Do children still wear vests?

Not in this weather but in winter. My DGCa are pre-schoolers and just wear polo shirt then sweatshirt for school or a tee shirt and sweater out of school. I’m of the age where I was trussed up in a liberty bodice AND a vest under my school shirt. I’ve seen vests in the shops but are they still a ‘thing’?

That last sentence should be....

She then sheds layers as she warms up whilst I try and jog on the spot to stop hyperthermia setting in!

Lucked · 01/08/2019 20:43

Yes and DH gets really twitchy about stopping in the summer, he would put one on unless I explicitly said not to, they were coming out of school dripping with sweat and I had to tell the kids to Stop him if he tried it.

My DC wear vests. Turkish people love them too not just Italians Grin

My 6 year old hates the stitching irritating his skin and wears a vest instead of pyjamas in summer.

Yes, everyday in winter.

pleasestoprainingplease · 01/08/2019 20:52

My two wear vests too. Even though it's warm in school he takes his jumper off, but he gets too embarrassed when changing for PE to not wear a vest too because of his eczema over his tummy.

I've also heard that a cotton vest in summer helps to cool you down. In the winter they always feel toasty when I get them undressed. Plus they are so soft & not scratchy or stiff against the skin.

EdtheBear · 01/08/2019 20:59

Op have you felt the heat outside?

DS1 ditched vests when he was about 4. DS2 hasn't been wearing them because of the heat. He probably will when we are back into the colder weather.

Modem central heating, coats and jackets are warmer and more wind proof than in the past.

Check with the parents before you waste money and the far the resources.

SalrycLuxx · 01/08/2019 21:01

Mine do

mogtheexcellent · 01/08/2019 21:05

Mine does over the winter. So say late October to March. She just going into year 1.

Our house is fucking freezing though.

KipperTheFrog · 01/08/2019 21:09

Mine do in the winter but not in the summer.

EdtheBear · 01/08/2019 21:13

The earths resources- stupid autocorrect

TheBrilloPad · 01/08/2019 21:16

My primary aged kids do on PE days only, because then they are less "naked" when getting changed. They have mentioned "Mum! You forgot to put a vest on me!" on PE days before, which makes me assume most kids wear them too, but who knows.

On weekends and stuff - pretty much never.

EveryoneButSam · 01/08/2019 21:48

Presumably if the children's parents thought they needed a vest they would already be wearing one.

millespadpuddy · 01/08/2019 22:04

Yes,we all wear vests. The girls right up until they needed bra's.I still tend to tuck the vest in for my 9yr old son!😱

Stravapalava · 01/08/2019 22:11

Mine do in the winter / when it's cold. So do I!

ditheringdorothy · 01/08/2019 22:16

Yes, in most seasons except mid summer! Tall, skinny DC here with a mama who still loves her own vests in winter Grin

WouldYouLikeAnOmlette · 01/08/2019 22:32

Yes my 4 year old does in winter. I'm always the last parent with them on in the spring and suddenly get caught out with a sweaty child. Used as PJ tops in the summer often.

Herja · 01/08/2019 22:40

My house only gets above 13 degrees in winter if elderly relatives are visiting. Everyone wears a vest in my house, then a few tops, a jumper and a dressing gown... Even the cat would probably like one, instead he makes do with my lap, under a blanket. The kids do get too hot in other people's houses though, perhaps vests were more important when heating was less prevalent? I never had heating growing up, I always wore a LOT of layers.

LeonoraFlorence · 01/08/2019 22:41

Mine do!

MinecraftMother · 01/08/2019 22:42

My girl is such a grandma's girl - my Irish mother has passed on her love for the vestie to my 8yo.

But sometimes the outfits don't do well with a vestie so she leaves it off. Only very occasionally though.

And no cami/string tops. We're talking proper vests...

MrTumblePulledAKnifeOnMe · 01/08/2019 22:48

Mine doesn't, he can try away with a just a tshirt in winter and s thin jacket, sweaty bugger that he is. However, I have switched from PJ's to vest and shorts in this heat, which he seems much more comfortable in at nights.

Piehunter · 01/08/2019 22:53

DSS does. He's nearly 6, he likes them- he has cool character ones... He is very chesty and constantly has a cough 8 months out of 12 and has eczema too so less irritation from school clothes. He's also skinny and has rubbish temperature regulation. He wears one under pj's in winter too because he kicks the duvet off!!

VashtaNerada · 01/08/2019 23:30

I pity little ones who are vested up in hot weather. Bet you get a lot of beetroot faced, sweaty little pupils Vashta 🥵
Yes but I send them to the toilets to remove a layer! I suspect it’s cold at home so parents wrap them up warm but it soon becomes too much for them.

tabuladubia · 01/08/2019 23:37

My older ones (now teenagers) used to but my younger ones are too hot even in winter. I used to love having them snugly dressed.

twistyturnycurlywhirly · 01/08/2019 23:38

Yes, but not if they're wearing a t shirt and jumper. Only if they're wearing a single layer long sleeved top.

Ihatesundays · 01/08/2019 23:46

My 10 year old does in the winter. I think we might be making the move into bra tops soon though.
