Muslim boy name opinions please

We were almost set on the name Zain. But nearly everyone we mentioned it to has reacted negatively. The most common response 'what like Zayn Malik from One Direction?.' Whilst I know it's not anyone else's business it's bothered me.
We are trying to think of Muslim boy names so would really appreciate any recommendations? Our family is of mixed heritage so would like a name that's easy to pronounce and possibly works in both cultures.
Up to now the only names we both like are Zain and possibly Harris. Which do MNs prefer? TIA

Yusuf
Mohommad
Hasan?

I'm not Muslim so I'm not sure I'm qualified to have an opinion, but why not use Harris and Zain?

sue51 · 18/08/2019 16:15

Zain is nice, how about Yousef.

Hoppinggreen · 18/08/2019 16:16

I know a Harris, a Farris, also an Esaa, a Zayaan, Isam, Zaran and a Zuran . All of which I quite like

I know a Muslim family, two boys Zayn and Zeph.

Dowser · 18/08/2019 16:24

Our friend fareed gets Fridi which is nice and easy to pronounce
Almost sounds like Freddy

RainOrSun · 18/08/2019 16:28

I like Zaid, which as a variation on Zain.
Prefer both to Harris, but all are good names.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/08/2019 16:29

Which cultures/countries should it reflect? Where is the surname from?

georgialondon · 18/08/2019 16:30

My favourite is Adam

Knitwit99 · 18/08/2019 16:30

A couple of years from now no-one will remember Zayn Malik so I wouldn't let that put you off

Hihellohi · 18/08/2019 16:32

Zain/zayn is a lovely name. Firstly who care what others say - if you like the name then you like the name and secondly - nobody will know who Zayn Malik is 20 years down the line. Yes he may have made more people aware of that name it doesn’t mean you’re naming your child after him.
Go for it.

Peony99 · 18/08/2019 16:36

This is exactly my dilemma. Here's my current list - not all are strictly Muslim, but all could work (so I'm told...)

Adam
Zachariah
Samir
Laith
Xavier
Raif
Raphael

Gabriel
Benyamin
Zaid
Hari

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/08/2019 16:39

Can you go ‘classical’? My family names are pretty much very classic pre-Islamic names from the country of origin.

TonTonMacoute · 18/08/2019 16:40

Well, people only say that because Zayn Malik is just about the only famous Zain there is at the moment.

If you really like it, I would stick with it. Friends will just come to associate it with your DS, and not give a though to ZM.

OneForTheRoadThen · 18/08/2019 16:42

There is a little boy in my son's nursery class called Zayan. This could be a compromise?

roseapothecary · 18/08/2019 16:42

I have a son called Zain and so love the name! I've had one person mention Zayn from one direction but that's it. I think when you have a child with the name then the child is what your friends and family will associate with it.
Several of my older DSs friends though have mentioned someone from ninjago called Zain, Zayn Malik isn't very well known by young children.

roseapothecary · 18/08/2019 16:43

Other Muslim boy names I like are Sami/ Samir and Faris.

Number3or4 · 18/08/2019 16:45

Adam
Idris

Mabelface · 18/08/2019 16:46

A lad I know in work is called mohammed but calls himself Nafees, when means precious or valuable.

raviolig · 18/08/2019 16:52

Zaid
Faisal
Hashem
Ilyas
Adam
Ali
Hamzeh
Omar

Flower777 · 18/08/2019 16:57

I really like Zain.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 18/08/2019 16:58

I work in a school, the most popular/common Muslim boy names are: Abdulaziz, Ismail, Ali, Taha (unsure of spelling here, it’s one I hear not see), Suhayl, and Adam.

Mumski45 · 18/08/2019 16:59

Love the name Zain

How about Yasin?

Gaelforce · 18/08/2019 17:00

My friends have boys called:
Ebrahim

Eyad
Arou

Hani
Jamal

Mumski45 · 18/08/2019 17:01

If you are looking for a name which crosses cultures what about Aydan.
