What do I do regarding lost earphones?

Ok so I have a prime suspect but no evidence. My Apple earphones have gone missing. The last place they were seen were on the coffee table about 2 days ago.

DS (16) just bought himself a pair of AirPods and had given them to me so is ruled out. He actually asked me where the ear plugs were which is what prompted the hunt.

DSD (15) was seen using a pair of white ear plugs and when we phoned her to ask where the Apple ones were ‘had she picked them up by mistake?’ she immediately said they were by the mirror in our room. Only the white ones there were a Samsung pair. How did she even know the Samsung pair were there?

DSS (9) Never seen him using ear plugs at all.

I’m almost certain DSD has got them. Probably accidentally and is now too embarrassed to say anything but I just want them back 🤦‍♀️ DS is upset because his gift is missing.

Not sure what to do. Any ideas? Can’t do much without proof.

Wait until DSD nexts visits and see if they reappear? If she did pick them up by accident, it gives her the chance to return them with minimal fuss.

In the meantime, they will probably will be found in a random location 😁

DS is upset because his gift is missing

Really? A 16 year old boy is upset because he got airpods, and let his mum use his old cast offs (which even brand new only cost about £15) and now she's lost them? Really?

HeyMonkey · 12/08/2019 14:36

Buy a pair on ebay, they're only £10.

bagpiss · 12/08/2019 15:31

I read that as the airpods (Apple, are quite expensive) were lent to mum and then they'd gone missing only to find a cheap pair in its place and dsd is suspected of switching. I've never seen apple airpods for around £15 !

HotChocolateLover · 12/08/2019 15:33

@kjhkj Would you not be upset if something you had given (regardless of cost) had possibly been taken? At this stage i’m Still saying possibly but i’m not convinced that you wouldn’t be bothered in the slightest if someone took a gift you had given.

@bagpiss DS has bought the AirPods using his first wage packet. He gave me his old ear plugs as he didn’t need them.

HotChocolateLover · 12/08/2019 15:37

@HeyMonkey I didn’t realise I could get them so cheap. However, tbh my worry now relates to the future and whether I can leave other items lying around in my home. IF my suspicions are correct (nothing whatsoever has been said to her yet apart from asking if she mistakenly picked them up) then I won’t feel safe leaving my stuff in my own home.

Ask SD when she next visits. I find it hard to believe your son is upset as has new ones. Id have probably suggested my son give the old ones to his step sister rather than me anyway if she didn't have any.

ChicCroissant · 12/08/2019 15:39

Did your DSD use the white Samsung ones and leave them on your mirror?

Seems really strange that you think it's her. Although your later comments also indicate that you really don't like her. Like MN bingo, really!

MonChatEstMagnifique · 12/08/2019 15:42

I won’t feel safe leaving my stuff in my own home.

Why? You said earlier that if she has them, she probably took them by mistake. Why would that mean she would start taking other things?

mollyblack · 12/08/2019 15:43

You can track them and make them play a loud noise from your phone. My ds did this when he lost his at school.

CruellaFeinberg · 12/08/2019 15:46

You wont get actual airpods for £10 they'll be knockoffs

HotChocolateLover · 12/08/2019 15:57

@mollyblack Lol, love it! I’ll have to play some sad ‘grown up’ music.

HotChocolateLover · 12/08/2019 16:01

@ChicCroissant It’s a bit of a leap to suggest that I don’t like her when i’ve Stated that I don’t have any evidence, no accusations have been made but here is what I do know. Otherwise all my thread would consist of would be ‘my earplugs are missing’ 🤦‍♀️

mollyblack · 12/08/2019 16:05

I'm not joking it plays a loud alert so you can find them when they are lost, if you look on your phone you'll be able to locate where they are.

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 16:12

Buy a pair on ebay, they're only £10.

Don't buy a pair on eBay. Nobody sells apple EarPods for £10 Confused

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 16:13

You can track them and make them play a loud noise from your phone.

EarPods don't do this.

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 16:14

I'm not joking it plays a loud alert so you can find them when they are lost,

You may not be joking but you are mistaken. EarPods don't do this.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/08/2019 16:20

OP do you mean the wired earphones? You don't mean actual AirPods have gone missing do you?

If I had a pound for the number of earphones and chargers that disappear in my house (and I'm not great at hanging onto them either tbh Blush) I would be richer than Bill Gates (I know he's not Apple Wink)

I know it's annoying and I know people should own up, but I don't think all the "my suspicions" and " I don't feel safe leaving things in my own home" are proportionate.

OrangeJustice · 12/08/2019 16:23

Read the post properly folks - it’s standard earphones that have gone missing not AirPods.

BlueCornsihPixie · 12/08/2019 16:23

I think it's a bit ridiculous to say you don't feel safe leaving stuff in the house

All headphones look the same, they are also really easy to lose. Either she picked yours up by mistake, or you have misplaced them. Presumably if she has an apple phone she has white headphones so I'm not sure why her using white headphones means anything tbh.

Your suspisions were she picked them up by accident, and are based on fuck all tbh. I also think your DS is being ridiculous to be upset you ha e lost his rejected headphones.

BlueCornsihPixie · 12/08/2019 16:25

Yeah not Airpods, just bog standard white wired headphones have gone missing.

ElizaPancakes · 12/08/2019 16:39

I think you’re probably right but your post about ‘not feeling safe’ leaving your own stuff in your house is completely disproportionate.

Just ask DSD to keep and eye out with her stuff and bring them back if she finds them, they’ll probably appear next time she’s over. If not, then buy some more. Yes I wouldn’t want to either but I also wouldn’t want to push the point as you don’t know that they were actually taken.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/08/2019 16:46

Otherwise all my thread would consist of would be ‘my earplugs are missing’

That is the entire meaningful content of your thread:

Buy some more.

Start drinking decaf.

HotChocolateLover · 12/08/2019 17:00

@BlueCornsihPixie I appreciate your comments but don’t call my DS ridiculous for being upset. That’s rather hurtful.
