The preparation my oldest is putting into this reminds me of me when I was younger & getting ready to go out (I wasn't so young though).

There's glitter, stick on false nails & stressing over which outfit to wear Grin.

Enjoy the furries. Pride isn’t what it used to be.

Abbafabba · 16/08/2019 19:04

Bit of a waste of time nowadays I think

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 16/08/2019 19:05

Don't forget the lead so you can walk a pup

NoBaggyPants · 16/08/2019 19:11

Ours was a few weeks ago, great day despite the rain. Hope the weather improves for you!

TopBitchoftheWitches · 16/08/2019 19:13

Don't expect the lesbians to be allowed to
Join.

Bezalelle · 16/08/2019 19:18

Good luck with that, OP. Pride is grim these days. A total men's fetish parade. They've totally thrown lesbians (and all women) under the bus in favour of short-sighted wokeness at best and genuine misogyny at worst.

Dowser · 16/08/2019 19:19

Thought it was all over in June

Newbie1981 · 17/08/2019 06:12

You miserable bastards! ENJOY OP X

RadishesAndLentils · 17/08/2019 06:26

Have fun! Where are you?

It was Pride in Surrey last weekend. Our first Pride! I was a volunteer so working there all weekend. I volunteered as soon as I heard about it because I was so excited that boring old Woking was getting its own Pride!

It was a fantastic day with not too much rain and the turnout was amazing. And, yes, LOADS of groups of teenagers looking utterly fabulous.

I was litter picking for three hours on Sunday afterwards. And not only was there a lot less litter than you'd expect from that many people but I was amused that apart of the inevitable fag butts, most of the litter was also rather bright and glittery. Evidently a lot of people lost brightly coloured false nails and feathers in the course of the day. 😊

Oh and we had Michael Rice, Eurovision loser, as our headline stage act. Beat that!

TheBigBallOfOil · 17/08/2019 06:29

Why does glitter and false nails have to be part of it? Isn’t that a bit of an, er, stereotype?

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 17/08/2019 06:41

What do you mean by miserable bastards @Newbie1981

Newbie1981 · 17/08/2019 06:50

@Myfoolishboatisleaning I thought it was rather clear. The people who can't just say have a nice time and have to go into one about how crap it is and the politics of it. Yawn

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 17/08/2019 06:55

But it’s not untrue is it?

AloneLonelyLoner · 17/08/2019 07:09

I dunno. I went to Pride marches for years. Way before I had kids. Now, I have a daughter who is a lesbian and it has been so upsetting for her, the shit surrounding TERFs and the mistreatment of lesbians and women as a whole that I can't in good faith support it. It makes me (and many women) incredibly sad and angry. Yes. I guess I'm a TERF.

But it’s an inherently political event isn’t it newbie? That’s it’s origin. If you don’t like the politics of it, makes sense not to go.
Personally I don’t get this glitter and boas shit. For the gay people I know, there’s no overlap between being gay and drag.

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2019 07:27

Like the men in dog suits playing with small children while visibly aroused?

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2019 07:29

And the fact thay lesbians aren't welcome qs its now all about the men

TheBigBallOfOil · 17/08/2019 07:29

I’m not sure any event which effectively excludes women who are sane sex attracted can claim to be diverse! Talk about tosh peddling! Gosh how silly.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 17/08/2019 07:30

What tosh avocados?

TheBigBallOfOil · 17/08/2019 07:32

Sane sex attracted. That’s a great Freudian slip.
I imagine the meaning is clear.

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2019 07:38

Yes what a typo. You of course meant sane gender. Sex is obsolete :o

HollysTeflonSeptum · 17/08/2019 07:39

boring old Woking

Grin

Sorry.

TheBigBallOfOil · 17/08/2019 07:47

Why does glitter make Woking more interesting? Pretty low level entertainment surely

Sn0tnose · 17/08/2019 09:19

don't believe the tosh peddled by TERFs.

Yeah, that’s a brilliant response Avocados. When you can’t come up with a decent response to the concerns of women, just call them Terfs. That’ll shut them up. Well done you!
