Do children still wear vests?

Not in this weather but in winter. My DGCa are pre-schoolers and just wear polo shirt then sweatshirt for school or a tee shirt and sweater out of school. I’m of the age where I was trussed up in a liberty bodice AND a vest under my school shirt. I’ve seen vests in the shops but are they still a ‘thing’?

Mine do but they're Italian. Italians love vests. My DH wears one tucked into his pants for 10 months of the year! 🤣

Frith2013 · 01/08/2019 15:38

Not in this house.

MyOtherProfile · 01/08/2019 15:39

Not generally. They don't tend to need them. Either they're inside with central heating so in t shirts or a jumper, or they're outside and wearing coats and jumpers.

As a Year One teacher, yes they do! (Sometimes when it’s really hot outside Confused)

MyDcAreMarvel · 01/08/2019 15:40

Yes my kids do up to about age 9.

tappitytaptap · 01/08/2019 15:41

No my 3 year old doesn't, not since he stopped wearing a bodysuit, which was maybe around age 2? My mum always asks if he should wear a vest Grin. He wears t shirts under jumpers/hoodies/long sleeved tops if needed in winter.

FookMeFookYou · 01/08/2019 15:45

Mine do in the winter because they are tall skinny lil buggers and need the extra layer Grin

Notmydalek · 01/08/2019 15:45

I pity little ones who are vested up in hot weather. Bet you get a lot of beetroot faced, sweaty little pupils Vashta 🥵

Mine never did much to mils horror!!

timeforakinderworld · 01/08/2019 15:47

Actually a cotton vest can make you feel cooler.

Notmydalek · 01/08/2019 15:47

Tappity I’m always wondering if DGC have enough layers on in winter. Maybe it’s a grandma worry

My 3 year old will be wearing vests in winter. Think I stopped when they got into year one/two with my eldest.

TheMonaOgg · 01/08/2019 15:48

Mine do but I'm a bit of a vest lover too and wear one pretty much three seasons of the year.

Picklypickles · 01/08/2019 15:49

My daughter doesn't because she's always hot, her little brother gets cold fairly easily so he often wears one on cold days.

Pointlessquestions · 01/08/2019 15:50

Mine do! Stops scratchy badges itching on school polo shirts and he's only little so keeps him warm. I only put them on in winter though

Teddybear45 · 01/08/2019 15:52

T-shirt vests yes. It helps them stay warm and keeps the uniform cleaner for longer.

PamelaTodd · 01/08/2019 15:53

Mine stopped in the last couple of years despite my best efforts, so not from age 7 or 8. I wear one though.

horseymum · 01/08/2019 15:54

School is far too hot for vests! Most people have their heating on too high as well. Maybe if you have a cold house? I've always found t-shirt/ jumper is plenty.

MrsPear · 01/08/2019 15:58

Mine do - it adds an extra layer. In summer it’s usually vest and pants instead of pjs. I wear the equivalent too. But then again we don’t have heating set to tropical. I thought I read somewhere that thin layers are better than one thick one?

MrsPear · 01/08/2019 15:59

Oh and h is a builder and he wears long johns and a vest as undergarments.

Inside or out? Inside usually everyone is warm and outside usually people have outer layers.

bellsbuss · 01/08/2019 16:00

Mine didn't after they stopped wearing the ones with poppers but if they stayed at my mums during the winter they would always come back wearing one as she would buy them to keep at hers. In her mind all children should wear a vest and I remember wearing one until I got my first bra age 10.

CreatedBySombra · 01/08/2019 16:01

Yes. My youngest is still in them (but not in this heat) and my eldest only stopped wearing them in year 5 when she switched over to crop tops because they were less childish and wasn't happy being bare chested.

To be honest my husband wears vests and it was how I was raised so never gave a second thought to whether it was the done thing or not.

Youngandfree · 01/08/2019 16:01

Mine wear vests and they are 4 and 6 (I shudder when I think of them not wearing a vest). Except if it’s the height of summer obviously. Vests are a must in my house 🙈

WaitingForAGovernment · 01/08/2019 16:01

Mine are older primary and don’t usually, but have a couple of thermal vests (t-shirt style, one with short sleeves and one with long sleeves and matching long johns) each for long days out in the cold with Cubs or on an outdoorsy school trip.
