Circumcision Advice

My little one is due to be circumcised next week, does anyone have any good hints or tips for keeping him comfortable after?

OP posts:
sleepwhenimred · 02/08/2019 22:59

There is a predisposition in my DHs family to have a condition that involves needing circumcision. DH done as a teenager. We still did not consider it for our children. It's an awful thing to have done and is detrimental to sex despite what people may say.

Anyway hope it goes ok for your son but I really would reconsider it if not necessary.

BillywigSting · 02/08/2019 23:04

Have you actually spoken to a paediatric urologist? If you have what did they recommend?

If they recommend it then it's a wholly different matter and you have my sympathy.

If not then I think you're absolutely bonkers to even consider it.

FagashJackie · 02/08/2019 23:10

It is not an extreme reaction. I hope you have the full support of the surgical team to help your son through this. I would take a wait and see approach personally.

We had three different opinions, two said it would be best to do it, the other one said it was a judgement call. I was reluctant to do it because I worry about hurting him, but it seems the safest thing to do rather than risk future complications.

Crikey OP why don’t you let him make the decision when he is older if he has a problem.

Bylamplight · 02/08/2019 23:22

Panalash - these are all discussions that have been had. We’ve decided it’s in his best interests to have the operation now. I was just hoping for some tips is all. Honestly, we haven’t just randomly decided he should have an operation for aesthetic reasons

This thread has really ruined my day.

I am the mother of a toddler that may need a medical circumcision - this thread has been awful. None of you calling “medical reasons only” have changed anyone from wanting cultural circumcisions because random online opinions are trumped by ingrained culture.

All you’ve done is succeeded in making worried, hesitant, stressed out mums’ that need now or later circumcise their babies, feel worse.

Skittlenommer · 02/08/2019 23:33

Mutilating someone else’s body when they’re is no medical grounds is abhorrent. Your son can’t consent to this so why the hell are you considering it!! It’s up there with female genital mutilation!

Perhaps you should read up on that lad who killed himself because his circumcision ruined his life.

^In the email to his mother, Alex explained, in great detail, the physical problems he had suffered afterwards. He described experiencing constant stimulation from the head of his penis, which was no longer protected by his foreskin.

"These ever-present stimulated sensations from clothing friction are torture within themselves; they have not subsided/normalised from years of exposure," he wrote.

"Imagine what would happen to an eyeball if the eyelid was amputated?"^

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 02/08/2019 23:38

@Mummoomoocow I broke my untreatable MN rule by clicking on this thread (I don't know why I did read it tbh) so just sending you some support. My DS had a circumcision for medical reasons, it was the right medical decision for him after having a stretching procedure which didn't work. It is exceptionally hard to then read posts like the one below yours. I'm going to hide the thread now and I suggest you do the same.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 02/08/2019 23:39

If your child needs it for medical reasons then none for the comments about non medical circumcision apply do they? Confused

Winderwoman · 02/08/2019 23:39

My son had it done at 7 for medical reasons, it was very painful for him afterwards. Took about three weeks to heal. It was really difficult at the time but worthwhile as he doesn’t constantly have infections anymore.

Mummoomoocow · 02/08/2019 23:45

@JoxerGoesToStuttgart I don’t care about those comments, I care about the ones telling me what a terrible life he will have thanks to the same procedure, the same removal of skin, the same lack of protection to his penis, the same effect on his sex life, the same threat of amputation ffs.

bluegirlgreen · 02/08/2019 23:46

Good grief. I have never seen such OTT reactions on here EVER.

Anyone would think the OP was slicing her son's foreskin off with a blunt razor blade! You do know the OP is on about MALE circumcision right? Not female (which IS mutilation!)

Comments like 'Why would you mutilate your baby?' 'This is child cruelty!' 'You are disgusting,' (and similar comments) are ridiculous.

Multiple 100s of millions of people have their sons circumcised, mostly for religious reasons, but sometimes just social reasons. THREE QUARTERS of American men are circumcised. It's not that big a deal !! Really!

Funny how some people are OK with people circumcising their sons when it's for 'religious reasons,' but if it's NOT for 'religious reasons' they are accused of mutilating their baby, or 'taking his life choices away,' and 'child cruelty!' Hmm What utter rot!

In addition, there are many benefits to circumcision (for men,) and they outweigh the risks. My DH (who I've been with over a quarter century,) is circumcised, and the man I was with for 3 years before I met DH was too. Previous partners had a foreskin, so I never knew different, but after having men who are circumcised, I would never go back.

@Bylamplight

Don't pay any attention to the hysterical responses and histrionics on here. Go ahead with your son's circumcision. He will thank you for it one day. So will the partner he will eventually be with.

Same message to the posters who have had their sons circumcised.

Don't pay any attention to the histrionics on this thread. You have done nothing wrong, and have done your son(s) no harm!

Mummoomoocow · 02/08/2019 23:47

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett I appreciate this, thank you.

bluegirlgreen · 02/08/2019 23:57

@mummoomoocow

I can assure you it does NOT have a negative affect on the man's sex life. Grin

And comparing a man's nob to an eyeball! (as someone did upthread!) Just when I thought I'd seen it all! They are not even REMOTELY the same. Daft! Wink

Celebelly · 02/08/2019 23:58

Don't come to MN if you want support for inflicting unnecessary (ie. for anything other than actual medical reasons) and painful procedures on a tiny baby.

And as for someone being grateful their partner was circumcised.. Eh? HmmWeird.

bluegirlgreen · 03/08/2019 00:01

Obviously don't have a circumcised partner then @Celebelly ?

If you did, you would never want to go back! Grin

Mummoomoocow · 03/08/2019 00:01

@Celebelly I am not the OP and the OP needs it done for medical reasons. Your posts linking to bbc articles about circumcision ruining lives was not helpful for either of us.

bluegirlgreen · 03/08/2019 00:02

As I said, ridiculous, OTT responses to something that 100s of MILLIONS of babies have had done.

Get a grip, seriously. Wink

Heratnumber7 · 03/08/2019 00:04

My DH is also circumcised. It doesn't seem to have negatively affected him in any way.

Celebelly · 03/08/2019 00:05

I've had circumcised partners in the past and have to say I found it v weird and not overly pleasant. I accept that's personal preference, however.

And if you can't handle reading about the effects circumcision can have then maybe there's a lesson in that somewhere... Everyone has been very clear on this thread that medical reasons are an acceptable reason, so I'm not sure why, if your child had legitimate medical reasons, you're taking it all so personally.

Mummoomoocow · 03/08/2019 00:06

@bluegirlgreen your loveliness has been noticed! Grin

Mummoomoocow · 03/08/2019 00:10

@Celebelly because I care about the awful repercussions that may come to my baby regardless of why he may end up circumcised. I don’t care about the comments saying doing it for religious reasons is unethical and mutilation etc. I care about your posts for example, which link to articles detailing men who have committed suicide for having their medically necessary circumcisions.

bluegirlgreen · 03/08/2019 00:10

@Mummoomoocow

Grin
GrapefruitIsGross · 03/08/2019 00:10

If you did, you would never want to go back!

You realise how ridiculous you come across talking about your preference for your partner’s genitals like this?

Good luck OP- you’ve got a pasting here, but it sounds like you’ve done your research and making a tough decision based on what you think is best.
