Week 2 here, got back from Camp Bestival yesterday which was brilliant..kids and grown up's all had a ball.

Been too tired to do much more today than pick the cat up from the cattery and go to Sainsburys.

Going to have to come up with some sort of plan for the rest of the week though as cabin fever set in today.

Only 4 and half weeks left to fill....

Thoroughly enjoying it so far-this is only day 4 for us so lots of weeks to go!

Would like some more sunshine though Grin.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 30/07/2019 17:05

Second week in and theres a lot of free clubs going on here for ds 5 at least twice a week, hes really enjoying the time at home

Rubytinsleslippers · 30/07/2019 17:06

Into week 4 here..really enjoyed it so far..but weather has been great - which makes a huge difference!

happypotamus · 30/07/2019 18:31

It's the second week, and we haven't done anything interesting. I seem to have spent the time repeatedly asking DC1 to tidy their bedroom so they can invite friends round. Have been to work some of the time while they have done fun stuff with DH. DC2 has still been going to nursery 3 days a week.

Daphnesmate · 30/07/2019 21:19

I have a toddler and two school age children.

TBH, I find it much harder now that other 2 dcs are at home (especially the younger of the two). Dc's usually have lunches at school and we are in a good routine - because I have a toddler, I am awake anyway usually, so don't get lovely lie ins. Plus, I then need to organise activities for days that aren't covered by holiday club etc. I am a full-time sahm and fortunate to be able to send dc to holiday club a few days a week (dc enjoys holiday club and requires a lot of stimulation/sociable/high energy). With 3 dcs portability to different things is often a struggle but eldest usually visits friends etc and is fairly independent.

I think my issue is the ages of my dcs - if my two youngest dcs were a bit older, I think it would be easier, plus I have next to no extended family so I do find older dcs being at school a help. I definitely feel more tired since the start of the holidays.

I think it is good for dcs to have a break though, to recharge their batteries, it's just unfortunate that mine aren't getting re-charged much in the process (from a purely selfish point of view). However, it is great not to have to do the school run.

We’re in week 2. I live in a national park and my parents live in another national park. We’re all very outdoorsy, so spent the 1st few days on home adventures, caving, biking, walking. Now currently at my parents and been camping nearby by the beach, lots of swimming, surfing, biking.

Off to in-laws tomorrow, they live in a large city which is exciting for us country folk 🤣 So going to go trampolining and to the aquarium. It’ll be the 1st time we spend money up to now!

I like free outdoor stuff 🤣

ceilihouse · 30/07/2019 22:17

We are end long week 1 of 3 weeks in Lanzarote, boys fighting, saying they are bored and missing Xbox I give up 🙄🙄

TreacherousPissFlap · 30/07/2019 22:20

Splendidly Grin
DS left on an expedition two days before school broke up - he still has another 11 days to go so our holidays have been exceptionally peaceful.

IHeartKingThistle · 30/07/2019 22:26

Not great. DH is really poorly and we've cancelled our holiday. I'll make the best of it somehow though. Worse things happen at sea.

SmallBee · 30/07/2019 22:34

Second day in Tuscanny and I'm in A&E because when I tried to light the oven in our Airbnb the gas did a big 'whomp' fireball and burnt my hand, a lot. Hurts like fuck and I keep finding different parts of my hair that have been singed. I smell like burnt and there is Italian love island in the waiting room.
Good news, dh is with me and we are with four grandparents who are looking after the sleeping DCs.

SadSad

BubblesBubbly · 30/07/2019 23:03

Ah @SmallBee that’s really shit!!! Hope you get to enjoy the rest of your hols x

DavetheCat2001 · 31/07/2019 08:09

@SmallBee poor you.. that sounds really painful.. hope you are recovered soon and can enjoy your holiday 🌷

Good to see some folk are having a good time.

We have recently moved into a house that has stretched us beyond our limits financially, and needs a ton of work doing to it. Also I haven't worked since last December, so money is really tight so trying to think of things to keep my two DC occupied that costs nowt!

We have a plumber coming in week after next to fit a new boiler and connect up the water and heating upstairs (we have neither at the moment) which is going to be messy and disruptive. Fortunately the kids are off up to OH's parents for that week and will have a ball as OH's mum is fantastic at planning lots of fun stuff to do 👌

I shall be escaping to my elderly mothers for a few days to avoid the chaos!

I've worked all of it so far - DH had first 4 days off with them (I don't work Fridays). Wedding season is upon us soon. We went abroad at Easter and are again over Oct half term. Also DH and I travel with work and feel like we've made enough of a carbon foot print as a family this year - will have a staycation probably the Lakes in the last week of holidays.

