What are your best gifts for a man who wants nothing for his birthday...

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/07/2019 12:04

Man in question is in his late 20 and I'm pretty sure I've exhausted all of the gifts I can possibly think of or that I've seen on Mumsnet over the years that he would either enjoy or use.

He isn't into sport and doesn't enjoy trips/experience day type activities. He has plenty of tech, books and clothes. When I ask what he would like his answer is nothing and since I cannot very well buy him nothing I'm left drawing a huge blank.

I'm looking for something which wouldn't get shoved in a draw or on a shelf and forgotten about. Please help me with any ideas you have had which proved to be a hit.

Has he got one of those little credit card size things to go in his wallet that has mini scissors/tweezers/pen/knife etc? Bought my DH one years ago and he gets loads of use out of it.
If he likes comfy clothes I'd get him a really nice quality hoody (but I'm sure you've thought of that already)
Tickets to the dinosaurs unleashed exhibition at Eden project?

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/07/2019 17:16

Following as in same boat for dh anniversary last week

Hopefully you find some great inspiration.

Some of these ideas are so good that we've either actually already got them or done them. I'm impressed at how on the right page/wavelength some posters have been so far. I've added a few ideas to a list for either myself or another time but appreciate all the help so far. Grin

I got an escape room for all 12 family for dh 65th birthday
He loved it
Sent him up in a glider over n york hills for another
Jet ski and paragliding for another
£100 bottle of whisky for another
A private track where he could drive would be another because he’s not allowed to drive anymore
There’s s brewery nearby I might organise a trip there if they do gluten free beer

Marvellous ran out of ideas

You mean a wallet ninja! This is possibly the best gift I've ever brought him in terms of use. It was so popular I've slowly given one to most of the men and some of the women in my life and now about 70% of the people I know have one. I would thoroughly recommend for anyone who hasn't purchased one yet.

We’ve ran out of ideas.
No it’s not marvellous

We might have a stay st the ritz
That would be Christmas, birthdays and anniversary in one

Vesperia · 22/07/2019 17:21

what's your budget?

Baddaboom · 22/07/2019 17:23

I had no idea it was called a wallet ninja but good name for it! I am forever saying "can I borrow your little tweezers/scissors/pen"...he has certainly had his use out of it and he's had it a good few years now.
I do think a cookery class might be a good idea as others have mentioned, there are cookery schools all over the place now. I also think experiences are better than "stuff".

Chewbecca · 22/07/2019 17:23

Has he got one of those rings you can pay with?

a hubsan drone

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 22/07/2019 17:32

I have this with dh

Hits this year have been

Really decent pair of pyjamas
Paul smith underwear & socks
Tour of his football team
Personalised Gin

BonnesVacances · 22/07/2019 17:35

Can you take him out for a meal at a Michelin star restaurant with a tasting menu a la Fat Duck? Make it into a weekend with a night in a hotel, if you have to travel to it.

Failing that, it was established on the Christmas threads that all men really want is an updated/newer/better version of what they have already. Is there anything that fits that criteria?

shookennotstirred · 22/07/2019 17:36

Toilet twinning. You sponsor a toilet somewhere it's needed in the world and you get a framed photo of it.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/07/2019 17:39

what's your budget?

No budget really. Its doesn't have to be expensive just as long as it is something he will like. Smile

I also think experiences are better than "stuff".

Me too but he really doesn't enjoy these type of activity days. I've tried in the past.

The dinosaur parkour is pretty amusing to watch although I'm not sure I would trust him to take part and not break one or several bones. Grin

What writers does he like?

Weekend away abroad? Perhaps something different to what you would normally do? City, countryside, etc

Something you will have made yourself?

Or just make a big donation to a charity whose cause he supports?

DragonglassHeart · 22/07/2019 17:45

Jurassic parkour! Grin Thank you, I really needed a laugh.

A Victorinox Swiss Army knife
One of those egg/pod BBQ oven things
Le Crueset pans
Chef's blowtorch
Robot hoover/mop/lawnmower

chestadrawas · 22/07/2019 17:45

Unlimited card / annual pass to local cinema?
Cooking class or weekend away at cook school
BBQ if you have a garden, plus BBQ tools
Sunglasses
Sonos or Alexa type speaker
Speaker for TV
Headphones or AirPods

My DH likes cooking and he's had several different cook school vouchers, spicery subscription, bread maker, pasta maker (we're all getting fat!), spiky carving tray with carving knife and fork, new wok with Chinese cook book

Her0utdoors · 22/07/2019 17:55

If he says he doesn't want anything, why get him anything?

ShagMeRiggins · 22/07/2019 17:57

As he has to dress smartly for work, a gift voucher to have his colours and/or personal style analysed. I’ve never met a man who didn’t love it, and didn’t feel great about himself afterward.

In lieu of that, a subscription to Netflix for the movies he loves, or tickets to the London or local film festival.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/07/2019 18:02

This is why I love Mumsnet I wasn't aware that was even a thing? Where would you go for such a service and what do they do?

Robot hoover/mop/lawnmower

I would love a robot hoover but our 2 pets hate the hoover at the best of times I cant imagine they would be best pleased sharing their home with such an invention. Grin

HeadsDown go google House of Colour for your local consultant (or those in the vicinity), I know they do it as that’s where my husband had his done (my gift to him).

There’s also Colour Me Beautiful (I don’t know whether they provide services for men), and you can always search for ‘men’s colour analysis and personal style).

Have fun. It’s fab.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 22/07/2019 18:44

Have fun. It’s fab.

I will certainly take a look I'm not sure my husband would appreciate it but I certainly know others who might like the experience.

Its so useful when someone comes up with stuff you have never heard or thought of and which no amount of googling would have enabled you to stumble across. Thanks again for all the great ideas so far. If you have any other thoughts feel free to post. I find these sort of threads can be useful to lots of posters especially as so many have replied saying they also have difficulty shopping for their significant others. Grin

Drone
Cookery class
Escape room experience
I got DH a bonsai tree which he loved, and a grape vine one year.

TigerJoy · 22/07/2019 19:18

My DH is the same so we always get experiences for each other. One year a weekend in Paris - if that's not in your budget, a night in a hotel? Or some other experience - riding a Ferrari at a race track? Cooking course.

Or if it's hard to get his friends together, organise a surprise birthday party so they all get together for him.

Nice things he wouldn't treat himself to - nice shaving stuff e.g. fancy cream with a brush. Nice wallet. Books. Silly gift based on a running joke.

daisyboocantoo · 22/07/2019 19:21

What about a few treats from lovehoney?
