Simple things that make your life so much edit?

Every night my phone battery would be low and without fail I’d be sitting awkwardly at a funny angle on the couch trying to look through Mumsnet whilst it charged plugged in. DH ordered me a charger for about £10 with a cable over 1m long and it has changed my life! What other small things have made your life much more pleasant?

We keep buying longer and longer iPhone cables. They’re absolutely revolutionary.

YesQueen · 03/09/2019 22:23

It's crazy when you think about it
If someone has told my 16yo self we would carry phone chargers, have lights that turn on by our voice and keyless entry cars I would have been HmmShockConfused
And now it's all normal. I feel old now Grin

Mine are
Snag tights
Paying someone to clean the oven
Realising work will valet my car for free Grin

Girasole02 · 03/09/2019 22:23

Kindle, odeon Limitless pass, handbag organiser insert, heated seat and steering wheel in car, prescription sunglasses, Amazon prime

Girasole02 · 03/09/2019 22:25

Key safe at my house, my rental property and my nan's house (she has dementia)

Cherrysoup · 03/09/2019 22:25

Cordless Dyson, bonkers suction, super quick, I used it as a handheld to do the stairs, it’s amazing!

DukeOfEarlGrey · 03/09/2019 22:27

Love this thread!

Yy to: keyless car entry, hair turban, little box at work with paracetamol, dry shampoo etc. inside, Ocado, Amazon Prime and Uber.

Also:

Getting a ‘smart pass’ to load my season train tickets onto - saves annoyance four times a day when the magnetic strip wears out on the paper tickets

Noise cancelling headphones - I expected them to be good for listening to music, but totally underestimated the joy of also muting other people’s annoying conversations (another commuter pleasure!)

A master password on my MacBook that remembers all my individual passwords

Electric blankets and timer sockets

Like someone else - owning more clothes helps me get through the week without needing to wash/iron. I don’t own lots of stuff in general, but I’ve realised this is the one area where more is more

ChampagneCommunist · 03/09/2019 22:37

Car park apps so I never need to have change.

How do I link PressReader to my library account? Does that turn it into a Premium Account?

kjhkj · 03/09/2019 22:37

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get free audio books without being scammed £9.99 a month by Audible

Just get a pin code from your local library and you can download free ebooks and audiobooks.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 03/09/2019 22:40

A large mixing bowl that has a spout, so great for batter making or french dressing. I have 2 of different sizes.

Pull out drawers opposite the dishwasher so stuff can get transferred quickly when it’s clean

Love my iPad.

Symptomless · 03/09/2019 22:44

Stay-at-home husband. Totally recommended!!

fergusthefrog · 03/09/2019 22:46

Leaving my work ID in my car side door pocket at the end of the day so the next morning I don't have to rummage through my bag to find the key fob to let me into the building when it's pouring down with rain!

Also leave an empty water bottle in the car so I don't have to go and buy one at work if I forget it

And keeping a coat and umbrella in the car always. So simple but so useful

BuildBuildings · 03/09/2019 22:55

Wireless bras from M&S. I've got big boobs and no matter what I tried and how much I spent it was never that comfortable in a bra. Being comfortable is so liberating! I love this thread and had a little spurt of doing things like this at the start of the year. Need to remember what I did! Some great tips on here too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/09/2019 22:56

Chilly's bottle for coffee at work. I fill the bottle in the morning and then pour small cups full from it. Means I only need to trek to the kitchen once.

BuildBuildings · 03/09/2019 22:57

On the keyless car entry. I need to lock my front door so my keys are in my hand as I leave the house so unlocking the car is no bid deal. Is this not the case with most people?

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 03/09/2019 23:02

Also a fan of long charging cables. Revolutionary! Feeling a bit blah today after a hot restless night and some tummy trouble, but I can lie down with my IPad being charged by a socket several feet from my bed. Perfect to binge watch The White Queen.

Also Amazon Prime, where I got the cable.

Ice maker built into the fridge. Lovely cold ice water in an instant.

