We live in a chalet bungalow, my two DS are fast asleep in the oldest, coolest part of the house (downstairs) I am upstairs in the crap extension which is too cold in the winter and traps all the heat in the summer. I am in vest and pants, have all the windows open, but its like an oven up here. I feel like I'm going to be awake all night. Aaagh its toooooo hot, should I just go down into the lounge and join the cats?ConfusedGrin

I'm Sunderland way but also can't sleep. Had a few strikes according to the map but way off the coast. Google says 23° but it's so stuffy it feels hotter.

Have the fan on and I'm in the buff but I'm wide awake.

Some tips I used when I moved to a house in Australia with no air con. Dampen a sheet with cold water, even stick it in the freezer for a bit. Sleep under it. Get a mist spray, fill it with iced water, use liberally. Put a load of ice or cool blocks in front of your fan. Don't open your curtains. And finally, if you can afford it, get an air con unit.

Spectacular storm in South East and rain has pierced the humidity thankfully

DontCallMeBaby · 24/07/2019 01:15

Hm, I think Gloucester is west, Stroud and Cirencester are south, Cleeve and then Evesham and stuff are north. Oh and Tewkesbury. Cotswolds to the east.

Still raining and rumbling away but the constant lightning has ceased.

firstidrinkthecoffee · 24/07/2019 01:15

Rain at last! Just had to shut the velux though!

firstidrinkthecoffee · 24/07/2019 01:16

@DontCallMeBaby
I'm in between Ciren and Cheltenham, rain has just hit here.

DontCallMeBaby · 24/07/2019 01:18

Not heading north then! And apparently the rain hasn’t finished with us here either.

catlovingdoctor · 24/07/2019 01:19

Here in SW London it’s feeling very warm and muggy. No rest for me so far. A bit of lightning but no rain.

firstidrinkthecoffee · 24/07/2019 01:20

@DontCallMeBaby it's very loud rain. Sounds like hail! Thunder hasn't stopped here either. I think the storm is circling.

MillicentMartha · 24/07/2019 01:21

Raining here in Cheltenham heavily again. Bliss!

ThatClaireIsARightPain · 24/07/2019 01:24

Massive storm in Warwickshire. I’m wide awake too! God knows how rest of family is sleeping ...

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 24/07/2019 01:27

The storm has nearly reached us... lightning in the distance for a few minutes now and just heard thunder. Which means we've had to pull the windows almost closed and it's tooooooo hooooottttttt!

QuestionableMouse · 24/07/2019 01:28

I'm dreading work on Fri. Forecast 25° but will likely be 10° hotter inside as the air con isn't great. It makes me feel so ill. 😩

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 24/07/2019 01:28

Oh god hear comes the rain... is it unacceptable to go and stand in it?

cheeseislife8 · 24/07/2019 01:30

Absolutely not Zelda, I'd be doing that if it was here! Send some my way

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 24/07/2019 01:31

I'm willing it your way, cheese!

DH is currently trying to take a photo of the lightning. And saying "wooaaaah!" a lot, like Keanu Reeves in Bill & Ted.

It's going to be a long night.

QuestionableMouse · 24/07/2019 01:46

Fairly sure I just heard a rumble of thunder!

QuestionableMouse · 24/07/2019 01:49

Heading my way!

I can't sleeeeep its too hot
FurrySlipperBoots · 24/07/2019 01:49

No hint of a storm here in Cornwall, but we're not having the overwhelming heat you guys upcountry are! It's a bit too warm to sleep comfortably though.

Mojitomogul · 24/07/2019 01:55

Little tip to help your body feel cool- buy some biofreeze gel or roll on from boots, it's a sore muscle soother that works in the opposite way to deep heat, it's like having an ice pack on your skin and helps cool a few parts of your skin down enough to get comfortable! Dont put on the face though! Its lovely on your shoulders and lower back and feels all cold and tingly for a good 30 mins!

cheeseislife8 · 24/07/2019 02:01

Zelda thanks, and enjoy your excellent adventure 😁

Still muggy af. Might try the reverse deep heat tomorrow if this doesn't break soon!

mrsdolittle · 24/07/2019 02:15

Massive storm stuck over Gloucestershire. Been going for nearly two hours. Never seen lightning like it.

Given up trying to sleep now!

cheeseislife8 · 24/07/2019 02:23

It's arrived!

BooseysMom · 24/07/2019 07:08

Omg What a night! Did anyone fall asleep only to be woke by a massive of thunder like it was ripping the sky open?! Then it poured with rain for a few mins and then it was over. Feel absolutely knackered today! The sun is back..here we go again Hmm

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 24/07/2019 07:23

Just been woken by DS who's had nowhere near enough sleep... coffee and matchsticks required!
