Do you feel uncomfortable in some shops?

Killing time yesterday with DS and we were wandering through some car dealerships. Ford, Volkswagen, briefly in the BMW garage (they were all next to each other).

But we didn't go in the Jaguar one. It seemed off putting and not the kind of place to casually stroll through looking at the cars and making comments...about the price. I think we would have been really out of place.

I was thinking about that scene from Pretty Women.."All that commission".

Do you ever feel out of place or uncomfortable in some shops and just don't go in?

Karen Millen. Every time I go in, I am followed!

Yes, I too never go in Karen Millan. Never felt so uncomfortable in my life.

I hate Superdry because the shop lighting is so dark and the vibe is über cool. I feel very out of place.

@Milicentbystander72 i still go in, just ask if there is an issue as to why i am being followed!! The girls who work there are like 12 so they back off quickly!!!

I feel uncomfortable in smaller stores where I am the only customer. I can feel their eyes burning through my soul.

Hollister... I can't see a think, pitch black, has over enthusiastic staff, strong perfumed smells..

Dread the day my son wants anything out of it. Am too old 😂

Same with department stores with entire ground floor dedicated to perfume and make-up and no safe route through to the escalators or stairs at the back. So you have to dodge the dozens of orange-faced perfume sprayers before you can get to the escalators. "No thank you, no thank you, no thank you, no thank you".

It is like It's a Knockout but with fake tan.

I can't be trusted in china shops (or even departments).

My fear of knocking stuff over turns me into a jelly legged simpleton who can't walk in a straight line or keep a bag steady.

Market stalls – the posher ones where they have their artisan products out. You can't easily browse as you're watched so closely, and if you taste something you feel obliged to buy.

Also, any shops where the prices are not displayed. How do I know if I want it if I don't know how much it costs?

I always get followed by security in Boots. Doesn’t matter which branch I go into, nearly always happens. I probably look more suspicious now because I’m waiting for it to happen so it’s become a vicious circle!

The only time I was ever followed was back in the 80s when I rode my moped into the city and forgot that I was wearing my old ripped coat (moped coat).
So I must have looked like a shoplifter when I browsed in C&A

I feel nervous in china/glass ware departments. Always worry I'll knock something over.

I always have to steel myself to go to the market in Milan, so loud!

We had the opposite experience recently in our local BMW dealership.. it was lovely for the first half an hour as no one approached us and we had a really good look around.

Then the time came to actually speak to someone and there was no one to be found! Lots of staff in, but working in a glass fronted office. We didn't feel like we could barge in there so had to hover awkwardly until someone came past with a cup of tea and packet of biscuits who clearly had other places to be

Lush - I want to walk around sniffing and testing things but the staff won’t leave you alone.

Jo Malone - feel like an imposter even though I’d only ever go in to buy a gift. I realise this is my issue not theirs.

Accessorize! Ours is quite small but the second you step in they ask if they can help you. Then you go to browse and they come back two minutes later saying “ oh yes that’s gorgeous “. I feel sorry for them being made to do that

Agree re posh market stalls...I’d probably spend a fortune if I could relax.

I don't like stores that have people jumping on you the moment you walk in, can I help.

I prefer to feel unseen and browse in peace. Then if I happen to make contact a... Please let me know if you need help, is good.

Or when you walk into a pub and you want to 'look' to see if it's somewhere you would like to drop coin and spend the next few hours, and again you're pounced on and put under pressure. So instead of looking in peace and deciding you just have to leave.

Ted baker. Young trying to be hip staff who eye you up and try to make conversation with you about how nice the pieces are. You want to tell them to fuck right off. How many times a day do rhey say "that's beautiful isn't it" And you can see it's insincere and they just want to get back to talking to each other,

Terrible shopping experience.

Have never had a problem with Ted Baker or Karen Millen but I do have a resting bitch face so maybe I put them off!

Any shop where I get hassled I tend to avoid. I had a huge problem with Fossil on Oxford st for a while so I wrote to head office and complained as I had just stopped going in because of it. It’s been great ever since.

I work for jaguar come in! The coffee is usually v good and we aren't scary

Hollister. It's blatantly obvious that I am never going to buy anything for myself, but the staff seem attracted to me like a magnet. Perhaps they think I'm going to shoplifting rather than just spend ridiculous amounts of money on someone else.

I went to Poland alone and was in a jewellery shop with loads of cabinets along the walls. Every time I took a couple of steps to look in the next cabinet the sales woman did too. So obviously as well, I think she thought she was being dead discrete.
