What do I do regarding lost earphones?

Ok so I have a prime suspect but no evidence. My Apple earphones have gone missing. The last place they were seen were on the coffee table about 2 days ago.

DS (16) just bought himself a pair of AirPods and had given them to me so is ruled out. He actually asked me where the ear plugs were which is what prompted the hunt.

DSD (15) was seen using a pair of white ear plugs and when we phoned her to ask where the Apple ones were ‘had she picked them up by mistake?’ she immediately said they were by the mirror in our room. Only the white ones there were a Samsung pair. How did she even know the Samsung pair were there?

DSS (9) Never seen him using ear plugs at all.

I’m almost certain DSD has got them. Probably accidentally and is now too embarrassed to say anything but I just want them back 🤦‍♀️ DS is upset because his gift is missing.

Not sure what to do. Any ideas? Can’t do much without proof.

Hi op

I found this app for you. You can download it after they are lost.

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 17:07

THEY ARE NOT AIRPODS.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/08/2019 17:08

don’t call my DS ridiculous for being upset. That’s rather hurtful.

Eh?

I think it's a bit ridiculous to say you don't feel safe leaving stuff in the house

You said the comment about not feeling safe. Blue didn't mention your son. If you were not a regular poster, I would swear you were on a wind up.

beatriceprior · 12/08/2019 17:10

@bouncingraindrops

It was the reference to ear plugs made me think they were.
We just call the ones with wires head phones

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 17:10

So many people seems to be having problems understanding simple information in this threads.

Blue did indeed say the DS was ridiculous. Which of course he is.

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 17:11

Head phones are those huge things that go on your head.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/08/2019 17:23

Sorry, you are right, I'm being as bad as the people who can't read the OP.

In the kids defense, when you grow up with over anxious parents it does tend to rub off.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/08/2019 18:01

For clarity, I believe this is what OP is missing (correct me if I'm wrong!)

I think they may have run off to Gretna Green with my 10ft charger cable which has mysteriously disappeared from my bedroom Hmm All DC and cats are currently denying any knowledge. The fluffiest cat is looking suspiciously guilty though

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/08/2019 18:01

Fuck sake.

Sorry.

What do I do regarding lost earphones?
Fontofnoknowledge · 12/08/2019 18:07

I'm with you OP . I think those who don't understand this don't live in a blended family. !

My DD bought me a beautiful channel lipstick for my birthday.. two days later it has vanished yet DSD appeared to be wearing the same shade !! (What 15 yr old wants to wear lipstick that a 50 yr old favours ??)

I don't want to call her on this because I want to give her the opportunity to replace it .. without a fuss. I don't particularly like it BUT it's precious because DD bought it for me with her very first pay packet.

But then again it's MN so resident children's feelings matter far less than step children.. No doubt there are deep psychological reasons all related to her dad leaving her mum . !!

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 18:10

I think those who don't understand this don't live in a blended family.

Yes, because understanding missing earphones is so complicated Hmm

BlueSkiesLies · 12/08/2019 18:12

Yeah not Airpods, just bog standard white wired headphones have gone missing.

Op you are making a RIGHT mountain out of a mole hill.

They cost like, fuck all. Just get ya self some new ones.

Pumperthepumper · 12/08/2019 18:16

If it’s the new headphones with the square plug-in bit rather than the bog-standard round one, they’re £29 and the knockoffs don’t work. I know that because I lost mine and my phone rejected non-apple ones.

fedup21 · 12/08/2019 18:21

Did SD have a pair of Apple earphones? If she didn’t but now has, won’t that be pretty obvious?!

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 12/08/2019 18:21

@Fontofnoknowledge

But it’s hardly a brand new expensive birthday present. I’d fully understand a child being upset if that had been taken. It’s a pair of headphones that he didn’t need anymore so gave to his mum.

Fontofnoknowledge · 12/08/2019 18:33

Keepthebloodynoisedown

The COST is irrelevant !! It's the fact that he gave his mum a gift !

BlueSkiesLies · 12/08/2019 18:34

And why would DSD take lightning connector ear phones if she has a Samsung? Since apparently she left Beijing some Samsung ear phones in their place.

Odds on the OP lost them.

BlueSkiesLies · 12/08/2019 18:34

And if they are lightning once - why didn’t the OP already have some since they come with apple phones?

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 18:37

The COST is irrelevant !! It's the fact that he gave his mum a gift !

It wasn't a gift though, it was 'here I don't need these anymore'

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 18:38

OP didn't say they were lightening

AgentProvocateur · 12/08/2019 18:41

I’ve got some Apple earphones in my handbag. I’ve no idea how they got there and they’re not mine. And they don’t seem to belong to anyone else in the house either.

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 18:42

@AgentProvocateur

That's the mystery solved. YOU have them Grin

BlueSkiesLies · 12/08/2019 18:46

OP didn't say they were lightening

Then if they weren’t lightning they really do cost about £1.49 and there’s no need for anyone to steel them.

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 18:58

Then if they weren’t lightning they really do cost about £1.49 and there’s no need for anyone to steel them.

They maybe weren't lightening, but they were apple. It makes a difference. I wouldn't be happy to use £1.49 earphones because someone had taken my apple ones.

Fontofnoknowledge · 12/08/2019 19:03

BlueSkiesLies .. and why would a child 'borrow' a lipstick that didn't suit her, was way too old for her
AND something she had never previously worn... ? Dsc .. who knows how they work (and yes, before you all kick off, I was a step child too !)
