I've fucked up my bathroom. Help me fuck it up more?

So it needed repainting. I stupidly let my son choose the colour. He is SO proud of himself and loves it. It looks the the changing rooms of our local shit council swimming pool.

It's absolutely fucking awful

So. Do I add white blinds, wooden blinds to help soften it?

Or do I throw EVERYTHING into the fuckit bucket and get hot pink blinds and flamingo the fuck out of it?

I really like the walls, but dislike the dated tiles and wooden toilet seat.

If everything was white apart from the walls, it would look lovely.

But if you don't want to repaint, I'm assuming you also don't want to re-tile. So you need to style it out. Cerise pink, and yes, flamingos, why not? Go big and bold, and tell everyone it was DS's choice!

I like white loo seats and have one so no they are are not awful to everyone. My bathroom is so tiny and anything other than white as the main colour would make it look even smaller because there is no window so needs as much light as possible. I add a splash of colour and change accessories/towels every couple of years.

The photo in the OP looks ok to me but it as always down to personal taste. I have been in some bathrooms which to me looked awful but the owners obviously loved them.

Those sparkling or gimmiky toilet seats are not for me and a family member has an orange glitter one. She thinks it is great and I am far too polite to say anything. Her room - her style!

If you have a disco toilet you can definitely have a beach bathroom. Go for seashells and starfish etc

No to changing tiles. The whole thing is being ripped put next year anyway so I'm not doing major stuff now.

Toilet seat will be changed. White or shells. I'll see what takes my fancy in the shop.

I might go to the Range and buy one of everything from their bathroom beach range. Nothing but class here.

You don't have to live in there, it's just a room you wash and toilet in.

I agree with @InsomniacDormouse that a palm tree theme would pull it together. If all else fails remind yourself it is only a bathroom. And accidents often happen in bathrooms IYKWIM, like things get spilt on the walls so it needs repainting after only a couple of months!

Are you any good at crochet? I feel your pain OP, I have a similar bathroom decor dilemma to deal with. I’m not brave enough to choose the colours to fix it yet

After renting horrendous flats for years in a European country, we always thought the best way to offset garish tiles was go lean in and go even more garish. Think orange bathroom tiles with pink tassel towels, red shower/bath thing with a teal blue safari shower curtain. It ended up taking the edge off as your eye was drawn to the funky accessories. Instead of being an ugly bathroom it was just a silly one. Based on the fact your downstairs loo is a disco I'd go full on colour and pattern for your blinds!

Get white tile stickers (also called tile decals). Much better than painting tiles.

There are really good stickers you can place over tiles, just a plain white design or something like that. If not I'd go for gold accessories and embrace the turquoise, tropical beach vibes, golden sand, turquoise waters.

I don't think it's that bad, but at the moment it doesn't look "pulled together " as the paint colour and tiles aren't great together, however, I think you could easily remedy this with some mustard and wicker accessories.. have a look at matalans bathroom stuff.. the mustard leaf towels and bath mat, there's a mustard cotton wool pot to go on window sill and a wicker bin. The mustard will compliment the teal paint and the brown tiles

Seconding request for pic of disco loo!

We have original 1970s turquoise bath suite and tiles. We now have a shower curtain with pugs wearing pineapples on it and pineapple accessories. I think embrace it and go for the flamingoes!

My bathroom is this colour (maybe brighter) on all walls ceiling to floors apart from the odd white tiles round the bath! I hate it soo much it's the worst room the the house and to make it worse the blinds are the same colour as the walls 😭 cannnot wait until it's redone

Are you on the ground floor, and if so, aren't you worried that someone will walk up and grab you from behind while you're using the toilet?

To be honest, I think you’re fucked unless you go for a full scale redecorate. And if you have just done it once, the will to live let alone redecorate has probably ebbed. So the only answer is to accessorise! I would definitely go for a beach theme and kitsch it to the max. This calls for maximum tat: deckchair striped towels, china fat ladies in cossies (preferably a set of three up the wall a la china ducks), a seagull hanging from the ceiling, themed bog seat, shell shaped soap dish, beach hut shaped bog roll holder. Basically anything you can lay your hands on.

My downstairs khazi is royal throne room themed after a similar incident with gold accented tiles........ Dunelm is your friend.
