Watching Reading highlights this evening and so perplexed by what is popular.
Standouts

Aitch: babyfaced teenager who’s entire discography is misogynistic and not actually any good. Literally everything is about bottoms.

Billie Eilish: not offensive but it’s so anodyne. Who are the people going mad for this?!

Anymore for any more?!

Paloma Faith just reeks of desperation. She is touted as some big star but I have yet to meet anyone who likes Paloma Faith.

OUwhatnext · 26/08/2019 20:24

Ginormarse - totally agree re 1975. They were putting negative reviews about themselves on the big screen, being ironic (is that the word? 6 hours sleep in a tent since Friday so my brain isn't working) but I was nodding along in agreement. So dull and zero stage presence.

tierraJ · 26/08/2019 20:25

A lot (not all) of Grime... maybe it's unfair to say it brings to mind gang warfare, drug crime, stabbings & shootings, depressing shit like that.

Certain indie bands - boring copies of 90s bands, heard it all before

managedmis · 26/08/2019 20:25

Radiohead
Coldplay
Muse

SarahBeeney · 26/08/2019 20:25

I forgot about Ellie Goulding. It's like she's doing an impression of a 3 year old.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 26/08/2019 20:26

Billie Eilish: not offensive but it’s so anodyne. Who are the people going mad for this?!

Every girl I know between the age of 9 and 13 loves her.

tierraJ · 26/08/2019 20:27

Lindormilk I love trance! Tiesto is the best.

OUwhatnext · 26/08/2019 20:28

Ahem, I like Paloma Faith, mainly the Architect album.

Also loved Florence, saw her live in December.

I just love gigs and live music if the performer is giving it their all it's usually good. Some of the best sets I've seen are bands I wasn't that keen on seeing!

Mrsjayy · 26/08/2019 20:30

I don't understand Ed sheeran either some of his songs are good but I don't get his stylr

tierraJ · 26/08/2019 20:30

I liked Changing by Sigma featuring Paloma Faith - the lyrics really meant something to me

mamaoffourdc · 26/08/2019 20:39

Whatttttttt I've seen Ed twice live, Coldplay etc it a fan on CD, radio but live! Wow incredible shows

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 26/08/2019 20:49

I love Lewis Capaldi. But i dont love his singing 😂. He comes across so lovely and he is hilarious i would see him in stand up.
But droney sad love songs are not my thing. Like the male version of Adele in some ways IMHO.

Sparklingbrook · 26/08/2019 20:51

Foo Fighters seem to be a lot of shouting so I don't get them at all.

I love Ellie Goulding and don't get the hate.

Ed Sheeran - meh.

YouWillShoutAtMeNow · 26/08/2019 20:54

Kasbian. Drive me up the wall. Yuck.

Violetparis · 26/08/2019 20:56

Take That - bland
Adele - voice like a foghorn
Florence and the Machine - another voice like a foghorn

YouWillShoutAtMeNow · 26/08/2019 20:56

And I don't understand the love for Ed Sheeran at all.

JemimaTab · 26/08/2019 21:02

Another one for Ed Sheehan. I just don’t get it at all, it’s so bland to me. (And he also did that execrable “Galway Girl” thing which makes me cringe.)

Iwantacampervan · 26/08/2019 21:05

OUwhatnext my two are really annoyed that they didn't book Reading Saturday tickets early enough (their fault!) , they went on Friday but the Saturday tickets had sold out. They wanted to see 21 Pilots and Post Malone as they have seen both before (21 Pilots several times). They heard a few of 1975's set on Friday and weren't very impressed.
Lewis Capaldi was performing at Victorious in Portsmouth on Saturday - mixed reports from friends who were there.

lastqueenofscotland · 26/08/2019 21:19

Lewis capaldi is hilarious and I really like his attitude and how he comes across. Music is drab though

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 26/08/2019 21:28

He proper cracks me up, and if I get tickets it'll be his home gig, so massively on form

Belgravian · 26/08/2019 21:34

Cheryl Tweedy.

Out of tune and can’t dance.

Mrsjayy · 27/08/2019 08:31

Yes Lewis Capaldi is like boy Adele. He seems a nice lad though and probably what his school teacher would say he is full of character

ShatnersWig · 27/08/2019 08:54

All of them. I got old before my time. I'm 45 and have never been to a gig in my life. I've never liked one artist or group sufficiently. I've never bought a standard album of any artist. I have a couple of "greatest hits" ones - Genesis, ELO and Elton John - but I only like some of the songs on them. Bizarrely, I was really into music during the 80 but still didn't have any special attachments, just liked the songs I liked and bought a LOT of compilation albums!
