Nervous shits before holiday- just me?

Going on holiday tomorrow and my stomach has been agony for two days now. Dh has no idea what I’m on about but I always get it.

It makes me sad ☹️ 😂

Yes Dgm had it, dm, dd1 and I also have it. Every bloody time

TheRLodger · 30/07/2019 22:50

I get this any time I travel on my own by train.
Think it’s it’s that thing of what if I miss my station. Wrong ticket even though I’ve triple checked. Miss a connecting train.

LittleCandle · 30/07/2019 22:56

I get this too. I hate to be late, so I think it is a fear that we'll get held up and miss the plane. DD2 is like this, too. Fortunately, it means that she doesn't mind being at the airport extra early. I used to often feel, a day or two before a holiday, that I didn't want to go and I was very snappy. Thankfully, that part subsided after I got divorced.

I'm very excited about our up-coming holiday, but I know the night before I'll have the shits and not sleep particularly well and I'll be grumpy in the morning I'm always grumpy in the morning but fine once we're in the airport waiting for the plane.

Me too! Without fail. Currently pregnant so also worry that I am going to give birth during travel even though I'm not even nearly due 🙈
I try to tell myself it's displaced excitement.

MrsMaryMooFace · 30/07/2019 23:03

I have found my people! I DESPISE travelling because of how anxious it makes me!
Diazepam from the doctor is the only thing that works for me Blush

Lisette1940 · 30/07/2019 23:05

Thank you all for helping me to feel less alone. I really thought it was unusual to feel this way.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 30/07/2019 23:08

The Germans have a word for this: "Reisefieber" (travel fever), it is general anxiety and things like this, it's,annoying but normal

I get insomnia, indigestion and anxiety....

As soon as I am checked in, it goes!

Dangermouse80 · 30/07/2019 23:09

I always seem to get this too. On the plus side I figure I have emptied myself out before the holiday!! I now only eat very bland small amounts the day before and never an evening meal. If you feel really anxious I found taking a small dose of anti diarrhoea tablet on the morning helps. Accept you get it and just be prepared then get on with enjoying your holiday.Smile

WeeM · 30/07/2019 23:10

I used to be terrible like this when going on holiday then I’d stress about having to use toilet at airport which just made it all worse. I really don’t know what’s changed but I don’t get like that any more, now it’s more just a bit of excitement of going on holiday. I’m still an anxious person in general though and worry and overthink a lot.

MadamePompadour · 30/07/2019 23:11

I get it. Normally I spend most of departure lounge time having the shits in the airport toilets.

bonnielassie1 · 30/07/2019 23:11

When I was little I used to vomit every time we were driving to the airport! I also used to think that airplane food was the worst and the airplane toilet would suck me in! I think everyone gets some nervousness/anxiety before flying/flying/turbulence! It’s just natural

sweetkitty · 30/07/2019 23:13

Yes me too. I have anxiety normally but hate going on holiday. I always think something awful is going to happen to my pets or house. Also just don’t like being somewhere strange. We went to NYC for a week earlier this month I I must be the only person who didn’t enjoy it, I was much happier once we were home.

MissisBee · 30/07/2019 23:15

I'm not too bad for the actual travelling, but always get it when we're booking a holiday

BunnyJumps · 30/07/2019 23:25

I get this when boarding a plane...

unicornsrule · 30/07/2019 23:29

Yep i can get that too i suffer from anxiety
I usually take immodium which sorts it out

StrongerThanIThought76 · 30/07/2019 23:31

Hate flying. Loathe it. Can't wait for the seatbelt sign to go off so I can nip to the loo for an airplane poo!

banivani · 30/07/2019 23:34

Yes me too! My people! Terrible travel anxiety. Had an idea we might go interrailing next summer but don’t think my innards can take it I’ll never get a chance to settle down Grin. This summer we were mostly in Airbnbs but one night in a hotel just before moving on and that was a wasted hotel breakfast let me tell you 🙄 could hardly eat a single bite.

SunsetBunny · 30/07/2019 23:38

I have awful pre holiday stress and anxiety, even just for UK holidays.
It’s a combination of preparing for the time off work and getting ready for the actual holiday. Sometimes I wonder whether it’s actually worth it!

Before travelling I always have notion that I won't make it home again

And me, but I would never admit it in real life. I make sure I leave the house clean, not just because I don’t want to come home to a mess, but because I’m imaging not coming home at all and wouldn’t want friends/family to think I was a slattern. Sad

Missanneshirley · 30/07/2019 23:39

Snap
Have been like this since a kid, one memorable family holiday i threw up multiple times in the last 24hrs at home, on the way to the airport, at the airport, then one last time on the runway before the plane took off. Totally fine as soon as we were in the air. As a previous poster said, the upside is feeling very light and thin at the start of your hols!

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 30/07/2019 23:39

Not me! But I get a back stomach when I get home. Anyone else.

Lucked · 30/07/2019 23:43

My problem is while I am away - can’t poop! Doesn’t matter if I exist on fibre and water it is like it shuts up shop. There was a a time in Lake Garda when DH went to the pharmacy for me (prior to google translate) pharmacist spoke no English and DH no Italian. He had to mime my condition 😂

SunsetBunny · 30/07/2019 23:43

That will be the E. coli /dysentery/montezumas/insert other dodgy food/water bourne illness

AltheaVestr1t · 30/07/2019 23:46

Yes, me too. I love travelling though - I think it’s just too many things to organise/remember/not mess up. Obviously all of the million things that need to be done before a holiday are my job. 🙄

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 30/07/2019 23:47

@lucked funnily enough I can't go when I'm away, for a good 3-4 days it takes me!

Biiscuits · 30/07/2019 23:53

@lucked that mental image had me creasing with laughter, thanks!! Grin Grin Grin

This thread. You are my people!

I fucking hate travelling, I never want to go on holiday, I feel sad about it sometimes but I get anxiety so much that I spend the night before wide awake, the morning of shitting like a trooper, and the actual flight petrified I'll be sick. AWFUL.
