Do you iron ALL of your DCs clothes?

Obviously I do the stuff that. Needs it like shirts etc, but I've never bothered with plain cotton t-shirts and jogging bottoms etc particularly as DS is only 18 months and gets them covered in all sorts.
However MIL was over yesterday babysitting and she's ironed all DSs tips because she "can't bear it when he's not turned out properly".
Is this overkill or am I just a slummy mummy?
Personally I'd rather play with him on my days off than sit ironing.

I iron nothing. DH does his own shirts. I don't care if people can tell, but actually they can't. My mum has started not ironing anything as well because she says you can't tell I don't iron, so why bother? And she used to iron sheets.

SnowsInWater · 24/07/2019 09:08

Life is way too short to iron. DH irons DD's school uniform along with his shirts, that's pretty much all that gets ironed in our house 😁

FairfaxAikman · 24/07/2019 09:08

But the question really should be why you let your MIL do this

I didn't let her. She just did it and the first I knew about it was this morning (I got in late from work and went straight to bed)

I do l ow someone who thinks she is 'better' because she irons everything compared to my almost nothing.

She irons for hours, with a fag hanging out of her mouth. So while the kids may look pristine they absolutely stink. It's disgusting.

MrsTumbletap · 24/07/2019 09:10

Whenever DS goes to my MIL she buys him completely new outfits and dresses him like a sailer old man. Makes us laugh we just ignore.

I iron tops and jeans and school uniform, joggers would only be worn at home so wouldn't iron them.

Minai · 24/07/2019 09:19

I have literally never ironed anything of my son’s and he is 2

Luckystar1 · 24/07/2019 09:20

I very rarely iron. Occasionally a shirt or a top or a dress, but very rarely. Definitely not the children’s clothes. I have ironed them in the past, and they look exactly the same.

CookPassBabtridge · 24/07/2019 09:23

Only time we iron is for funerals, weddings and job interviews..

avalanching · 24/07/2019 09:37

No because frankly I have much better things to be doing. My DH irons as he has uniform, so he will do the few awkward bits that you can't really get away with shirts, school uniform etc. But the dryer does everything else, and I would bet 9 out of 10 people would not notice if they've been ironed, and the other 1 wouldn't be someone I'd socialise with anyway.

MsMustDoBetter · 24/07/2019 09:40

No, I launder in a way that means that nothing is creased. I might press a dress or blouse if I absolutely have to, but it is a lot of time and energy for little return. My DC don't look like dishevelled urchins, they always look immaculate (at the start of the day).

Camomila · 24/07/2019 10:11

I iron none of DSs clothes because he is 3 and lives in t-shirts and tracksuit bottoms/shirts.
The rare occassions I put him in a shirt (eg DGMs birthday etc) then DH irons it.

Our 1st choice primary school has shirts (specific school ones) right from reception so I guess we'll have to start ironing.

BlackInk · 24/07/2019 10:48

I don't iron anything really, except for Hama beads and the occasional shirt/dress for a wedding! We just hang things carefully to dry and fold/hang neatly. I don't think we look scruffy...

When my DD was little the health visitor doing her 3 year check got out a toy ironing board and asked her what it was/what you do with it. She said it was a surf board and climbed on :)

TheJoxter · 24/07/2019 10:51

I never iron anything
Everything gets a good shake, pleats pulled into shape etc then hung up to dry, even linen, it all looks the same once it’s been worn for a few hours anyway!

CassianAndor · 24/07/2019 10:52

No, none of it. No school uniform so no blouses. I would iron those, though.

I did go through a phase of ironing all of DD's stuff, it lasted maybe a couple of months?

Pinktinker · 24/07/2019 10:56

Nope, I don’t own an iron. They don’t look unironed.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 24/07/2019 10:58

People ironing toddler clothes is a revelation to me Confused

None of my DCs stuff needs ironing. Trousers don't crease if hung on the airer out of the machine. T shirts uncrease on him if they crease at all.

Oh wait, I ironed his christening outfit but that's all that's seen an iron.

School uniform will get done if needed, fortunately we are still in nursery years.

DontPanic42 · 24/07/2019 12:20

I'm not sure my DCs would even recognise an iron, I don't iron their stuff but probably will iron their uniform when they go to school, and I would iron work stuff but that's about it!

babysharkah · 24/07/2019 12:21

Nope. Don't iron anything. If DH has to wear a shirt (rarely) it goes to the cleaners. I have far more interesting things to do with my time than iron.

Bookworm4 · 24/07/2019 12:25

I’ve yet to come across all these kids with unironed clothes🤔
Occasionally you see a child at school and sorry but they look scruffy and uncared for in crumpled clothes.
Is it a MN badge of pride? ‘I’m cool I never iron?’

WellTidy · 24/07/2019 12:25

Pretty much everything is ironed in our house. Bedding, shirts/blouses, all school uniform, trousers, jeans, joggers, kids pyjamas. I suppose the only things that aren't ironed are running kit, socks, undies and towels.

I don't iron myself though, I pay an ironing lady to come in and iron for about three or four hours a week.

I know it sounds a lot, but i really like everything we wear looking like its been ironed. I also hang pretty much everything up. I don't think anything of seeing anyone else in unironed clothes though, it makes no difference to me whatsoever.

sugarbum · 24/07/2019 12:26

I don't iron much. Some of my frocks need ironing and they get shoved on a pile until there's at least 5 needs doing.
DS1 wears shirts to school but DH normally does those with his own work shirts.
Otherwise. No ironing. They are kids. If they look a bit crumbled its not a problem!

RedSheep73 · 24/07/2019 12:28

If you iron any of them you're doing more than some of us. What a waste of time!

BlackInk · 24/07/2019 12:37

@Bookworm4 You have come across 'all these kids with unironed clothes' but you haven't noticed because it's not obvious! If you dry and store clothes neatly they don't look crumpled at all...

Bookworm4 · 24/07/2019 12:47

@blackink
The kids I see are wearing clearly ironed shirts for school and scruffs are noticeable. It’s not some badge of pride not to iron.
But it’s a cool MN thing seemingly.
Using dryers constantly isn’t exactly good for your clothes or the environment.

babysharkah · 24/07/2019 12:49

If you can shake and fold properly out if the machine you really don't need to iron.
