I will be mortified, we’re going away as a group and although I’ve always been big, I think I’m a bit heavier right now than other times I’ve flown. I’m scared. Tell me it will be ok please 🙏

There are extensions available, you'll be fineSmile

wowfudge · 21/07/2019 09:30

The crew can give you an extender.

Tamsyn143 · 21/07/2019 09:31

I'm currently abroad and I sat next to a lady on the flight who had purchased a seat belt extender from amazon !!

CherieBabySpliffUp · 21/07/2019 09:31

How long is it until you fly? Do you have time to go on a diet to lose some weight?

toomuchfaster · 21/07/2019 09:31

How big are you? Have you looked at the website for measurements? I can't tell you it will be ok, but you can look for the info to know whether it will be or not.

dementedpixie · 21/07/2019 09:34

How big are you? I'm 16 stone and the easyjet belt fitted fine when I flew last week

isitsummeryet1 · 21/07/2019 09:35

My aunt is very overweight. The flight crew did offer her an extender, but the issue was over the person sitting next to her, who had half their seat taken up by my aunt. As the person in the next seat wasn't prepared to be squashed for 5 hours (who would blame them), my aunt either had to pay for another seat or be offloaded. She had to pay.

I would seriously look at the restrictions of the seat size before you board the plane, taking into account people around you. My aunt was in excess of 30 stones though, which I accept is very very big.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/07/2019 09:36

I’m 16.11, I carry my weight on my bottom half so trousers are a size 20/22. I’m doing slimming world have have lost weight, almost 2 stone, but have less than a month to go now.

When I was 7 stone heavier I used to very quietly ask an attendant as I boarded. They were always massively discrete and would drop one quietly to me

Unlike en route to Mexico when I realised after take off that my seat was damp. I buzzed an attendant who made SUCH a loud fuss. Acted like I’d done it so I’m sure everyone thought I’d wee’d myself

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/07/2019 09:37

I won’t spill in to the seat next to me. I’ll be sitting with my family anyway, probably dd.

I'm a size 22 bottom and I had absolutely no trouble flying to Mallorca this week x

isitsummeryet1 · 21/07/2019 09:40

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat you're no way too big for the aeroplane then! Stop worrying and try enjoy the flight. And don't be worried about what other people think either - there are obviously lots and lots of bigger people who board planes! My uncle, who was with my aunt, was 24 stone and didn't have to pay for the extra seat.

PinkBuffalo · 21/07/2019 09:40

I had a friend who worked as an attendant years ago. He said no big deal just ask one of them for a seatbelt extender and they will provide one to you. He said they never thought anything of it as they did it all the time and safer than not wearing a seatbelt. Hope that makes you feel better Smile

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 21/07/2019 09:48

I had to ask for an extender when I was about your size, it really depends on the plane, some are better than others. What I do is as soon as I'm seated I check if it's going to fit and if not when any cabin crew walk past I ask them for one so it's all sorted nice and early and I dont start to panic. The first time I needed one I got really upset for various stupid reasons but the crew were lovely and told me it happens all the time and not to let it ruin my flight, they were quite right.

dottiedodah · 21/07/2019 09:51

As others have said .Seatbelt extenders are avaliable on board .Our friend purchased one online ,round about the £10.00 mark I think. Dont worry you wont be the only one Im sure ,Just relax and enjoy your holiday!

Bananallama858 · 21/07/2019 09:53

Just ask for an extension seatbelt as you board. Most airlines won’t allow you to use your own so wouldn’t follow advise of buying one from amazon. It’s nothing to worry about and most crew are very discrete.

AntisocialMedia · 21/07/2019 09:56

The world is getting fatter. I think planes, trains etc will need refurbishing soon otherwise everyone will need extenders

flumpybear · 21/07/2019 10:03

Is it Ryan Air you're flying with as they have smaller belts - I usually squish into them just (big tummy 18/20 trousers ) didn't have problems with other airlines

Yogagirl123 · 21/07/2019 10:04

They will offer you a seat belt extender, don’t worry about it OP.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/07/2019 10:05

Feeling a bit better, thanks!

I’m flying with TUI, hopefully they aren’t too tiny.

Well done on your weight loss OP

Timandra · 21/07/2019 10:07

my aunt either had to pay for another seat or be offloaded. She had to pay.

Why didn't they just sit her next to an empty seat if there was one available?

I have to have one every so often, depending on plane. I normally ask when I get on then if I need it I've got it. Dont book extra legroom apart from front row as you can't sit there if you need an extender. Also don't take your own as the crew need to know who has one.
It's not ideal to have one, I hate it! Not enough to actually lose weight though apparently.
Enjoy your trip

Antisocial, you've named yourself well. What a horrid post

Georgie ignore this spite- it's just an online troll, 99% of us don't think like this.

Congrats on weight loss, and hope you have a lovely holiday.
