What are your best gifts for a man who wants nothing for his birthday...

Man in question is in his late 20 and I'm pretty sure I've exhausted all of the gifts I can possibly think of or that I've seen on Mumsnet over the years that he would either enjoy or use.

He isn't into sport and doesn't enjoy trips/experience day type activities. He has plenty of tech, books and clothes. When I ask what he would like his answer is nothing and since I cannot very well buy him nothing I'm left drawing a huge blank.

I'm looking for something which wouldn't get shoved in a draw or on a shelf and forgotten about. Please help me with any ideas you have had which proved to be a hit.

Cash, for him to fritter at will.

Take him out fir a fancy meal/weekend away.
Cheese/beer/coffee/wine/olive/biscuit subscription

I buy my brother a selection of beers from my local brewery when I draw a blank.

Edible stuff will always get used ime.

Cash, for him to fritter at will.

The problem is he wont spend it on himself, otherwise cash would be the perfect gift. Knowing him he will probably use it buy boring household items or as part of the weekly food shop so it wouldn't feel like much of a present.

Take him out for a nice meal and a few drinks

Alarmclockstop · 22/07/2019 12:20

Sponsor a donkey, give a donation to charity its a waste to buy someone something they don't need.

Sooverthemill · 22/07/2019 12:21

A day at a gallery with nice lunch, tour of an English vineyard, a brewery tour, lunch on a boat, a cinema voucher,

It this man your partner, brother, friend?

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/07/2019 12:23

I should probably have added he doesn't really drink much. Only very occasionally and he hates beer.

The subscription idea is great but I've done similar in the past.

I'm making him sound very dull aren't I. Grin

Please keep the ideas coming I'm grateful for all the help.

Amazon voucher, they come in lovely little box that can be wrapped up like a real present.

Alternately something useful like a donation to a charity. https://www.refuge.org.uk/donate/

Alternatively be glad that he is happy and wants for nothing.

A watch? A tattoo 🙂? Skid pan driving lesson?

KitKat1985 · 22/07/2019 12:30

Weekend away somewhere? Dinner at his favourite restaurant? Cinema membership?

TheBrockmans · 22/07/2019 12:31

Commission a painting of something he likes?

Warmhandscoldheart · 22/07/2019 12:32

Sponsor a Guide dog?

It this man your partner, brother, friend?

Is it embarrassing to admit he's my husband. Blush

Just ask him - if he says nothing, get him nothing. Nothing is both a perfectly reasonable thing to want for your birthday, and a perfectly reasonable gift to give if that's what you're asked for.

Nothing is both a perfectly reasonable thing to want for your birthday, and a perfectly reasonable gift to give if that's what you're asked for.

The trouble is he is saying nothing because he cannot think of something he would like, he doesn't mean don't actually get me a gift.

Theatre tickets for you both, dinner/lunch at somewhere either impressive looking (Shard type thing if you're near London, or similar) or impressive sounding (award winning restaurant) - maybe a tasting menu or similar, afternoon tea, something arty - sculpture (for the garden?) or painting.

Would you both like a pet?

Mylittlepony374 · 22/07/2019 12:48

Give yourself as a gift. My husband still wistfully reminisces about when he came home one Birthday to find me wrapped in a bow, high heels & nothing else. ...
These days he's more likely to get me in my long pjs covered in some kind of sick/baby food/ playdough etc saying the kids are asleep wanna do it real quick before someone wakes up?

FinallyHere · 22/07/2019 12:49

he doesn't mean don't actually get me a gift.

Really ? Sounds a tad selfish. I would want to have a conversation about how best to celebrate his birthday.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/07/2019 12:51

Would you both like a pet?

We have 2 pets already, although I would never buy one for a gift.

The dinner ideas are good but I feel like we've eaten out at most of the places near us over the course of living together and being married. I can have a look to see if there are any that I've missed. Smile

Can’t you just have a nice meal out and some cake instead of a gift? My parents always refuse a gift, so I just send a card and give them a call and they are much happier with this than wasting money on something they don’t want.

escapade1234 · 22/07/2019 12:52

A blow job and you’re done for another year.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/07/2019 12:54

Really ? Sounds a tad selfish.

I don't think its selfish to want or expect a present from your significant other for your birthday. I thought that was a normal part of being in a relationship? He's a complex beasty who just doesn't know what he wants that doesn't mean he shouldn't get a gift.

nomoreusernamesleft · 22/07/2019 13:00

Maybe not for the real present but this may be a funny joke present for him?
