Really nice MIL

I have a really nice MIL. Really lovely. She is supportive and kind, never questions my judgement, offers to have the kids but would never demand it. I see lots of stories on here about mother in laws and find it rather sad to see how many of them are seemingly awful, so I thought I'd see if I could bring some positivity to MN and recognise the nice, normal MILs we never usually hear about.

Does anyone else have a lovely mother in law, or is it just me?

My MIL is nice enough just not my kind of person (too loud and awkward and a bit embarrassing) but she is very thoughtful and kind too.

Saucery · 12/08/2019 20:10

Mine is brilliant and I love her to bits. I want to be the same sort of MIL one day Grin

Windygate · 12/08/2019 20:13

I have a lovely MIL. She was widowed very young and left with multiple young DC. My DH, however, wasn't so luck and has been left with a very difficult MIL.

My mother in law is great

CassianAndor · 12/08/2019 20:18

Yes, my MIL is lovely, and a brilliant grandma as well.

Newmumma83 · 12/08/2019 20:19

I like mine, non intrusive ... kind person ( feeds me husband and our kid when we visit! Adores my son ( her grandchild) raised a wonderful man! Nothing to not like x

CassianAndor · 12/08/2019 20:19

And actually, now I remember it, ex-MIL was also really nice.

iklboo · 12/08/2019 20:20

I love my MIL. She's very protective of her DILs and will call her sons out on dickish behaviour. Doesn't interfere, generous and kind. Brilliant nana, friend & neighbour. Definitely someone I can talk to about my worries and health (much more so than my mum).

ValerianV · 12/08/2019 20:21

My MIL is lovely too. She has never had the kids and has only been in our house twice in 10yrs I think, all the family always go to her, no-one has a problem with it.

I love spending time with her.

Mammyloveswine · 12/08/2019 20:22

I love my MIL! She's lovely!

LlamaofDrama · 12/08/2019 20:23

Mine is lovely. She loves me, adores DD and DH, is careful not to overstep boundaries, is kind and thoughtful and always remembers and is interested in what is going on in our lives. I'm very lucky.

DH put her straight about his priorities once, before we were married. Never been needed again. I always read about the horrendous MILs on here and think how lucky I am.

TowelNumber42 · 12/08/2019 20:26

Mine is lovely. Proper second wave feminist who raised her sons right. Thanks MIL. Sadly very near the end now. I will be nearly as heartbroken as DH.

Poor old DH got an awful MIL.

neverornow · 12/08/2019 20:27

No, but I am happy for you all and I aspire to be a nice MIL myself one dayThanks
I'm glad the nice ones are getting a mention for a change!

We are very different people and have very little in common. But she is an excellent mother and a brilliant grandmother, and that’s what’s important. Her main relationships in my family are with dp and the dcs, not with me.

ShippingNews · 12/08/2019 20:32

I had a lovely one. She was widowed with a lot of children ( DH was the eldest of 9). She was just right - friendly, non intrusive, always happy for a chat but never gave advice. My children were the same age as her youngest so they all got along well. I had it made, really.

limesoda · 12/08/2019 20:33

Mine is ace too, despite us being quite different people.

Rachelover40 · 12/08/2019 20:44

Mine was a very nice lady.

SeaViewBliss · 12/08/2019 20:48

Mine has always been lovely. She’s 90 now and it’s really sad to see her getting so frail and see her memory rapidly failing. She is so aware of getting old and hates it.

She’s still as lovely as ever and is always telling her DS how lucky he was to marry me Grin

Rainbowknickers · 12/08/2019 20:50

My mil is the best!
Supportive loving and so calm (which I need!)
She’d do anything for us and we all worship her
We live about 4 hours away so I keep nagging for her (and fil) to come live with us!xxx

ItProtectsMyHead · 12/08/2019 20:53

My MIL literally came with me and held my hand during fertility treatment for the few appointments DH couldn't attend due to work commitments. She's pretty lovely.

HemlockStarglimmer · 12/08/2019 20:54

I have a lovely one.

PerfectPeony2 · 12/08/2019 20:55

I do have some difficulties with mine but honestly, some of the horror stories on here makes me appreciate her a whole lot more.

ALittleBitAlexis · 12/08/2019 20:57

Mine is lovely, and we have a lot in common - I feel pretty lucky!

follygirl · 12/08/2019 20:59

Mine is a narcissist and a complete b**ch, wish I had a nice one

ElPontifico · 12/08/2019 21:04

Mine is fabulous and cooks us delicious food.
