Phobias - what's yours?

Just wondered if anyone has any unusual phobias?

Mine is glitter, can't stand it anywhere near me so buying birthday cards isn't easy and I have to wear latex gloves to open my birthday and Christmas cards.

I also hate the m word (m*t) and if you don't know what I'm on about it's often used to describe a cake that isn't dry.

This is my first post so you could say I'm a virgin but only on here so be kind if I cock this up Smile

I can't do spiral stairs up dark towers, clock towers and the like. I also hate being high up with a void on one side like in big shops with giant several storey high atriums. So I guess I'm scared of heights but in specific circumstances.

Ellabella989 · 02/08/2019 15:33

Hate the feel of velvet and cotton wool (things like the feel of tampons make me feel sick too).
More common phobias I have are spiders, flying and not overly keen on heights

SandunesAndRainclouds · 02/08/2019 15:33

Fish Envy

bernietaupinspen · 02/08/2019 15:34

Wet wood gives me the absolute fear. People eating ice lollies and licking the stick 😷

YouJustDoYou · 02/08/2019 15:35

Trypophobia. Fear of holes.

Ellabella989 · 02/08/2019 15:38

@youjustdoyou apparently the fear of holes is fairly common - would you mind saying why as I’m fascinated by phobias.

SeaViewBliss · 02/08/2019 15:41

Rats - nasty bastards

helpmee · 02/08/2019 15:45

i have Trypophobia BAD. Its usually a combination or a particular pattern of holes or dots that trigger something in your mind. Some holes and patterns are fine but some cause me to FREAK out, i get sweaty and panicky and genuinely makes me have to puke. We had new chairs at work and there were holes in the cushioning and i had to quit the job as my boss said i were being stupid and refused to get different ones. But i couldn't face coming into work and seeing the chairs. Even the word holes makes me feel so queasy.
Sounds so silly doesnt it lol Grin

Wasps. my DP has just told me he can't deal with another summer of me running like mad whenever one comes near me. How do I get over this.

I don't actually know if he's being serious or not

YouJustDoYou · 02/08/2019 15:46

My apologies for it being fair common, i wasnt aware. Why I have trypophobia? I have no idea why! I first noticed when I was very small and the sight of an empty plant seed pod thing at a garden centre, it's like, a horrible recoil feeling. Can't look at it, my fingertips itch.

allymcn · 02/08/2019 15:46

The screaming probably does help either

PivotPivotPivottt · 02/08/2019 15:47

Also trypophobia. I didn't realise it was a thing until a few years ago when I read about it online. I always just thought I was weird and never told anyone about it. My earliest memory of it is when I was In primary 1 and a boy had holes in the soles of his shoe I remember telling someone it made me want to faint. Just typing this is making me itchy.

My 7 year old also seems to have it, I don't remember ever telling her about me having it so can't even say she's copying me. I was putting spotty tights on my toddler one day and eldest asked me not to because the imprints they leave in toddler's skin make her feel sick. There's a few other things she's said that make me think she has it.

Not phobias as such but things I'm scared of/give me the heeby jeebies -

Snakes
Worms
Slugs
Fish
Planes and flying but I also have a fascination with planes and plane crashes Blush

TattiePants · 02/08/2019 15:47

I'm with you there SeaView, I can't even look at a picture of them in a book or watch one on TV. The one that actually affects me is vomiting, mainly other people vomiting. At some point I will have to try and address this / get some help.

PivotPivotPivottt · 02/08/2019 15:48

Scratching reading that helpmee

helpmee · 02/08/2019 16:00

@PivotPivotPivottt awful isnt it!!

Isthisafreename · 02/08/2019 16:07

Lactophobia - milk.

I'm shuddering even writing the word.

AbbyNormal · 02/08/2019 16:09

I don't know if there's a word for it but deep ocean scares me. I can't look at photos without shivering. Same goes for pictures of space. I think it's the unknown that creeps me out.

I also hate balloons popping.

EyeDrops · 02/08/2019 16:24

Buttons. Uuurghh. They make me feel ill, and if I touch one by accident I get all scratchy as I can feel where I touched it for ages. Ugh!!

BillThePony · 02/08/2019 16:28

Spiders
Holes (mainly food related holes)
Moving walk ways (they make me dizzy)

My worse though is claustrophobia, I am going to try cbt as it's so bad it does affect my day to day life unlike the other 3.

I can't sit in my small office with the door shut and can't bear rooms with too many people in as I panic.

Decormad38 · 02/08/2019 17:11

Brexit

MrsIronfoundersson · 02/08/2019 17:13

Moths and butterflies for me ... can't stand them.

MangoSpice · 02/08/2019 17:18

Wasps. Absolutely terrified of them.

Thankfully my part of the world doesn't see too many of them!

hussandchips56 · 02/08/2019 17:19

Anything that flaps, birds, moths, butterflies, dragon flues and as for bats 😰

origamiunicorn · 02/08/2019 17:21

I have trypophobia as well, but a weird version. I don't mind holes in no organic material but any patterns of indents and holes in organic material gives me the feeling that I want to stamp on it and get rid of it as well as a morbid fascination, it's hard to describe. Someone on the internet had photoshopped a lotus flower pod on to a breast and I wanted to vomit, stare at it and claw at it at the same time Envy
