DC has received six of the same gifts...

Oh dear. DC has just had a birthday, and has received six duplicate presents Blush it's exactly the same thing, related to one of their interests, and I see that it's currently on sale at Argos.

While it's lovely that people are so kind and so aware of what DC likes, we really don't need six. What can we do with them? I couldn't possibly ask for the receipts, I'd die of rudeness

ReeReeR the point is with the receipts the toys can be exchanged for something the child will actually use. The returned items can then be purchased by someone else who actually wants it - rather than just dumped (aka 're - gifted') on someone we else who doesn't want it. Oh and I like "stuff" I have a lot of it. I am not saying we shouldn't have things and gifts - just doesn't it make so much more sense to buy a gift that is something a person specificly wants.

I wouldn't ask for the receipts either. Take the lot to Argos and see what they will do. Don't mention it to the gift givers but don't sweat about it coming up. It's quite a funny story.Grin

Don’t ask for receipts, that’s just rude, particularly as you didn’t ask for gifts and you don’t want your DC to be overwhelmed with ‘stuff’. Good idea to keep a couple for the Christmas gift appeal & then hopefully Argos will offer you vouchers. Or just give to a charity shop, that’s what I used to do with all the Lego my DS was given over the years, seemingly the only DC in the world who doesn’t like Lego Grin.

Argos will def take it back, although at the last sold price and give you a gift card. And the return does not show up on the buyers' card.

BlueSkiesLies · 28/07/2019 19:48

I’d be happy to give you the receipt

Duck90 · 28/07/2019 20:17

It can’t be assumed that they were all bought from Argos. Surely the staff would raise an eyebrow at someone turning up with 5 of the same item, and no proof of sale for any of them? (For example - they could have been bought in bulk at carboot/eBay at a fraction of the price).

I would take one item back (if any at all).

I've been doing this for years when dc have birthdays - no kids need 30 presents. We do 3 piles.
Keep
Regift- not a present we would use but others might
Return- we already have/ very similar - i google and see where sells it like Tesco/ JL and return as unwanted gift from granny.
Never had a prob - if the store can't do gift receipt/ it is reduced so much as worth more as the product we keep.
