Do you iron ALL of your DCs clothes?

FairfaxAikman · 24/07/2019 07:40

Obviously I do the stuff that. Needs it like shirts etc, but I've never bothered with plain cotton t-shirts and jogging bottoms etc particularly as DS is only 18 months and gets them covered in all sorts.
However MIL was over yesterday babysitting and she's ironed all DSs tips because she "can't bear it when he's not turned out properly".
Is this overkill or am I just a slummy mummy?
Personally I'd rather play with him on my days off than sit ironing.

Not joggers but everything else, yes. I iron everyone's clothes. I like it and am unapologetic about that!

SinkGirl · 24/07/2019 07:43

You’d be better off asking if I iron any of my kids clothes. I do not 😂

Vanannabananna · 24/07/2019 07:43

What’s an iron!? Actually DH or I do his shirts and anything else that really needs it. Everything else gets washed, dried, folded and put away.

Nope. I iron barely anything, just dresses really.

Anyone who judges you for it is an utter twat.

newmomof1 · 24/07/2019 07:44

I iron all of the baby's clothes and have no idea why because most of them look exactly the same before and after 😩🙈

Parker231 · 24/07/2019 07:46

Don’t iron - straight out of the tumble dryer onto a hanger and they are fine.

Fairylea · 24/07/2019 07:46

The only thing I iron is shirts for work and that’s it. Everything else gets shaken and put on a hanger when it comes out of the wash unless it can be tumbled. Then I just tumble and fold. Can’t be bothered with ironing, feels like a total waste of time.

pennypineapple · 24/07/2019 07:46

I tend to iron tops and dresses but not joggers/leggings/shorts.

These days though I think there are a lot of people who don't iron their DC's clothes or even their own so I doubt your DS looks out of place.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/07/2019 07:46

I don't iron anything. The things we own that require it (DH's work shirts, the occasional dress) get sent out for ironing.

Fairylea · 24/07/2019 07:47

Actually I’d be pretty annoyed if mil did that because I’d rather she the spent time with dc rather than chores!

megletthesecond · 24/07/2019 07:48

Nothing is ironed in this house.
I hang it out to dry on the line then straight onto hangers. Even school shirts look presentable that way.

OtraCosaMariposa · 24/07/2019 07:49

I don't iron any of it. Sometimes school shirts if it's a special occasion or a top which is particularly crumpled. Nothing else gets ironed.

user1474894224 · 24/07/2019 07:49

I rarely ironed when they were teeny. Unfortunately I started a few years ago and now I find I iron more and more.... It's a slippery slope... don't go down it. Life is too short. 😂 (I do actually think if you never iron a polo shirt for example they don't need it ....but once you do there is something 'protective' on the material that goes and next you have to iron it again....)

melissasummerfield · 24/07/2019 07:52

Yes i iron all of their clothes and i must be an ‘utter twat’ Hmm because i do judge the parents of children who look like a bag of rag, especially school uniform.

I have 3 dc and spend about an hour a week ironing, after they are in bed.

There will be loads of posters saying you cant tell, sorry but you can Confused

FairfaxAikman · 24/07/2019 07:55

Melissa is put school shirts in the "must be ironed" category.

I do iron all DC's clothes. I think it looks neater. And I think it feels nicer to get into ironed clothes.
I iron all my clothes, so I want that for my DC too.
Children's clothes only take a few seconds to iron, anyway.
So there is plenty of time for playing as well as ironing.
I probably spend 1-2 hours a week ironing for the whole family, including sheets and things. But clothes for 1 child for a week would probably only take about 15 minutes, it's hardly an onerous task!

Witchofthenorth · 24/07/2019 07:57

I only iron if it needs it. School shirts and dresses and work shirts. And even then I iron when I need it. Can think of nothing worse than standing ironing a load of laundry. Reminds me of being younger when still living at home. Ironing was one of my chores and mum wanted everything ironed.
We had a family of 7 and it was done once a week. I used to spend a Sunday ironing for 5 hours straight. Hated it!!!

icantfind · 24/07/2019 07:58

I agree @melissasummerfield I iron everything. It feels and looks so different. Can always tell when something isn't ironed.

SinkGirl · 24/07/2019 08:00

I have two disabled children and health issues myself. Judge away, I’m used to it.
I have to prioritise tasks and ironing is way down that list.

Chilledout11 · 24/07/2019 08:04

I iron their school uniform and t shirts that need it. MIL shouldn't have done that as it's rude to say he wasn't turned out properly. As long as a child is clean and clothes fit then ironing is nice but not essential .

Ohyesiam · 24/07/2019 08:07

I dont iron anything apart from linen.

Line drying helps enormously with this.

Wakeupalready · 24/07/2019 08:09

Nope.
I iron nothing. School uniforms get pitched in the dryer for five minutes before school, give them a shake and away.
Otherwise line drying and folding neatly as you take it off works just fine.

Strugglingtodomybest · 24/07/2019 08:10

I don't iron any clothes. If MIL wants to do it, let her crack on, but don't let her make you feel bad.

And I agree, anyone who judges people for not ironing is an utter twat. Or at the very least, a bit stupid, imo.

cookiechomper · 24/07/2019 08:14

I iron most of their clothes. Some stuff like leggings don't get creased, or if you hang shirts and tops up straight after they come out the drier, they don't need ironing. But everything else, yes.

Vanillaradio · 24/07/2019 08:19

The only things that get ironed in this house are dh's work shirts which he does! Nothing belonging to me or ds ever gets ironed! Ds's school uniform is hung up after washing and hadn't needed ironing as yet (polo shirts) Once he gets proper shirts in Year 3 might be different!