Instant Pot for quick nutritious meals, especially in winter.

dementedma · 03/09/2019 23:11

I hang my work lanyard over the gear stick in my car when I leave work,so it's always there in the morning without having to hunt for it. Always wear odd socks. It's less hassle and nobody cares.

IDrinkAndISewThings · 03/09/2019 23:36

Getting rid of chests of drawers and switching to hanging all our clothes (except underwear and pyjamas which we have in stash baskets on the top shelf of the wardrobe. Game changer. I can see at a glance if something is there, instead of rummaging through drawers and causing chaos. And it means I just hang everything as it comes out the drier, grab a persons entire quota of clean clothes and one hand and in one swift manoeuvre it's on their wardrobe rail and I'm gone, no drawers to open, no dividing by section, I'm in and out that room without a stir from the kids. Laundry ninja!

LatteLove · 03/09/2019 23:42

Chilly’s water bottle

Baulked at the price - so worth the money ! Cheaper ones don’t compare

Kiwiinkits · 03/09/2019 23:44

Pin code on the front door at home. No need for keys for anyone, no lost keys, no key cutting. Kids let themselves in.
Brilliant

Sunflower20 · 04/09/2019 00:17

I keep a charging cable plugged in in my car, I never worry about my phone dying now.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/09/2019 03:59

A pair of scissors in a drawer in every room in the house, plus the greenhouse and garage. We have at least three packs of the very cheap but excellent quality ones from ikea and don't have to hunt round for scissors anymore.

Slices of lemon and lime in the freezer for my G&Ts.

Spot on wormers for cats instead of tablets that need a wrestling match to administer and you still find the chewed up tablet hidden under the coffee table even when you are convinced the cat swallowed it.

Two deep drawers in all the kitchen base units. It felt weird at first keeping pans in drawers but it is so much easier than fishing round in cupboards.

LeonoraFlorence · 04/09/2019 04:51

I bought several pairs of the Ikea scissors a couple of years ago and it does make life much easier! I use them to cut up fruit, pizza, toast etc. For littlest ones and it’s so easy.

Not having any shite lying around the house. We are RUTHLESS. I have no sentimental stuff lying around, it's all in one small box and once I get my shit together, I'll probably chuck half of that out too.

Having ready-packed bags for stuff. We have a bag for the dog, bags for the weekend ready-packed with underwear and basic clothing, all of our camping stuff is packed together neatly (bedding together, cooking stuff together) in nice boxes. It means that we can leave the house with minimum fuss which is really nice.

Tidying up for 30 minutes a day then stopping, whatever needs to be tidied. No questions asked, no one saying 'oh tidy that instead', we both pick something and have at it. The house looks way better and I don't get stressed trying to do a big tidy at the weekend.

We have a new system where we book cinema tickets every weekend for an early showing eg 10 or 11. We were wasting the weekends lying around, too lazy or tired to get up so this forces us up and means we get to watch a film too, which was something we wanted to do more of. Film is done by 1 or 2, which was the time we were just about managing to get out of the house before, so we're already up, washed, dressed and in town. It's really improved our weekends.

GlitteredAcorns · 04/09/2019 05:58

Hot glue gun

KTCluck · 04/09/2019 07:13

Love the tips on this thread. My recent revelations are:

A unit in the hall, right next to the front door, with a drawer per family member. Each drawer contains that person’s hats, gloves, sunglasses etc. We just grab them as we leave. Top drawer has things like sun cream, lint roller, all keys etc. Also, bags packed nightly and are ready to go by the front door.

A charger cable in every room, one at work, and one in the car.

Like a PP, 2 duvets on the bed. I like to be totally cocooned, DH needs his feet free and just a corner over him. I like a high tog, he likes low. One each = marital harmony.

A major declutter. Then Marie Kondo style folding.

Cordless vacuum

A set of cleaning products and cloths upstairs and downstairs. Switched to Koh cleaner so just one product needed for everything, plus it’s revolutionised cleaning my oven and log burner with no effort at all. Oven cleaning used to be a major job now it’s done in 5 minutes and I actually do it
