If a snap election is called, who will you vote for?

NewNameJust4Today · 03/09/2019 06:11

This will be such a difficult election, as I reckon almost everyone will vote tactically.

I am a remainer, and was a traditional Labour voter, though that doesn’t feel like home any more.

I also voted no, but now find myself thinking independence might not be the worst option any more.

I will not vote for Johnston.
I like Jo Swinson, but her party will never be big enough to make a big difference.
Corbyn seems a principled man, but he is too far left for me and he’s not a leader - he is a divisive character.
Farage represents all I hate in politics.

I will be voting SNP,, for the first time in my life.

LibDem, dislike Boris and Corbyn because I feel that they put themselves and their own opinions ahead of the party and country.

My Conservative MP was one of the Spartans who kept voting against May - I'd be chuffed if he was deselected!

ThunderR0ad78 · 03/09/2019 13:06

Labour!

hellenbackagen · 03/09/2019 14:13

Weirdly I'm a life long labour voter but I'd vote for boris now - he is the only leader being decisive and actually doing what was voted for . I'm sick to death of the rest of them fannying about , none of them will ever agree and I'm sick of the stale mate. Let's just get it bloody done now and deal with it . I am sick sick sick of Brexit.

The thing about threads like this is they get infected with Spads and MN-entryists. It's hard to believe a lot of the wilder claims about suddenly seeing Johnson or Corbyn or Swinson as messiahs.

whattodowith · 03/09/2019 14:43

I would tactically vote Labour, they have a safe seat in my area so it makes sense.

thecatsthecats · 03/09/2019 14:44

Lib Dems, but not surprising as a member (though not always voter for them).

I do wish people wouldn't say that they'd 'hold their noses' and vote for any party. It's what Hitler said about entering the Reichstag, and it gives me the chills, whoever says it and whoever they're voting for.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/09/2019 14:44

“I am sick sick sick of Brexit”

I’m afraid that however brexit happens, but particularly if BJ leads us into no deal, you are going to have to put up with it for a long long time. If you want it to go away, put your efforts into remaining

LadyOfTheCanyon · 03/09/2019 14:54

@Deathgrip has it nailed. This shouldn't be about personality politics. Any next election will effectively be another referendum, so it's clearly a Labour/ Tory decision or tactical voting where necessary in your constituency.

I do understand agonising over particular stances within manifestos - I am Gender Critical and have a particular issue with the more "woke" elements of parties and their stance on Trans rights. But I would rather wrangle that argument from within the sanctity of the EU than without it, for example. I'm also dead keen on keeping the NHS. Please don't let your subjective feelings get in the way of your vote. It will be a straight run Labour/Tory election so treat it as such.

fantasmasgoria1 · 03/09/2019 14:56

I will vote Labour. The other choices don't appeal to me. I'm not a massive fan of Jeremy corbyn and feel Labour would fare better with another leader but I have always believed in the core basics of the Labour Party.

That's how I feel, too. I want to preserve women's rights because they're seen to be inviolable women's rights, not because we joined forces with a bunch of right wing whack jobs.

HermioneWeasley · 03/09/2019 15:07

I don’t want to vote conservative, but I can’t votw for labour or libdems with their woman hating stance.

Brexit is going to happen, so the stance on women is the biggest issue for me personally

Deathgrip · 03/09/2019 15:14

You think the tories are more concerned about women’s rights?

Brexit is going to happen, so the stance on women is the biggest issue for me personally
It’s not a given, not by a long way.

If No Deal happens, and that means going cap in hand to the US for a trade deal, we can all kiss goodbye to the NHS. It’s gone. How anyone can prioritise their unquantifiable dislike of a man (who just coincidentally has been vilified by the media for no reason other than he’s a risk to the super rich, but apparently that’s unrelated) or a non-binding and exceedingly close referendum result over the future stability of our economy, our NHS and so on... I have no idea.

