Boris - every home in the UK will get a leaflet, good idea or utterly pointless?

Daily Fail article here

Personally I think it's a massive waste of money. Most of us hear the daily news one way or another. Why go to the expense of a leaflet drop? What do you think?

OP posts:
Kaddm · 29/07/2019 04:19

What is the leaflet going to say?

Kez200 · 29/07/2019 04:40

Bunkers, buy rice, unicorns are on their way?

nagynolonger · 29/07/2019 04:59

Sounds like we are back where we started. David Cameron sent us all a leaflet. That one was a waste of paper and £9 million.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 29/07/2019 05:47

They are doing it so when it all falls apart. The government can say....well we did tell u how prepare so it is your own fault.

Wait for the threads on here when people say they are struggling. And people point out that you had the leaflet or comments like you know it was coming now could u not prepare Confused

bellinisurge · 29/07/2019 05:52

If there is anything on it suggesting we get a buffer of food in, do you think there will also be an option of metaphorically shoving it up tbe arse of everyone on here who has called me a scaremonger for suggesting it since last year.

Cherrypi · 29/07/2019 06:09

Won't it cause panic buying and food shortages? Even if it says don't stockpile. Tv and social media advertising would be more environmentally friendly.

TipseyTorvey · 29/07/2019 06:29

He's finding this all terribly terribly exciting isn't it he? Thinks he's the next churchhill and will come into his own as we go into battle with the Germans once more. Tally ho!! Bellinisurge I took all your advice last time so will be following you once more for Oct. I'm so pissed off that BJ is prime minister I am avoiding the news as much as possible to keep my blood pressure down.

bellinisurge · 29/07/2019 06:35

Sensible plan @TipseyTorvey . Glad I helped your thinking about your situation.

The thing people forget to mention about the "cry wolf " argument is that there actually was a wolf.

Iggly · 29/07/2019 06:37

Not from credited sources.

And any leaflet from Boris Johnson is going to be filled with bullshit.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 29/07/2019 06:39

What a complete waste of money.

Iggly · 29/07/2019 06:39

I think for most people under about 60, some form of smartphone app or social media is more effective and much cheaper and for most older people, TV or radio adverts, but you have to accept that you can't make everyone take notice, however you disseminate the information

I disagree. A range of sources is better. Age the grand of age of 37, as someone who uses shit loads of internet sources, I prefer a paper leaflet as I can pop it on my notice board.

However, as I’ve said, anything from this government will be propaganda.

Just like all the shit on Facebook and Twitter. Propaganda.

StealthPolarBear · 29/07/2019 06:43

bellinisurge I'll start rolling them up for you.

Seriously though if e leaflet says stockpile good and medicines and make sure your cat is kept full of fuel does he not see that this is showing what a FAILURE the whole idea is? Positive changes don't need to be accompanied by national panic.

bellinisurge · 29/07/2019 07:19

@StealthPolarBear , my cat is currently checking out her stash in our garage so that she will be full of fuel.Grin

I know that you meant "car ". 😂

CrunchyCarrot · 29/07/2019 07:31

Johnson announcing his new golden age, is he? I hate to tell him, that's just the reflection of his hair in the mirror. Hmm

Waste of paper, if you ask me.

GazingIntoTheAbyss · 29/07/2019 07:33

I suspect that the leaflet is going to be as useful as the Protect and Survive leaflet in Raymond Briggs' 'When the Wind Blows'.

BagpussAteMyHomework · 29/07/2019 07:37

Perhaps they’ll announce the fuel and food rationing arrangements in the same leaflet.

Rhubarbisevil · 29/07/2019 07:39

Slightly at a tangent, but the Brexit PR spin has started already. Sky News won’t let me share the link but here’s a screen grab of the DEFRA quote. It’s the article about the export of shark fins. Bloody EU, it says...

Don’t be silly. There’s already people on this thread redefining to it as propaganda and talking about sending it back before they’ve even seen it. In reality this should have been done months ago.

Although whether they’ll actually manage to have more useful advice than the weekly emails we were getting at work is a good question.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 29/07/2019 08:45

I would say that if you have a homegrown policy that means every household needs to prepare for the worst, it's probably not a sensible policy. I can't imagine the leaflet will be anything other than propaganda and a waste of money. It isn't as if the current government aren't known for lies and bluster.

Likethebattle · 29/07/2019 09:01

Well that’s a piece of history to keep to show the next generation how we shat on their futures.

StealthPolarBear · 29/07/2019 15:11

Horrified at the cat full of fuel!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 29/07/2019 15:15

Waste of paper.

Mine will get posted back (without the stamp so they have to pay to collect it from the sorting office).

I'm nothing if not petty Wink

Rhubarbisevil · 29/07/2019 16:52

Cinammoncake · 29/07/2019 17:18

As long as it's printed on non-shiny paper I can think of at least one use for it...

Grin Grin

HelenaDove · 29/07/2019 19:18

If the late Dovecat was still with us id put it in her litter tray.

Not that i think Boris would be worthy of being anywhere near her arse.
