Help me, I wish I'd never seen these back packs. I saw them on holiday in London but, even though I hadn't come across them before, I could tell they were a fake of a good make iykwim
I wish I'd never seen them. They cost a fortune and were aimed at school kids originally but I really want one
How can I tell, other than the price tag, if they are copies and does anyone know if they are worth the £

eBay do good copies for £20

Parker231 · 23/07/2019 08:29

I’ve a copy from eBay - I can’t tell the difference other than the price. I use it has my work bag and it’s the best I’ve had.

Sandsnake · 23/07/2019 08:38

I’ve got the real thing. I was a bit hesitant as they’re everywhere but couldn’t find something else that I liked as much. I love mine! Fits tons in, despite not looking that big. Sure the copy would be as good, too. Go for it!

Helspopje · 23/07/2019 08:40

The rainbow ones are particularly cool imho
We have minis and normal size in blue and purple

I got a real one but shopped around for voucher codes etc to get the price down. I love it, have used it almost every day for over a year and apart from being a bit marked, it is good as new, no signs of strain or damage.

Sgtmajormummy · 23/07/2019 08:45

I bought a medium and a mini (black with red straps) as summer backpacks for my kids this year. 2 historical cities and a beach holiday in between so they needed to be sturdy.
They’ve stood up well and been comfortable if a bit basic in shape. DC1 nearly threw away the back stiffening/seat pad as it looks like a lump of recycled packaging. I suppose that’s what it is!

I bought them for about €50 for two (special limited time offer) but they took AAAAAAGES to arrive. I blame the postal service in this country and Amazon Prime delivery has changed my expectations of shipping times.
I got them to hopefully be given one on DC1’s birthday and the other for the end of school so ordered them about 10 days before. They took a MONTH. I was even starting to think I’d been scammed...
I’ll find the link for you because in spite of their eco credentials I certainly wouldn’t have paid full price and these are the real thing.

I love Kankens, I have a rucksack and a tote-type handbag that can also be used as a rucksack.

I'd say the only difference between the originals and the knock-offs might be the longevity - mine have put up with years of me chucking them around and still look great, fakes may have different/less hardy fabric. I haven't seen a knock off before though so they might be the same.

ALittleBitAlexis · 23/07/2019 08:47

Also, the official site often has 25-30% off sales and codes, they still aren't cheap but it's worth waiting if you want an original.

VirginiaWolfHall · 23/07/2019 08:50

I have a fake (don’t want to be flamed for it but Kanken backpacks are soooo expensive for what they are IMO) and I can’t tell the difference apart from the inside label is slightly different to my friend’s real one. Other than that - the fabric, embossing, badge etc - it is identical sand cost me a tenner. Whether it lasts or not though...

I bought from the official website and their customer service is excellent
I bought back in August last year for Christmas presents...I know
Never really checked the items other than to make sure all there
2 of the backpacks were kids knees which were too small for my grandsons
I contacted Fjallraven re replacements as was outside returns time limit
They even sent me a pre paid returns label
Items returned and new ones received within a few days

Nanasueathome · 23/07/2019 08:52

Kids ones...not sure where the knees comes into it

BarbaraofSeville · 23/07/2019 09:53

Are you sure those are genuine Sgtmajormummy?

It's just that the prices look suspiciously cheap compared with the claimed RRPs. Most premium brands don't ever discount by more than about 20% at most, unless end of line, but yet they're apparently selling the full range for less than a third of RRP.

It could be that they're very good copies and might be perfectly sturdy bags, after all, about £20 is a reasonable amount of money to sell a cloth backpack for, just not one that's normally priced much higher than that?

But it sounds like the quality is decent, as long as you are happy that they might be fake?

UselessTrees · 23/07/2019 10:04

Uh, that's clearly a fake site, Sgtmajormummy!

whirlwinds · 23/07/2019 10:06

www.fjallraven.co.uk/ the real site. I think reading about the eco-friendly way they are making their products makes me quite keen to buy from them. I like some other brands more but fjallraven is one that has been around for a while now and which I do respect.

ALittleBitAlexis · 23/07/2019 10:07

That site (skmlsnw) definitely looks fake - all the social media links are fake, there's no address or phone number, and legit Kankens are never that cheap. The Whois info also shows that the site was only set up in May of this year, and the same ip address has previously hosted a dodgy-sounding Adidas Yeezy site that no longer exists, among other sites

If you're happy with the bags then that's great, but I wouldn't recommend ordering from the site for security reasons.

Bezalelle · 23/07/2019 10:09

Fake goods are part of a long chain of criminality that also involves drug trafficking and people trafficking. Is that really something you want to be part of? Not to mention breaching the intellectual property of the actual Fjallraven designers.

poorbuthappy · 23/07/2019 10:12

My kids have fallen in love with doughnut backpacks,
I wish they'd fallen in love with Fjallraven. Hmm

Purpletigers · 23/07/2019 10:15

The link above is a fake site . That’s why they will have taken a month to arrive . They’re coming from China .
I’d buy the real thing, shop around for the best price . Sometimes it’s good to treat yourself and if it lasts for years then it’s never a waste of money .

Hippywannabe · 23/07/2019 10:23

I swear we had this exact same thread last year!

Hippywannabe · 23/07/2019 10:28

Just searched. Several similar threads, clearly more popular than I had imagined!

banskuwansku · 23/07/2019 10:33

My parents got Kanken for my 7 year old daughter. We didn't want smiggle etc bags. Dd likes her new back bag and hopefully it will last long. Back in the 80's my friend had that blue kanken and it lasted through her school years.

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/07/2019 10:36

I thought they'd had their day/year tbh so would just buy a fake if I were hankering after one, nobody will be able to tell and it's hardly a status purchase really. They were the mockery of my sisters office last year as everybody had one (middle class hipster type office) and allegedly on more than one occasion people mistakenly picked up another persons bag. As backpacks go they seem fairly handy though if you need something roomy as they are a fair size.

AwdBovril · 23/07/2019 10:39

I've just reported the link posted by Sgtmajormummy, as it's clearly got malware of some kind on the site. Do not open it!

SoupInTheLaundryBag · 23/07/2019 12:00

I have a fake one. The material is stiffer, stitching is poor and I doubt it would last as long as the genuine article.
