Watching Reading highlights this evening and so perplexed by what is popular.
Standouts

Aitch: babyfaced teenager who’s entire discography is misogynistic and not actually any good. Literally everything is about bottoms.

Billie Eilish: not offensive but it’s so anodyne. Who are the people going mad for this?!

Anymore for any more?!

It's all shite nowadays. Rock is dead.
"Mumble rap" is becoming a bonafide genre.

Ie GUCCIGANGGUCCIGANGGUCCIGANG ad nauseum

Watch Eminems diss of it 😂.

Miss 80' / 90's rock !!

silenceofthemams · 26/08/2019 20:04

George Ezra. I had to go with a friend to see him when her husband bailed on his ticket.

The stadium was packed, people of all ages going crazy. I just didn't get it at all.

OUwhatnext · 26/08/2019 20:05

I was at Leeds and didn't go to see either of those. Foo Fighters were fantastic so was Post Malone, Becky Hill and 21 Pilots. The 1975 were boring. Heard some great music this weekend and some shite too Grin

lastqueenofscotland · 26/08/2019 20:06

I mean I listen to punk and all the shows tend to be about 150/200 people tops all going fucking insane. So perhaps a bit of an extreme but what’s popular at the moment baffles me.
At least Eminem was clever and the indie craze in about 2007/8 was kitch and fun.

Lewis Capaldi. Everyone will hate me now!

grincheux · 26/08/2019 20:08

Ellie Goulding, snore.

lastqueenofscotland · 26/08/2019 20:09

I think Ellie Goulding sounds like she has a blocked nose

SarahBeeney · 26/08/2019 20:09

Florence and the Machine. Utter shite! She's so shouty.

Paloma Faith ditto

Dido YAWN

Mrsjayy · 26/08/2019 20:10

Billie Ellish but I dont think an end of 40s woman is her demographic

Kpop is bloody sinister and really corrupt.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 26/08/2019 20:12

Rap seems to have come back into fashion? Confused And I'm sure there's a collaboration between Ed Sheeran and a rap guy? Ffs

grincheux · 26/08/2019 20:14

Ah yes @SarahBeeney, Florence! One of the few bands that will actually make me turn off the radio.

helpmeiamatoad · 26/08/2019 20:14

I hate music these days! Take me back to when the only ‘music’ was birdsong and the occasional tuba’

Nonstopbuttmachine · 26/08/2019 20:14

I love Becky Hill though Bear

lastqueenofscotland · 26/08/2019 20:15

Ed Sheehan (who is fucking dreadful) has done a collab with Stormzy (who I actually like esp his attitude to mental health, Grenfell and his mum) and also with Aitch. Who is terrible

cosytoaster · 26/08/2019 20:15

Ed Sheeran. Nice but dull.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 26/08/2019 20:16

@OUwhatnext

I would have picked to see all them too Smile maybe not Post Malone but i shall check out his live performance then!

I actually love 21 Pilots and find them pretty unique as they cross several genres

CollaterlieSistersSister · 26/08/2019 20:16

Ah @OUwhatnext were twenty one pilots decent then? Rather fond of them but never seen them live.

Fudgenugget · 26/08/2019 20:19

Billie Eilish and Lewis Capaldi. Lewis is a lovely young man but his music is so pedestrian. Ed Sheeran is rubbish. What is he, a folk singer, pop singer or rapper? Don't get him at all.

We love Florence in our house

OhMsBeliever · 26/08/2019 20:20

I wish I'd got tickets to Reading to see Twenty One Pilots, I saw them in March and they were amazing and I'm completely obsessed with them now.

I've only heard one Billie Eilish song, Bad Guy, and it was all weird whispering not singing. It put me off listening to any more of her stuff.

Not keen on Ed Sheeran. But I do like George Ezra, his songs are quite cheery and singalongable, and he seems really sweet.

OUwhatnext · 26/08/2019 20:20

I was really surprised in a good way with Post Malone, I wasn't a fan before I saw him but I am now.

He jumped on stage with 21 Pilots too and played guitar with them which was quite funny.

I enjoyed 21 Pilots, didn't know much about them before but they sounded good and the drummer was hot and topless so that wasn't terrible either Wink

Ginormarse · 26/08/2019 20:21

The 1975. Specifically the lead singer who is full of himself. His monologue about how he kissed a boy in Dubai and how he disagrees with the countries laws and ethics re homosexuality. I bet the band got paid handsomely to play there! Perhaps not playing in Dubai in the first place would have more meaning if they wanted to make a statement
Their music is also shit (that's just my opinion as the crowd however seemed to absolutely love them). I am clearly far too old and cynical!

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/08/2019 20:22

Ed bloody Sheeran.
I'm desperate for Lewis Capaldi tickets though so each to their own and all that Grin

lastqueenofscotland · 26/08/2019 20:23

I agree RE the 1975. Pretentious twaddle.

OP posts:
WonkyDonkey9 · 26/08/2019 20:23

Have to agree with Ed and The 1975

Lindormilk · 26/08/2019 20:23

Anything that resembles something that would give you a headache. Rave, trance, shit like that and you need to be off your face to understand it.

And anything in a festival in the recent years.

Bring back S.A.W pop factory!!
