If I was 6.5 stone when I was 21.....

Is it physically possible to get back to that weight now that I’m 38, have had a child and have been fat for the last 10 years?!

This is light hearted pondering rather than a real life aim by the way, because I have now discovered wine and cake and life’s too short.

For extra info, I am now 11 stone at 5ft 2 (so fat) - my boobs alone are a G cup - and up until I was about 23 I was always between 5.5 and 7 stone. I just can’t imagine being that small ever again even though it was my normal back then?

Is it physically possible or does your body just change shape / density or something?!

I hope you find a path to a slender and not underweight size again. There seems to be lots of ways to do it, but you have to be brave to keep trying even if some of the things you try don't work quickly.

Unless you develop an eating disorder I don't think it's possible, I think having children changes your body. I was 6st 10 for most of my teens/early 20's - am 5ft. After 3 children crept up to about 9st. 2 years ago I did slimming world and got back down to 7st 10. I was really happy with this as felt great, but was so hard to maintain, no way I could have got an lower. Sadly it's all gone back on, but am gonna start again and aim for 8st.

Ahh, I remember those teenage days, I was a size 4/5 in jeans, and around six stone in weight. I looked good though, had boobs! I am less than 5' tall though.

I'm about a stone overweight now, I tend to be about 8 1/2 stone so need to do something about it. If I was as thin now as I was then I think I'd look very old.

bumblenbean · 21/07/2019 19:24

It’s odd how drastically we can change size/shape. I was 7 stone from about age 16 to early 20’s. Now age 36 having had two DC’s within a year I’m pushing 12.5 stone 😱

To be fair I have never had a v healthy diet (except as a child) but when I was young it appears my metabolism was enough to stave off any weight gain. I ate whatever I wanted and never did much exercise. People often commented on how thin I was and I smugly thought I was just lucky. I couldn’t put on weight even if I wanted to. Maybe that was because my parents fed us a healthy diet so that set me up well ?

Sadly it appears the same lifestyle cannot be followed forevermore without consequences! I think if I put my mind to it I could get to about 10 stone and still have some treats but I am terrible at dieting. I am v unhappy with my current size, so will have to do something - but in answer to your question I think it would be virtually impossible to get back to that original weight unless I literally starved myself - and as others say I would probably look awful.

I do think some people who ate as much crap as I do would be even bigger, so I suppose I’m still ‘lucky’ in some respects although it won’t be doing my health any good!

If only I could reach a happy medium 🤦‍♀️

I was 7st at 23, (5ft tall), went abroad to work, and put on 12lb in 3 months! Must have been happier.
Weighed about 8st when I married at 27, and now (several, many many years later) 9st 3lb. Would like to lose half a stone, but it's never going to happen.

Beautiful3 · 22/07/2019 09:33

I think through healthy eating and exercise you could lose a couple of stone, if you want to. As you get older it feels harder to lose the weight as the metabolism slows down, but it's doable. You don't need to be 7 stone again, I imagine the regime to maintain would be difficult. But 9 stone would allow you treats and occasional meals out. I'm the same height as you I've crept from 9.7 to 12 stone. I've lost a stone since january so I'm now 11 stone and still aiming for 9.7 weight. My body seems to have lost it's tone, jiggly belly after 2 babies still but weight loss is achievable.

When my great aunt weighed 6 and a half stone and my friend too they both were skin and bone.
They were both 5 feet 2 ins

You need some fat to keep you looking youthful

Anothertempusername · 22/07/2019 09:41

I was 8 stone at 5'2 (during a really really shit life patch; 10 stone now and happy!!) and a size 4-6. 5.5 stone is surely extremely underweight, dangerously so?

Dowser · 22/07/2019 09:42

New mom of 1 I’m 5 feet 6 and weigh around 11 st
I’d like to be 10 st again

I don’t get weighed..my weight fluctuates too much with the heat
If my legs were swollen I could be 3-4 lbs heavier just with that alone

BonAccordSpur · 22/07/2019 09:48

@Ensign..thats totally me..always a good2stone heavier than 'ideal' even when i used to run9ks 5x a week i was still 10.5stone&size 10 at 5.6..so i cant imagine 5.5 stone -never known anyone that small other than a (couple of competing anorexics at uni)..maybe a 8 year old kid but a healthy adult?seems a bitE.D

IceniSky · 22/07/2019 09:53

I was 6.10 until my 30s(under 5 foot) but now 41 I am 8 stone and think I finally have to take action. I want to drop to 7.4 but I can be 7.9 one day, then 8 a few days later.

Those few extra pounds on my small frame really show.

Suebnm · 22/07/2019 09:59

This isn't the same but it is definitely possible.

I was around 7 stone in my 20's and then 12 stone for 25 years and now I am 6 stone again.

It isn't the same because I am tube fed now and wasn't then. My doctors are happy with me at that weight although 'officially underweight'. It is an interesting point though, maybe?

NamelessCreature · 22/07/2019 10:03

You would probably look terrible at that weight, a little old wizened crone. Just look at Celine Dion recently

twirlypoo · 22/07/2019 10:44

That’s the thing - I totally can’t imagine being that weight now, yet I was for donkeys years, so why does it seem so bananas to me now?! To be 9 stone is a pipe dream these days Grin

I feel it would be possible to shed some of the weight, however all of it, not sure as we naturally get bigger hips etc after giving birth. Have a look at Body fx. I follow their diet and do the excersises. It's fun if you love dancing like I do and even if you don't you could love to learn it? I am not one of their reps but if you send me pm I can give you details to their FB group so you can see the results. Lots of energy in the group and people like you and I 😁
