Most boring thread ever-why do we get through so much bog roll?

We went on holiday for a week. I took two loo rolls and there were two provided in the cottage. By the end of the week we had run out. Surely 4 in a week is totally ridiculous? What happens to it? What are my family doing with it?! For full disclosure I do buy cheap paper, but I would be bankrupt within a month getting through that much Andrex. I have two dcs of 6 and 10, who both have a poo once a day. I am constipated as hell at 36weeks pregnant and dh is a regular once a day man. Do I need to start rationing it?!

Get to Aldi and buy their cheap 'double length' stuff. We use it in the shower block, lasts for ever.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/08/2019 09:18

I’m convinced mine eat the flipping stuff. I enjoy having them home for the 6 weeks but I do appreciate the loo roll lasting for considerably longer when they go back to school!

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 29/08/2019 09:19

I think someone eats this too. There is no other explanation. I will try Aldi though, Thankyou.

I've gone the other way and switched from supermarket brand to Andrex, and I think it is lasting longer. It's thicker, so you don't need so much.

SpoonBlender · 29/08/2019 09:25

Either DC girls? Perhaps one of them uses the "huge wad of paper wrapped a dozen times round her hand" technique for pee.

Rockbird · 29/08/2019 09:28

You only used four rolls in a week? We get through double that for me, DH, an 11 and a 7yo. I think they eat it.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 29/08/2019 09:30

my 8 and 12yos go through reams of the stuff.
however if the alternative is dealing with the consequences of not using enough, then I'll stick with overuse.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 29/08/2019 09:36

Yes spoon, 10 yo is a girl! I thought it was just her technique of using a yard for a small wee Grin I am pleased they use sufficient, but four a week seems mad to me.

If you solve the mystery, please let us know.

Something eats bog roll in my house, I swear.

Zaphodsotherhead · 29/08/2019 10:18

Your 10 year old hasn't started her periods and doesn't want to say/is scared, has she?

I used to use toilet roll as I couldn't afford sanitary towels and didn't know what else to do.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 29/08/2019 11:05

Oh zaphod :( that makes me sad. I do know of kids that use loo roll as they can't afford sanitary towels but no, everyone would know if this one had started her periods!
I should ask dh if he's using it appropriately too...

We use a roll a day 😨 it's my DH. He uses it after he wees as well. It really annoys me.

anothermansmother · 29/08/2019 11:13

We go through at least one roll a day, there are three of us me and dc 12 and 9. We've been going through so much more over the holidays...I have no idea how! But I'd rather go through loads of loo roll than deal with skids the consequences of lack of use.

MadisonAvenue · 29/08/2019 11:13

It’s our oldest son who uses the most here, we used far less when he was away at university. Then, a pack of 9 would easily last two weeks, now he’s home permanently and I buy a pack of 9 rolls every week.

missbattenburg · 29/08/2019 11:14

The average person uses 57 sheets per day. There are around 250 sheets per roll, though this does vary.

One roll should last one person 5 days. On average.

4 rolls lasting 4 people one week is below average. Sorry, OP Grin

MsAwesomeDragon · 29/08/2019 11:14

We went through 5 in a week's holiday, just three of us, me, DH and 9yo DD. DH uses a lot as he has some health issues which lead to more toilet trips than most people. I wee a lot as I currently have uncontrolled diabetes (getting it under control, but not quite there yet), and DD seems to think she needs to use loads of paper for everything.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 29/08/2019 12:15

Maybe I was being highly unreasonable, I thought 4 a week was far too much! 57 sheets a day?! I guess that includes nose blowing too... still not sure I use that much, but I'll have a count up.

Aliens.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

HotChocolateLover · 29/08/2019 12:25

Our three literally wrap the paper around their hands even if it’s just a wee. I know this as they often don’t flush either 🤦‍♀️ I feel like being the toilet monitor and giving out 2 pieces for a wee and 4 for a poo 😂 💩 🚽

GroggyLegs · 29/08/2019 12:28

57 sheets a day????
Nooooooooooo. I refuse to believe it, unless it's my mum.

I buy toilet rolls in bulk from a wholesaler. My mum in a house of 2 people will get through 2x 36 packs in the time it takes my family of 4 to use one. She openly states she's 'wasteful'.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 29/08/2019 12:32

I think two for a wee is acceptable, I'd allow six for a poo (maybe 8 for 6yo ds) and maybe three squares for a couple of nose blows. Even if I had ten wees and one poo in a day that's only 29? Am I possibly overthinking this?

OP posts:
rededucator · 29/08/2019 12:34

Do most men use it to wipe after a wee?

janj2301 · 29/08/2019 12:35

Only two of us, we average 2 rolls in three days. Took 4 spare on holiday for a week, came back with one whole roll and two halves

TheCanyon · 29/08/2019 12:44

We've used almost 5 rolls since monday morning.

Just had a 16 pack delivered, wonder how long it will last.

PegHughes · 29/08/2019 12:53

It’s our oldest son who uses the most here, we used far less when he was away at university.

DS2 in our case, but exactly the same. He's been back since the end of June - toilet roll use has doubled.