Miss time with my DC from when I was a SAHM. They have some time at holiday club coming up - they obviously needed to recharge my mum who is looking after them this week is having to wake them up - the eldest age 8 slept til 10am yesterday! Tired kids

kazza446 · 31/07/2019 08:22

Just into our second week and our first week was an utter shambles! 2 of my 4 children had the vomiting bug, 5 days apart, my fridge freezer broke and needed replacing. We decided to have a day away at the weekend when everyone was fit and healthy only for the car to breakdown on the motorway. We then had a 6 hour recovery journey home. We spent most of the day at a service station as the AA cocked up on our recovery! On a positive note, we’ve never had a day out at a service station before! I’m working this week so the kids are just entertaining themselves as I work. That’s the polite term. What I really mean Is it’s a free for all while I try to get on with my work downstairs. Only one week until we fly off on holiday for a few weeks!! I have 2 sulky teens who don’t want to do anything, nothing is cool anymore 😩

Morgan12 · 31/07/2019 08:40

Week 4 here. Has a week away last week which was lovely. Oldest is 6 and he isn't interested in anything except his playstation. Doesn't want to go to the park or swimming today. Just wants to play fortnite with his friends. It's hard because theres no kids out playing round here either so feel like he is always alone.

Dowser · 31/07/2019 09:01

Too much rain, not enough sun

Tumbleweed101 · 31/07/2019 09:04

I’ve been off myself since beginning of hols so it has been nice just to chill out. Got some decluttering done too. Been to beach and kids went to their dads for a day so had a bit of time for myself too. Back to work tomorrow though so going to be busier from now on.

Dowser · 31/07/2019 09:06

Had two grandchildren 16 and 9 at our caravan for 4 days
It was great to spend time with them but it made me aware of how much time is spent on phones / Nintendo

Chipsahoy · 31/07/2019 09:09

Week 3 here. First was fab, Dh was off so we had a few days away then lot of days out. Second week was OK. Ds1 wasn't well one day, but he a good time at a day camp two other days. Plus weather was amazing, so paddling pool, parks, water fights, etc.
Monday was good this week, warm weather so park trip. Yesterday was torrential rain so we stayed home and did very little. Today, and rest of week, more rain.
It's so much easier to entertain them when it's sunny!

Deathraystare · 31/07/2019 09:37

Only one week until we fly off on holiday for a few weeks!!

Kazza - Let's hope your holiday goes swimmingly!!!

Titsywoo · 31/07/2019 09:46

Week 2 here and been pretty good so far. I worked half of last week and dc went out with my parents or hung out at home. Went camping with a group of friends at a festival last weekend which was great fun. Dc saw friends on Monday and I worked yesterday but we've got 2 free days now so will be out for those. 12 days until we go on holiday Smile

SudowoodoVoodoo · 31/07/2019 10:30

Week 1 here. Been stuck in with rain & DIY. Kids have been surprisingly happy being in the house with very little agenda so far.

Holiday is strategically planned to straddle weeks 3-4 to break it up. Last year we went at the start, DS1 still wasn't unwound from KS1 SATs and struggling with his moods then it was a very long month afterwards as DS1 stressed up worrying that y3 would be worse than y2 (it wasn't)

My other vow from last year is that we need a break from eachother, so DS2 has a sports club session booked each week, great for him and giving DS1 some quiet 1:1 time which he loves (will not do sports clubs). That's a change of dynamic for me which helps.

Nearly 50 days of constantly being in each others' company was not pretty!

Daphnesmate · 31/07/2019 10:32

Our holiday (away) is already behind us sadly - the weather was fab and it was a lovely change of scene.

DC2 going to holiday club this year and that is going to be a lifesaver for me because I am not used to looking after two young children at home (eldest two are usually at school) and I find it really difficult to split my attention.

Eldest is a young teen, generally mooching about when not with friends which is probably all I ever did and to be expected but because she is almost as big as me I find it difficult not to consider her another adult and expect more - so I am running around after her younger siblings whilst she is painting her nails and trying on clothes - I do find this difficult!

Week 2 almost over. I'm afraid because of the ages of my dcs I am not jumping up and down about the hols (from a purely selfish perspective) but it is good for dcs to take a break. Just glad I don't have to decamp to the local park like I did last Summer (no holiday club then) - just the easiest option with young dcs I found but after the umpteenth time it did get a bit wearing.

Also having a boiler fitted next week, building work ongoing but hasn't affected us massively.

DavetheCat2001 · 31/07/2019 10:32

My kids have been watching a lot of tv and playing on their Kindle Fire's a lot.....

Unfortunately, I think I am feeling pretty burnt out from dcs - been a sahm for years and for most them because of age gaps, I have always had a dc at home - won't lie looking forward to youngest dc starting pre-school to re-claim a bit more me time but still several months away from that happening - no more dcs for me, I'm maxed out. No extended family either. DH is fab but works full-time.
