Ffs maggots in bin 😱what can I do?!

Collection isn’t until tues. Dh hasn’t been doublebagging ones he’s put in so he’s in the doghouse. I put fly spray in yest but now coming out of the top! Would boiling water help or do I need to move house?!

We use Jeyes fluid, around and in the drains as well, flies will lay eggs inside the drain then hey presto you have a fly infestation.

Don't leave it open!!!! You could attract rats

FGS, you don't leave it open overnight or even all day long. Just a few hours in the afternoon and birds will swoop in. It's not going to attract rats. Why are some people so desperate to turn a complete non-event into a drama.

If you were telling us that you found maggots in your vagina then maybe your level of horror would be justified.

If you leave it open though, while it is open won't flies again come and lay more eggs on the smelly rubbish, therefore ensuring another batch ready to hatch? And will the birds actually come, wherever you live?

I’m in a hotter country than the UK - I had a terrible problem with maggots since the brown bin is only collected every 2 weeks and it’s in the full sun. The neighbor said leave the lid open and apart from when it rains I’ve done that and there’s not been a single maggot since. And no sign of a plague of rats or any more animals than we normally have.

So OP you can choose to listen to someone who’s on the other side of the maggot problem or you can use bleach, tape your bin shut and wait till bin day where it’ll be so horrific you won’t want to touch it
