A new Lidl has opened in town. Going this afternoon. Never been to one before. I am buying for me (vegetarian), two small DC (not vegetarian) and Mother, who is a Sainsburys shopper, supermarket snob age most disgruntled that a Lidl has opened in town Grin

So what can you recommend?

Chocolate, Greek yoghurt, jarred red peppers and wine.

katienana · 15/08/2019 10:24

Fruit king squeeze yoghurt. Gelatelli mini magnum style ice creams. All the bakery stuff! Fresh pizzas, sandwich meat.

mnahmnah · 15/08/2019 10:27

Yes i’ve heard about the bakery. Fresh pizzas too?! Fab. Neither of those in Aldi!

Anything from their divine bakery! My favourites are the croissants and pan au chocolat!

chocolatespiders · 15/08/2019 10:33

Cashew nuts and mixed nuts. 4 pack greek yogs with strawberry - 99p.

crustycrab · 15/08/2019 10:36

Aldi do fresh pizzas

crustycrab · 15/08/2019 10:37

My kids like the 29p doughnuts

cookieoclock · 15/08/2019 10:38

Their never from concentrate apple juice. Yummy!

Toodeloo · 15/08/2019 10:41

The big pack of no water added, thinly sliced ham (for the kids...), best ham ever!

All fresh meat and veg - quality so much better in ours than in the other supermarkets.

Most of their yogurts are lovely, too. Especially the Greek whipped corner ones.
I could go on and on. Get all my food from Lidl

Toodeloo · 15/08/2019 10:42

I forgot! The lasagne!! So good the cafes here locally use it to sell!

inmyfeelings · 15/08/2019 10:44

Pretzels

Macarena1990 · 15/08/2019 10:45

Cleaning stuff is really good, as is the washing powder. Their version of nespresso pods are great and their fresh pizzas.

I'd avoid the fruit/veg - never lasts 5 minutes and the ready packaged rolls, bread etc are really doughy.

mnahmnah · 15/08/2019 10:47

Definitely lots of these i’ll be getting! Thanks

Greek yoghurt, the mayo, the sweet chilli sauce, nappies, dishwasher tablets, cheese, fresh bread, cakes.

movingontosomethingnew · 15/08/2019 10:49

I prefer the meat from here, lasts longer than Aldi

mrspotatohed · 15/08/2019 10:54

The goats cheese pesto and tomato focaccia from the bakery 🤤🤤🤤

Boots20 · 15/08/2019 10:55

Their smoked salmon with the little packet of dill sauce omgggggg

Deathraystare · 15/08/2019 15:45

Pretty cheap parmesan (had to think how to spell it - never wondered that before!!). Also their smoked salmon (and last week their smoked trout). The marg and butter normally cheap, ditto cheese.

I get the very cheap chocolate bars (30p) but these are very cheap tasting. However if I do not have much money and need a cheer up, they are great!

The bakery section is always busy and seems well stocked (love the cheese topped rolls and the crusty rolls). The yogurts.

Their own washing tablets (the squishy kind). bags of walnets etc.

They do some freedom from food too

If you are ok with gluten foods then the pasta is very cheap. I like that there is some wholemeal bread for 50p!

I'd agree. I think the dairy is excellent, and the confectionary and the continental Bonne Maman style jam. DH doesn't rate the coffee.

ProfessorofPerspective · 15/08/2019 15:53

Baking stuff is limited but what there is is very good. Agree about the nuts - excellent quality and great value.

IAskTooManyQuestions · 15/08/2019 15:55

I dont understand these threads at all, as if Lidl is some strange alien being that has landed. It sells exactly what Sainsbury sells, only cheaper.

You never see a OMG Asda/Tesco/Sainbury has opened. Hmm

The fruit and veg in my opinion, lasts a lot longer than mainstream super markets.

grafittiartist · 15/08/2019 16:00

Surprisingly, the tinned tomatoes and their own oven chips are really good.

MrsWombat · 15/08/2019 16:01

The custard tarts.

kayakingmum · 15/08/2019 16:04

Their cherry and chocolate chewy bars.
