooth paper is one of the simple joys of life.

Ohflippineck · 05/09/2019 11:10

Had to purchase new College supplies for son yesterday. A whole 50 minutes perusing in Smiths. Managed to draw the line at smelling the folders though 🤪

perplexedagain · 05/09/2019 15:57

No i didn't know there was a dedicated board. What joy!

HMArsey - I share your disappointment with Leuchtturm - such thin paper!

I have found my people!! My dream is to have a home office not that me or DP need it. Just somewhere I can have my drawers stacked full of every kind of stationary imaginable. Can’t even visit the supermarket without browsing the stationary aisle. My favourite piece has to be my sharpie.

writersbeenblocked · 05/09/2019 17:15

I am so pleased with my new personal hole puncher - not a pathetic one-hole one, but a proper officey push-the-thing-down one! I smile every time I use it! Or at least I would if the bloody thing sat still!

IrmaFayLear · 05/09/2019 17:18

Dsis and I have a stationery fetish.

In fact when dsis moved house she found a cardboard box marked "Best stationery - do not use" . Stationery fiends will understand!

BloodyhellMartha · 05/09/2019 17:20

It's a girl thing. Definitely. I bought a new KiKi K planner last year... it was this one

www.kikki-k.com/au/planners/all-planners/leather-personal-planner-medium-mint-11084003.html?cgid=planners-all_planners#start=11

and I bought it in a sale. All the girls in my 6th form class asked 'Is that Kikki K?' and when I said 'Yes - and it was £25 instead of £50' agreed it was a bargain and worth it. ALL the lads went £50 for a notebook? Confused.

They did not get it AT ALL.
