Fly Pie (Eccles cakes)
Cow Biscuits
Cow Pie (beef stew and dumplings)
Noodle Doodles
Popover (fried cheese sandwich)

Sparrows Arse = asparagus in our family.

I'm not sure who started it, could've been DS1 when he was 2, or my lovely but bonkers MIL Grin

Isatis · 06/08/2019 10:33

Tree for broccoli.

formerbabe · 06/08/2019 10:35

Cocoons...

My dcs word for croissants ever since they saw the picture of the cocoon in The Hungry Caterpillar book and thought it was the same thing!

timeforawine · 06/08/2019 10:36

Poppadoms are poppinpoms according to my 2yr old.

formerbabe · 06/08/2019 10:43

Cow biscuits - malted milk

They are horse biscuits in our house ever since my ds mistook the cow for a horse! He came home from nursery and told me that he'd had a biscuit with a horse on it Grin took me a while to work out what he meant!

Clarabellawilliamson · 06/08/2019 10:50

Hard boiled eggs are 'eat it like that' eggs because DD was trying to explain eating one like an apple..

Saisong · 06/08/2019 10:57

Ha! so we are not the only household who eat cow biscuits and squashed fly biscuits. We also have pig biscuits (fig rolls).

My shopping list requires translation to the uninitiated:
Normality (regular tea)
Blue tea (decaff)
Noigs (onions - childhood mispronunciation)
Loot (squash - childhood again, from diluting juice)
Loomi (halloumi)
50/50 (half and half rolls)
Cucs (cucumber)

I'm sure there are lots more, I think growing up my family mostly spoke some kind of pigeon English!

LikeTheFruit · 06/08/2019 12:42

We call salmon "Vincent" which somehow evolved from Vincent Salmone but I've not idea where that came from. Quite normal for me to tell DH we're having Vincent for tea

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 06/08/2019 12:50

Struzzi for tomato pasta sauce - comes from a Richard Pryor routine about the mafia (would take way too long to explain)

HippyChickMama · 06/08/2019 13:10

Sketti on the naise - what ds called spaghetti bolognese as a toddler, I always think it sounds like a rural area.

Boodles - dd's word for noodles

Dh and I used to listen to Mark and Lard on Radio 1 and their pet names for food have stuck, especially "brod" and "cheed"

JellyMouldJnr · 06/08/2019 13:12

We always call profiteroles 'coffee trollls' after I misnamed them as a child

00100001 · 06/08/2019 14:21

Burnt bread (toast)
Morridge (porridge)
nudies (noodles)
Happy Fruit PIe (apple pie)
slamslam (Salami)
Helllooo Meeeeee (Halloumi)
Sizzle (Cereal)
Gutlumber ( generic junk food)
Teddy Bears (pears...)

From my STB 5 year old...

No chocolate rice crispies - rice crispies
Chocolate rice crispies - cocoa puffs
Circles - cheerios
Squares - shreddies
Cheese butter - philadelphia
wiggly worms - spaghetti

Generally his descriptions make sense when you know what he means.

Zaphodsotherhead · 06/08/2019 16:29

Axe Eem was how my children pronounced ice cream, and I still tend to call it that, even though they are now in their twenties!

shas19 · 06/08/2019 16:42

I couldn't say lucazade when I was little so I called it unca-luca, it's still stuck😂
My son calls spaghetti bolognese 'sketti bolla Hayes'

frippit · 06/08/2019 16:50

My granddaughters (age 1 to 4) say topa for toast, bumato for tomato, slingerbrella for cinderella, egg sauce for mayonnaise, will think of some more.

Stravapalava · 06/08/2019 20:36

Booferies are blueberries!

user1486131602 · 06/08/2019 20:46

Dead flies biscuits. Garabaldi
Worms. Chow mein
Burp Lasagne ( think Garfield)
Curry jam. Mango chutney
Turkey jam. Cranberry sauce
Bejinegar. Vinegar

managedmis · 06/08/2019 20:51

Coffee tops = cough toffees

Cannyhandleit · 06/08/2019 20:53

Quasimodo, apparently I found that easier to pronounce than croissants as a child 🤷‍♀️

HazelBite · 06/08/2019 20:55

Mud and Worms = Spaghetti Bolognese

cricketmum84 · 06/08/2019 20:59

Onions are nungies. Onion rings are nungy rings!
DH and DD both call asparagus as-par-gwah

southernbelles · 06/08/2019 20:59

@fourquenelles I LOVE messy bridge dinner!

Weetabix is bliblix in our house, as that's what toddler DS calls it Smile and biscuits are bitchards, same reason Grin there's more but I can't remember them at the moment!

DingleyDells · 06/08/2019 21:02

We drink decapitated coffee in the evenings.
