If I was 6.5 stone when I was 21.....

Is it physically possible to get back to that weight now that I’m 38, have had a child and have been fat for the last 10 years?!

This is light hearted pondering rather than a real life aim by the way, because I have now discovered wine and cake and life’s too short.

For extra info, I am now 11 stone at 5ft 2 (so fat) - my boobs alone are a G cup - and up until I was about 23 I was always between 5.5 and 7 stone. I just can’t imagine being that small ever again even though it was my normal back then?

Is it physically possible or does your body just change shape / density or something?!

Did no one see the part where she said she was idly wondering and not planning a diet because of cake and wine?

Karmin · 21/07/2019 09:44

www.height-weight-chart.com/502-090.html

Looks like an appropriate weight, yes you could do it, it would be tough. Maintenance would be the key as your body remembers how to be that weight.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 21/07/2019 09:46

It's not "an appropriate weight" at 5'2". 6 and a half stone is BMI 16. 5 and a half is BMI 14. Anything under 18.5 is clinically underweight.

LeeScoresbysBalloon · 21/07/2019 09:46

I’ve been wondering this myself. I’m 5’6”, in my late teens to mid 20s I was 7-8.5stone and a size 6-8. I gradually got bigger and now, 6 months postpartum and at 33 yo I’m 13stone and a size 14. I wonder if it’s possible for me to ever be that slim again.

ColinKnocksTwoPence · 21/07/2019 09:49

I don't think a BMI of under 17 is something you want to hope for but a low healthy weight of 7 stone 7 pounds ish is quite achievable.
I'm only 5' but when I was in my 40s my weight crept up to over 10 stone. I felt like a balloon.
A few years ago I dieted down to 8 stone and last year I got down to 6 stone 12 pounds. For the past year I have maintained at 7 stone and I really appreciate the extra energy it has given me and my joints don't ache any more.
If I were you I would aim for about 8 stone and see what you look like then.

Soola · 21/07/2019 09:53

As an adult pre children I never weighed more than 7 stone. I’m 5’6”.

I’ve never put on enough weight to become fat though, other than a little bit each time I was pregnant and then I lost that weight ASAP.

But over time I have increased in size and I’m in my fifties and am never heavier than 8 and a half stone max.

Any heavier and I would absolutely hate it but between 8 and 8 and a half stone puts enough flesh on my face, bottom and bust, which looks better on me than if I look too thin and gaunt.

I suggest you aim for similar as at 11 stone it should be easy for you to drop two stone to 8 stone.

AxCap · 21/07/2019 09:57

I wonder this too but think it's pretty tough and unsustainable. I'm 32, 2dc (youngest 14 months), the fittest I've ever been and hitting PBs on weights but I cannot get under 8st at 5'2. I feel 'wider' then before DC2 came along and nothing seems to change that.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/07/2019 10:43

7 stone and 5 foot 6 is a BMI if 15.5
That is seriously underweight
I think threads like this border in dangerous

FrangipaniBlue · 21/07/2019 10:47

@LeeScoresbysBalloon I'm same height as you and in my teens/up to 21 I was a 8 stone size 6/8 - from 21 up to around 31 I ballooned, by the time I became pregnant with DS at 27 I was already a 14 stone size 18.

I'm now 38 and an 11 stone size 12 - so YES you can be slim again!!

Don't get me wrong, it's tough, I walk 10,000 steps a day minimum and do minimum 1hr exercise every day, I'm not obsessive about what I eat but I am careful and I try to avoid snacks.

and to the OP, yes it is doable to be the size you want, but it would mean a complete lifestyle change and it will be extremely tough to get there and will be tough to maintain....... if I put my mind and energy into it I could get back to being a size 8 like I was age 18 but honestly, the effort it would take I just don't think is worth it 🤷🏻‍♀️

NerrSnerr · 21/07/2019 10:49

I'm 5ft1 and when I was 18 I was a size 6 and weighed about 7.5 stone. I now weigh about 10 stone and do feel huge. I'm currently losing weight after children and initially want to get to 9 stone and then see how I feel and whether I want to lose more.

Missillusioned · 21/07/2019 10:50

You've probably got more muscle than you did at 21. Muscle is heavier than fat for the same size. So to be as light you'd have to lose muscle, which isn't something to aim for.

LeeScoresbysBalloon · 21/07/2019 10:56

@FrangipaniBlue I think that’s my problem at the moment, the lack of walking. When I’m working I easily walk 10k steps a day, but on maternity leave it’s hard to get those steps in every day. Plus being at home with a baby makes it very easy to mindlessly snack!

At 5 foot 2, you would need to be between 7 stone 4 and 9 stone 10 to have a "healthy" bmi. At 6 stone 5 you would be seriously underweight and probably severely malnourished.

ColinKnocksTwoPence would you mind sharing what type of diet/exercise you did?

starzig · 21/07/2019 12:24

6.5 stone at 5ft 2 is only fractionally underweight.

twirlypoo · 21/07/2019 12:31

Oh god, I’m sorry - I posted this and then went out for breakfast and forgot about it! Which is why I’m 11 stone and not how I used to be Grin

It was a musing rather than a desire, don’t worry! Like is it even physically possible?! It would be nearly half my weight to lose. I’m sure my boobs alone are a few stone!

OP posts:
twirlypoo · 21/07/2019 12:32

Oh, and I was 6.5 - 7 stone as normal, but if I was stressed or rushing about, or just didn’t eat properly for a few days I would drop to 5.5 stone. IT’S MENTAL!!!!!!

I look at cake now and put on 7lbs!

OP posts:
hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/07/2019 12:33

It's over half a stone lighter than the lowest weight judged to be healthy
It's a BMI of 16.5
But yeah great it's just a smidge underweight Hmm

Soola · 21/07/2019 12:33

This website is brilliant -

www.mybodygallery.com/

You can put in your statistics and see how we are all different shapes even if we look the same on paper.

It also helps if you find someone similar as you can then see what other people see and not just what you imagine when you look in the mirror.

cheesenpickles · 21/07/2019 12:37

I was about 7 stone at 21 and small frames (with big boobs). Over the years the weight has crept on till I was, at my heaviest, 15.5 stone Blush. I've been following it and now I'm currently at 12.7 stone and aiming to keep going. I've got a weight in mind and people have bailed at it but it's a fluid goal (about 9 stone). I think it's feasible BUT you will certainly not look as it did back then.

cheesenpickles · 21/07/2019 12:38

*baulked even

twirlypoo · 21/07/2019 12:40

I took my old metabolism very much for granted!

I’d love to be about 9.5 stone now I think.... but I’m very lazy and would still like to drink wine so I’m not sure it will ever happen!

Ooh I’ll have a look at that website @Soola it looks really interesting, thank you!

newmomof1 · 21/07/2019 12:46

Wow at 10 I was already 6.5stone and haven't been less than 9.5 for my whole adult life (I'm 5ft 6").

But I'd say if you're a G cup chances are pretty slim.
My step mom had a double mastectomy (she was a FF) and they weighed a stone!
