What's everyone doing with their kids tomorrow in this heat?

It was 33 degrees here at 7pm and is forecast to be worse tomorrow for the first day of the school holidays. So what are people doing with their kids?! The house is fairly cool but too small and stuffy to stay in all day, and it's too hot between 10-4pm to be outside at these temperatures. So what can we do?! I'm thinking maybe cinema. Oh and my eldest hates swimming so that's out. Kids are 5 and nearly 8.

I thought mine would be knackered but they're bouncing off the walls! Indoor mini golf from Aldi is going down well but we can't stay in all day...I'll go crazy!

Garden. Paddling pool. Gazebo up for shade. Make ice lollies. Do nothing. Go nowhere Grin

Misty9 · 24/07/2019 20:22

I had a lovely garden with shade, play stuff and hammock. But we split up Sad

Tomorrow we’re going camping. Crazy. But today we did early morning park visit, drive to do a couple of errands (a/c in car), then home for lunch and a film, then baking (crazy hot but they liked it) and then they pottered with toys. Early dinner, play in garden in shade, then 45 minutes in the bath to cool off.

Orangedaisy · 24/07/2019 20:23

Sorry cross post! Have you a garden at all?

BikeRunSki · 24/07/2019 20:23

I know you said your DS hates swimming, but outdoor pool.its a good 45 min drive away (air conditioned car!). Queue was huge, but we just got in. Was brilliant just being in water for a couple of hours.

MrsPear · 24/07/2019 20:26

Erm flying if the tarmac doesn’t nest

DeathMetalMum · 24/07/2019 20:30

We're off swimming first thing. Then home and watch a film or two in the afternoon with ice cream/ice pops. It will be much to hot for Dd's, cinema would be a good idea or anywhere local you know has air con.

VforVienetta · 24/07/2019 20:31

A three hour drive! Leaving as early as possible to get it over and done with while it's relatively cool, breakfast in the car etc.

Titsywoo · 24/07/2019 20:31

Today I worked in the morning so this afternoon we went to a board game cafe (air-conditioned!) and played games all afternoon. Tomorrow I have to work until 1 then we need to pack for camping on Friday so will do that across the afternoon in between jumping into the paddling pool. Also need camping food so will go to Sainsburys and linger in the freezer section Grin.

I'm worried about the dog though - she's a bulldog and struggles with the heat.

missyB1 · 24/07/2019 20:33

We’ve filled the paddling pool ready. He’s got a friend coming over for the whole day and I’ve bought them water pistols. They can also play some board games indoors and we’ve got a table tennis table.

Camomila · 24/07/2019 20:33

DS will be at nursery all day. They've got a big garden with lots of trees and will probably get all the water trays out.

HeyMicky · 24/07/2019 20:35

Ballet camp and nursery!

But early pick up then we're going for a swim at our gym in the outdoor pool. Might buy them dinner there to save having to cook

PianoPiano · 24/07/2019 20:35

Paddling pool, then a film and popcorn :)

Misty9 · 24/07/2019 20:57

I have a very small and overgrown garden. One of my jobs for the summer is to get the dc to help me tame It, but not in this heat! I'm struggling a bit as it's the first summer as a lone parent (their dad will have them half the time as normal) so it's hard to see/hear of all the families going away and most of my friends are either working or on holidays Sad

Some museums will have air con depending on the exhibits.

We're going to the pool as soon as it opens, then home for lunch. Kids don't have to swim in a pool, mine just splashes about with his buoyancy aid on. We'll close everything down so it'll be about 26 degrees and dark when we get home, but better than over heating outside. DS has his room to tidy and stuff to sort out for next term.

Belindabelle · 24/07/2019 21:11

In the circumstances I think cinema is a good call. Then go to the supermarket and just hang out in the freezer aisle for a while.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 24/07/2019 21:11

Park first thing, before it gets too hot. Maybe library after that. Meeting DH for lunch in air-conditioned supermarket, a bit of food shopping, then books/games/tv at home until Grandma comes to take over late afternoon so I can go to a work meeting.

Leftielefterson · 24/07/2019 21:14

In London it’s scheduled to be 39 degrees - fml! I’m a bit concerned that my baby will burn, she has Snow White skin. She loves to be out so I’m loathe to keep her indoors (I hate, hate, hate staying in) so I thought I’d take her swimming to our local lido (I went today without her and it was nice and refreshing) and then I’ll take her to the splash park near me.

We had fun in the garden today, in a paddling pool. It was lovely

TickledOnion · 24/07/2019 21:15

Mine are still at school!

Singleandproud · 24/07/2019 21:19

Dd is still at school, finishes at 1pm and we’ll be heading straight to our beach a 10 min walk away.

thismeansnothing · 24/07/2019 21:23

Today we went to a huge shopping centre for the day. There were some holiday activities on. Window shopping. Lunch. Promise of a new book for behaving. And most importantly. Air con

Misty9 · 25/07/2019 10:42

So far we've been at the park from 8am and now we're in the library before heading home for a DVD and lunch. It's boiling and has been since 9! Eldest is grumping but I'm doing my best to ignore him...

What's everyone else up to?
