Salt and vinegar crisps

What's happened to these lately? I've had bag from multi packs from a few different supermarkets (own brand) plus a single bag of walkers the other day - and none of them have any flavour at all! Could always rely on Lidl for a pack of really strong ones but no, theirs are devoid of flavour too!

Where can I go for some proper crisps!!

I love the way there’s a mound of powder in the bottom of discos bags!

Blobby10 · 21/07/2019 08:06

I am currently conducting an experiment to find the best s&v crisps 😁😁so far Morrison’s own brand are in the lead! Closely followed by tesco . These are the ‘hand cut/cooked’ ones btw 😁

Sainsbury’s Taste the difference are good. Despite being a NI girl, I don’t rate Tayto s&v.

The Co OP posh ones are really strong. Dh is a s&v fan but says the coop ones are too strong for him.

A colleague at work had s&v squares the other day, offered me one - now that was strong!

Penguincity · 21/07/2019 08:11

Another vote for the co-op ones, haven't had them in a while, may need to make a visit today

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2019 08:12

@isabellerossignol - we went to NI at Easter and brought back 36 bags of Tayto crisps for DS’s friend’s dad.

WhiteDust · 21/07/2019 08:19

I long for cheese and onion walkers from the '70s/'80s.
No idea what they have done to them but they taste awful now. Horrible strong taste (I can't even describe it) What HAVE they done?

coffeeagogo · 21/07/2019 08:33

Square crisps are my go-to for salt and vinegar tangyness- also co-op posh salt and vinegar. My mouth is literally watering....

DaisyChainsGetBroken · 21/07/2019 08:44

Mccoys

EvePolastrisFace · 21/07/2019 08:46

Coop, or salt and vinegar flavarings. They're fucking incredible. I got one of those lumps of flavouring the other day, where is just crazy s&v stuff. I nearly came.

worriedandannoyed · 21/07/2019 08:52

Thanks everyone, I guess I'll be getting my crisps from the co-op from now on! I love the Aldi big bags but have a tendency to eat the whole bag so try to buy the small ones. I love discos too but hate the other flavours, when I see the multi packs of just salt and vinegar I always get a couple

S&V crisp sandwiches are my fave 'treat' food! Grin

RedSheep73 · 21/07/2019 08:58

The Kettle Chips salt and vinegar are really strong - too strong for me

S&V crisps take me back to the mid 90s, when DP and I first lived together. I had a packet of S&V Discos that had massive lumps of flavouring in the bottom of the pack.

He dared me to eat it all which I did. TBH I'm amazed I had any taste buds left after that experience .

Not touched S&V since!

EvePolastrisFace · 21/07/2019 09:06

@Horsemad me too. But peanut butter and s&v.

nitgel · 21/07/2019 09:07

Our Poundland have smiths crisps. The taste like the did in the 70s. The salt and vinegar are the best ones I've tasted for years.

EssentialHummus · 21/07/2019 09:22

Signing up to try Coop! Lidl posh ones are the best I’ve tried recently or - slightly obscure - if you can get to a South African food shop the Simba brand is very good.

Oblomov19 · 21/07/2019 09:46

Makes note to try co-op ones!

AwkwardSquad · 21/07/2019 09:51

Team Co-op! My sister introduced me to this, they are the best.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 21/07/2019 21:28

Another coop vote here (now going to have to stockpile as worried this thread will cause a shortage.)

Mustbetimeforachange · 21/07/2019 21:34

Anyone else have a mouthful of saliva now?

FenellaMaxwell · 21/07/2019 21:37

100% coop!

KronksSpinachPuffs · 21/07/2019 21:39

Sainsburys own salt and vinegar chip sticks are the best (the bug sharing bags)

They're really vinegary and make my top lip sweat 😂

KronksSpinachPuffs · 21/07/2019 21:39

Big sharing bags* I should say!
