With God as my witness; I'll never buy an electrical appliance from Ikea again

The oven is shit, the microwave crap and the fridge/freezer is destined for Hell.

The rest of kitchen is lovely and the gas hob is fine.

What's wrong with the oven? I was thinking of buying one.

Gruzinkerbell1 · 01/08/2019 21:39

Following. We’ve been eying up a full IKEA kitchen

Youngandfree · 01/08/2019 21:41

That’s crazy! All of our appliances in our last kitchen were from ikea and I couldn’t fault them! We had them 8 years and they were fab!!not one fault!!

imalrightjack · 01/08/2019 21:43

We have an ikea kitchen and it's shit. Previous owners put it in just before putting house on the market.

The oven takes forever to heat up.

The original dishwasher broke after 2 years (no warranty as it was the cheapest one they did). We upgraded the next one which broke after 3 months. Repaired under warranty but I'm waiting for it to go again....

The laminate on the worktops is lifting.

The wall cupboards are bowing.

Don't bother. Spend more and get better quality.

lostinthoughts · 01/08/2019 21:44

Never buy a clock from ikea either. They break before you get it home. Every. Single. Time

FrogFairy · 01/08/2019 21:45

Oh no, I have set my heart on the Underverk extractor as it is the only one I can find that is A rated for grease extraction.

rosinavera · 01/08/2019 21:45

Following too because I was thinking of buying one with appliances!! :-(

MoltoAgitato · 01/08/2019 21:48

We bought our entire kitchen from IKEA, but put in our own appliances. Except for the dishwasher, because at the time you couldn’t get aftermarket dishwashers to fit with the door mounting kit. The IKEA dishwasher broke 4 times in less than 18 months. By the time we replaced it, there was an aftermarket door kit, and we’ve replaced it with a Siemens.

The kitchen itself is utterly brilliant, but I totally agree - I wouldn’t use their appliances.

MoltoAgitato · 01/08/2019 21:50

To be fair to IkEa, their customer service has been great whenever we had to phone about the warranty.

RowingMermaid · 01/08/2019 21:52

I have the old faktum IKEA kitchen installed 6 years ago. I have their integrated extractor and it is used almost daily and still going strong.

In fact the entire kitchen still looks brand new but our appliances weren't from ikea they are whirlpool though as the whirlpool ones ikea were selling at the time weren't to our taste.

Oven is still the original but we did replace the combi microwave due to the part we needed being unavailable. Parts are kept for 6 years only.

BentNeckLady · 01/08/2019 21:56

Ours was great and I really liked our oven. You are right that the fridge is dreadful though.

Hepzibar · 01/08/2019 22:08

I forgot the dishwasher - that's fine tbf. So 1 out of 4.

The oven, as others have said, takes forever to heat up and takes even longer to cook, it's impossible to follow any cooking instructions, as I have to double the time with some food. Cooking a roast takes forever.

Lost count of the times I've had to defrost the freezer, tonight was the last straw! Getting some ice out, couldn't close the door, ended up scrapping ice off the inside for the umpteenth time in last 18 months.

Microwave is just poor.

The cupboards and work tops are great and it looks lovely.

My whole kitchen is Ikea and I love it. Great electric double oven, large induction job, dishwasher, washing machine, extractor, fridge freezer.

Pinkyponkcustard · 01/08/2019 22:27

I love my Ikea kitchen, the only appliances we got to be fair were the microwave and oven, went for mid range and they have been grand.

cardibach · 01/08/2019 22:28

Really? I worked in a school a couple of years ago where they bought a job lot - one for each classroom. All of them worked for as long as I was in the school (another year at least).

krustykittens · 01/08/2019 22:51

A friend of mine went out for a walk with her family one day, came home to find all the wall units had fallen off and her kitchen looked like a war zone. They were bloody lucky no one was in the kitchen at the time.

Trickyteens · 01/08/2019 22:59

Ikea kitchens are fab, solid and well made.

My Ikea fridge freezer has been fine so far, got it a year ago.

Decormad38 · 02/08/2019 05:19

I never understand why people buy all the appliances with the IKEA kitchens. There are companies like ao that are more efficient and cheaper plus much better range.

HappyLoneParentDay · 02/08/2019 05:48

Oh no.... My Mum has just had a whole Bodrum kitchen from IKEA with two appliances. She really can't afford for it to go wrong :(

@imalrightjack No warranty? That's illegal every item you buy from a retailer (besides consumables of course) has to have some kind of warranty, even handbags

Ferfeckssake · 02/08/2019 05:56

@Hepzibar The freezer situation sounds like it is a thermostat problem. Check the manual to see if you have a guide.

If not , if it is under warranty. it should be easy to fix.

Apolloanddaphne · 02/08/2019 06:09

Surely the units falling off the wall is not the fault of the actual units but whoever hung them?

BentNeckLady · 02/08/2019 10:08

A friend of mine went out for a walk with her family one day, came home to find all the wall units had fallen off and her kitchen looked like a war zone. They were bloody lucky no one was in the kitchen at the time.

That sounds like a kitchen fitter problem rather than a kitchen problem tbf.

HappyLoneParentDay · 02/08/2019 10:31

@krustykittens Well clearly it wasn't installed properly!! Nothing to do with IKEA!
