Can anyone chat while I wait for an inpatient bed?

I've been struggling with my mental health and my CPN who came to see me on Tuesday is adamant that a hospital admission is going to be the best thing. I'm at home and waiting for a bed in the local MH ward which can unfortunately take days +. I've been admitted before and I really don't want to go (though accept it is probably a fair plan) but waiting is horrible. Not knowing when the phone might ring. I feel even more anxious and unsettled.

Can anyone chat while I'm waiting?

Hi OP can you do something to try and distract yourself? Such as bake, colour or read?

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 11:11

Good morning Pyjamas.

Are you worried that they'll Section you?

Are you not looking forward to the chaos?

Either way I don't blame you for being very anxious about this.

What would be the alternative to being admitted? And have you got any family support as you wait to hear when they have a bed?

Oddsocks2 · 29/08/2019 11:12

Sorry you’re not feeling so well. I hope you get your bed soon. I imagine it’s a hard wait.
Do you have friends/family nearby who can support?

The waiting must be horrible, it takes away any control you may have over the situation.
Could you perhaps take back control by packing a small bag with nice PJ's etc to give you something to focus on and be in control of?

pyjamas89 · 29/08/2019 11:16

Thank you for replying.

My attention and concentration is shot so it's hard to read or do much. I have been trying to do a jigsaw and making slow progress but it's good to have something to do with my hands.

The alternative is a mental health act assessment which I don't want to go though the trauma of and then potentially have no choice about going in to hospital. So I guess I am a bit worried about sectioning. I don't want to go but know deep down going voluntarily is better than being made to go.

My family are not local but I have some lovely friends.

What do you like? (eg animals, music, baking, sports) Let me know & I’ll try to post a video if my technical skills will allow

pyjamas89 · 29/08/2019 11:17

Thanks Bubblysqueak. I was getting in a state about what to take yesterday so a friend popped over and helped me pack a bag, so at least that is sorted.

Hey, Pyjamas the wait sometimes is the worse. I have been voluntarily admitted in the past. Do you have a favourite tv show you can watch?

pyjamas89 · 29/08/2019 11:30

Thanks oddsocks. I love cats! and gospel music. A challenge to find something combining both?

Darkriver, sorry you've had this experience. I've been watching early series of the Big Bang theory as I've watched it loads of times so it's sort of comforting.

What I really ought to do is have a shower and wash my hair (gross but I haven't washed it for at least a week.) But I think that would take a fair amount of effort and encouragement at the moment.

Even if you go voluntarily they can section you once you get there if they think it's necessary.

Are you worried that this might happen?

I would not be happy about going either, Pyjamas.

Have you got cats? Who will look after them when you're in hospital?

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 29/08/2019 11:47

I think having a shower and washing your hair would be a brilliant thing to do! Just tell yourself you'll make the effort to do that and nothing else. It only needs to be 10 minutes.

pyjamas89 · 29/08/2019 11:50

thanks nextphone. OK I'm going to try and do this. I don't think I've even brushed my hair for at least a week. I just tried to and it's completely matter. I hope with a load of conditioner I might be able to sort it out?

OP posts:
pyjamas89 · 29/08/2019 11:51

And Jemima yes I know that has happened to me before.

I have flatmates who will be able to look after me cat so luckily that's not a worry.

Some cute kittens Smile
Gilead · 29/08/2019 12:55

Sorry you’re feeling rough at the moment, but pleased you managed your hair. Do you have s hobby that you can pick up and put down at will?

Hope you’re feeling better soon. 💐

pyjamas89 · 29/08/2019 14:17

Thanks Gilead and Oddsocks

I've been playing a bit of piano, doing some of a jigsaw. It's hard to sit still much. I'm feeling very anxious. I'm fairly sure it's not going to be today now as I think my CPN would have called by now if there would be

Bagadverts · 29/08/2019 14:23

Well done with the hair.

CalvinJohn · 29/08/2019 14:30

Why don't you pack a bag so your ready. Make sure you've got plenty of things to do in it as from my experience there is very little to do.

Jamhandprints · 29/08/2019 14:30

Hi OP. Hope you're ok. Well done for packing your bag and washing your hair. How about going for a bit of a walk? Maybe to the shop for your favourite chocolate bar/sweets?

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 14:51

Hey Pyjamas - have a look at the Talking Kitty Cat videos on YouTube.

pyjamas89 · 29/08/2019 21:12

Thanks all. Found out there definitely won’t be a bed (at least not in my local unit) this side of the weekend. No idea how far into next week it could be. It’s very stressful

OP posts:
irishtwo · 29/08/2019 22:36

Hope you get a bed soon. In the mean time try your best to maintain a routine I’m sure your cpn is trying their best for you

pyjamas89 · 30/08/2019 07:09

Thanks. No doubt she is doing her best, it's just tricky I guess.