This is absolutely critical. The tories have had an opportunity to sort out the mess they created and have utterly failed. Someone else needs to try. What do people think will happen if Labour won that’s so much worse than a No Deal Brexit?

itsbetterthanabox · 03/09/2019 15:18

Labour and if we actually don't want another Tory government it's the only option.
I don't agree with everything Labour are doing atm but life for the majority of people will be far better under labour.

stargirl1701 · 03/09/2019 15:23

SNP. I believed we were better together but no more. The U.K. has been destroyed by Brexit. There's nothing left to fight for. No deal Brexit or independence both lead to chaos but at least independence will include reapplying to the EU.

ColaFreezePop · 03/09/2019 15:32

Lib Dem - my Tory MP has a tiny majority and that should be enough to get him out if Labour doesn't split the vote again. Labour are the third party by a long way in my area and the other parties won't stand candidates on purpose.

I may have to go and bloody leaflet to stop avoid the vote being split.

shadypines · 03/09/2019 15:40

Green.....due to present shower of idiots in main parties and the fact that the planet's futuere needs to be high on the agenda.

shadypines · 03/09/2019 15:40

future even!

Mairyhinge · 03/09/2019 15:43

I don't want to get into an argument but how on Gods earth can anyone ANYONE with children, families, homes and jobs vote Tory???
They are systematically destroying this country. They are all public school boys ( rich ones at that) who look down on the rest of us.
I just don't understand and I'd happily hear why, from a Tory voter, why that party should win yet another election.
I don't even care about brexit anymore other than I believe they should have another referendum because whilst this has been going on the country has been dying.
No funding for schools, hospitals, students.
Zero hour contracts that make it seem like unemployment has fallen.
Extremely severe benefits sanctions.
Food banks.
Homelessness.
NHS being secretly (& not so secretly) sold off.
More British companies being sold off/ closed down ( thatcher took the mines, now the steel works are going).
I despair.
Yet genuine labour voters won't vote for JC, why not?? I'd vote labour regardless of the leader of the party because that can always been changed but get this government OUT.

Pat123dev · 03/09/2019 16:06

I’m not sure who I’ll vote for. I’d like Green Party, but I think they’re a bit closed, things like small bus8ness and schools all that stuff doesn’t seem important to them.

I’ll also reckon there’s a lot who’ll vote Tory, but won’t say for fear of getting abuse.

Slinkenconken · 03/09/2019 16:09

I don't know. Tory MP with a large majority here. He's a total no deal Brexiteer, but the area narrowly voted remain, as did I. Labour always say that they're the only party who can threaten him here, but I don't see them as a viable option for remainers who live here. I reckon Lib Dems would do better, they've had a much higher vote than previously in recent local elections, and did well in the Euros. So I'll probably go Lib Dem.

SalrycLuxx · 03/09/2019 16:11

Tory.

Bookworm4 · 03/09/2019 16:12

@mairyhinge great name
I’m a staunch SNP supporter.
I’ve already posted my astonishment as to how English women can vote Tory, sadly this thread highlights the sheer ignorance regards politics.
Can’t vote Lab or Lib due to their woman hating
Actually speechless any woman could say this; you’d vote for a party led by a lying cheating abusive man instead?
Sadly we are seeing the American cult of personality repeated, I always vote Labour but I don’t like Corbyn 🙄 leaders change and quickly in case you’ve not noticed.
Stop voting selfishly for what it can do for you or your pocket: vote for the better of all.
The Tory cuts and benefit cuts have led to huge numbers of suicides, all those on here with family with additional needs/SEN is this who you’ll keep in power.
Stop thinking about trivial crap, Jeremy is this is that, I’m not a Labour supporter but I’ve got the common sense and decency to see he’s got more of a conscience than the millionaire misogynists of the Tory party.
Research, read make an informed decision.

PersonalJebus · 03/09/2019 16:12

I haven't a clue! Confused

OtraCosaMariposa · 03/09/2019 16:15

Lib Dem, my sitting MP is Lib Dem and if there's one thing i hate more than Brexit, it's the SNP.

EstherLittle · 03/09/2019 16:50

I’m in a staunch Labour constituency and my MP’s majority is 35,000 so it won’t really matter which way I vote. He’s an ok MP I think so will vote for him this time.

I watched Knock Down The House on Netflix and I would urge anyone who is thinking of voting Tory to watch this and see Amy Vallela’s daughter die in her arms aged 21 die to the wrong health insurance. That’s the future without the NHS.
