On my bum I went. Ankle buggered

So I was walking down my Mum's drive in flip flops and it didn't end well....
Thankfully ankle is not broken but my lorrrrrrd it bloody hurts!! Even Liquid Morphine isn't quite cutting it. I've broken an ankle in the past and it wasn't this painful! Swollen to the size of a fist and due to my pre-existing health issues, I cannot use the crutches.

Any tips for pain relief/increasing movement please? Stuck on my Mum's sofa (she has a bungalow - I was offered a bed but sofa seems to be more comfortable foot-wise, oddly enough).

As a single Mum, I need to be back up & running ASAP!

Have got it elevated of course and have tried several forms of Ice/ice packs/frozen peas/wet towels which have been in freezer for 20 mins, Naproxen (with Omeprazole of course to any HCPs reading this), Oramorph and even my Buprenorphine transdermal Patches don't seem to be helping much with the pain. It's so bad I can't even sleep for more than 5 mins at a time. The pain is even in the tips of my toes and behind my heel 😖

I've managed to get it into my boot brace thing which I had leftover from when I broke my ankle. It's helping but nowhere near enough for me to sleep :(

Am I missing something please? Will try (almost) anything!!

Thanks Brew

Ouch - I can't think what else to suggest but wish you a speedy recovery Flowers

mundaneflounder · 02/08/2019 06:18

How do you know it isn't broken? Have you been to a&e?

Lonecatwithkitten · 02/08/2019 06:30

As @mundaneflounder has said have you been to A&E to confirm it is definitely not broken.

I was impressed with A&E. Straight in & out within 20 minutes. Add on 10 mins for wheelchair up to Physio Dept for Crutches of course. Even though I don't have the strength to use them. They insisted I take them anyway for when I'm able to at least partially weight bare on that foot again which is wise I guess.

So so soooooo tired 😴

Poor you! Sympathy!
I feel down the stairs many weeks ago. Oh my coccyx! Oh the pain. Better, but still not right now.

HappyLoneParentDay · 02/08/2019 10:38

@Oblomov19 Oooooh that must've been scary! Yeah I've had pain in my Coccyx for a few months now and it's awful, I can't imagine an injury to it! Ouch!
I bet you went through tubes & tubes of Voltarol?! X Gin

Have you tried Deep Freeze? It's a pain killing gel which cools and numbs the area. I find it quite effective for my woes when needed!

FlibbertyGiblets · 02/08/2019 11:03

I think I would ask mum very nicely if we could all move in temporarily just so the child/ren can be watched. Just for a few days. Is there room for you all?

Damntheman · 02/08/2019 11:19

Are you elevating it above your heart? because most people I know think elevating it means having it up on a stool. You have to have it above your heart which, for a foot injury, means you're pretty much going to have to lie down and have the foot up on the back of the sofa.

I saw these on real housewife's when one of the woman knackered her ankle and thought what a fab idea.

You can rent a knee scooter like the one shown by not

My mother broke her ankle last year and wasn’t strong enough to use crutches so we rented her one of these. It was a real godsend for her.

yikesanotherbooboo · 02/08/2019 11:50

I twisted my ankle badly 7 weeks ago. I managed to get a shoe on for the first time 2 weeks ago and it still occasionally wakes me. It isn't broken, I have done my exercises and it is gradually more flexible and less swollen and tender. The nurse in A&E told me that it would be at least 8 weeks and although I can walk well now it is far from 'better' .it has been a surprisingly nasty injury .

HappyLoneParentDay · 02/08/2019 17:40

@notapizzaeater Would LOVE one of those! Way out of my price range though! X

Your local Red Cross might be able to lend you one of those knee scooter jobbies.

HappyLoneParentDay · 02/08/2019 17:45

@SwearyG Thanks. Wish I could afford to do that. Comes to £60 with delivery. Min 2 weeks hire. I appreciate you showing me though!! Will save that page x Brew

@spiderlight Oh wow! That would be amazing, Thankyou for that.
Currently hobbling around in a boot brace which has been a godsend! X Brew

I sprained my ankle the summer before last and I think it was a good 6/8 weeks before I felt even vaguely able to walk properly on it. The pain was OK after a week though - Naproxen really helped, and ice packs. Sadly the only treatment is keeping off it and letting it heal..............

FadedRed · 02/08/2019 17:48

Tens machine might help with the pain.

HappyLoneParentDay · 02/08/2019 17:49

Currently managing to walk around with this on
