Simple things that make your life so much edit?

Every night my phone battery would be low and without fail I’d be sitting awkwardly at a funny angle on the couch trying to look through Mumsnet whilst it charged plugged in. DH ordered me a charger for about £10 with a cable over 1m long and it has changed my life! What other small things have made your life much more pleasant?

About a million baskets so everything has a ‘home’.

Overpurchasing tights and socks for DD so I can actually find a pair.

Overpurchasing on dummies/ dummy clips so I can always find one and she doesn’t drop it if we’re out in the pram.

Reusable wipes- made me realise what an epic waste of money disposable ones are.

Babyliss big hair- I read about it on here and invested!

Brilliant thread!

I will be getting the magnetic spice pots. Can see they will clear a load of space in my cupboard, and the spices will be much more handy on the fridge.

The floor cushion duvet-storage sounds genius. You should sell them!

Ring doorbell ( always see who is at the door)
Cordless hoover
Bento lunch box( lots of healthy snacks at hand)
Handbag organiser of Amazon ( no more rummaging about for things)
Weighted skipping rope
Three barrel hair curler ( easy beach waves)

Realising that by using the plastic cleaning disk I can brew a cup of Yorkshire tea in a minute using the tassimo without an expensive plastic pod and just a regular bag

Amazon Echo in the kitchen and baby's bedroom. Great for setting timers, keeping a shopping list, listening to the radio or Spotify etc when I'm breastfeeding or otherwise have my hands full of baby.

French braiding my hair before I go to bed, so that it's wavy in the morning. I hardly use my hair tongs anymore.

Laying my outfit for the next day the night before also.

Marshmallow root capsules. I have interstitial cystitis and this makes it a lot better.

Learning German on Duolingo. It's a fun new hobby.

Cordless Dyson has been great.

Simple one but two wooden crates that have dc name on. Each night shoes socks undies and uniform go it..

Leaving cereal and spoon out (cling film) so just have to add milk in the morning.

TwattingDog · 03/09/2019 07:41

@Foslady whaaaaat? Description of the method please!

MorrisZapp · 03/09/2019 08:07

Putting my conditioner on before I shampoo. Makes my bleached, frizzy hair soft and floppy.

nachosTrafficante · 03/09/2019 08:09

USB travel plug, use it at home too to charge lots of things at once. I know but it was a revelation to me.

Oh yes the Readly app to read loads of magazines. Costs £7.99 per month for lots of mags plus no old mags cluttering up the house.
Should mention the Kindle too.

Keeping a big basket of boys socks in the playroom. No trying to work out which are whose, they all go in there paired up and everyone has socks without going upstairs and getting distracted in the morning.

And on the theme of socks: only putting paired socks in rooms. Any singles go in a basket and I sort them/pair them weekly. We have far fewer odd socks coming through the wash now.

Getting a recipe book from the library when I take the dc for books. I then use it to plan my menu and shopping list every week. It means I get to try loads of new things, plus I love cooking so it's a bit like a hobby for me now.

I'm hoping that the curtain we've bought to span our archway in our through room will be life changing this winter as well, but it's not up yet.

EmpressJewel · 03/09/2019 08:26

USB plug sockets -.we changed all of them in the house as we have so many items that need charging.

Handbag inserts - not only is my bag organised, but I can easily change my bags.

Reusable cotton pads and panty liners - changed for environmental reasons, but have fit into my life really easily as I chuck them in with my regular laundry.

Bluewavescrashing · 03/09/2019 08:35

I always buy 2 packs of socks at a time,if they are patterned or different colours. Then if one sock gets lost I still have 3 the same. Just a little thing but feels like beating the system 😂

Foslady · 03/09/2019 09:07

@TwattingDog, I just bung a teabag in my mug, put the plastic cleaning disk in and let the boiling water do the rest!

Foslady · 03/09/2019 09:10

Oh, and Whittards fruit tea powder is what - £7.50 a tub? Polish fruit tea granules £1.10 for 300g at the local international supermarket and can also be done via the above method!

EssentialHummus · 03/09/2019 09:26

My local library's e-book scheme.

A large box in the living room for the toddler's toys - everything goes in there, and the room immediately looks neat.

My ancient car. Holds loads, drives well, not a theft magnet, and I don't care in the slightest if it gets dirty/scratched/whatever. Worth literally nothing at this point but sails through MOT every year and drives brilliantly.

MissLadyM · 03/09/2019 10:42

If you're a library member you can use the Pressreader app totally free. It has thousands of UK and international newspapers & magazines. I've saved a fortune! Back issues are available and you can save mags & articles in your personal library!

TheKrakening3 · 03/09/2019 10:49

When I had 3 under 3.5, a backpack instead of a nappy bag was a lifesaver. Free arms!

thethoughtfox · 03/09/2019 11:14

House keys in every handbag.

kjhkj · 03/09/2019 11:21

A sellotape dispenser. Revolutionised wrapping presents at Christmas. Brought me infinite joy!

Agreed. I think mine actually saved my marriage.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 03/09/2019 11:27

@MissLadyM I had no idea about the PressReader library access - amazing! Thank you! (Why on earth doesn’t the library publicise this instead of directing you to their pathetic selection of online mags??)

MissLadyM · 03/09/2019 11:32

My pleasure! I tell everybody about Pressreader! I've just read a US newspaper, Grazia and Italian Vogue this morning. It's honestly saved me a bomb and it's good for the planet!

silenceofthemams · 03/09/2019 11:44

Another vote for the cordless Dyson.

My Phillips steam generator iron. It has sensors in the hot plate to adjust to different fabrics so you never have to turn it up/down or have it stick and melt delicate fabrics. It goes from silk to linen to lace to denim. You can even leave it on items and it won't burn them!

It also has a self decalcing system. It flashes red and you just release the chalky water from the base into a jug and its good to go again.

Atlasta · 03/09/2019 11:53

Bunk beds for DD. No more soft toys in cupboards, in drawersHmm, on the floor, chucked behind furniture- they all 'live' on the bottom bunk and dd's friends can find a space amongst them for sleepovers.Smile
A small diary to write all dates bills paid, amounts, receipt numbers and telephone numbers. I carry it everywhere in case I need it.
