If you could go back in time as a visitor for a day when you would go back to and why?

Would you just observe or would you do something which would alter the course of history ?

I fancy a trip back to Victorian times, to observe. But I don't think I'd interfere. And I'd be glad to get home again afterwards...

Pleasebequietnow · 19/07/2019 08:13

I would like to go back and use billet proof glass to protect Archduke Franz Ferdinand. I’m sure WW1 would happen anyway, but it would be interesting to see.

LoseLooseLucy · 19/07/2019 08:14

I'd like a look at Henry V111, in his prime. Probably when he was married to Anne Boleyn.

Reallybadidea · 19/07/2019 08:14

I think I'd go back to when my grandparents were young adults (second world War era). I'd like to see what they were like before they were my grandparents iyswim and get to experience the world that shaped their lives.

Babdoc · 19/07/2019 08:17

I’d go back to first century Israel to meet Jesus. Standing in the presence of God incarnate would be overwhelming.

SummerPlace · 19/07/2019 08:19

Ancient Rome, probably during the reigns of Augustus or Vespasian.

Janglyearrings · 19/07/2019 08:25

I would go back to tell my 10 year old self that I was going to be just fine. That bullying stops, that I would be loved one day. That I was not a failure then and wasn’t going to be a failure in the future.

whatthewhatthewhat · 19/07/2019 08:28

I'd go back to the last huge euro lotto draw and give myself the numbers! 🤣

Or, to see how the universe came into creation.

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 19/07/2019 08:33

I like to go back to when titanic was built. I would advise them, more life boats are necessity despite what they think about having room on decks. I'm so fascinated by titanic I don't know why!!!!

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 19/07/2019 08:34

Oops sorry about the typo I 'would'

isitwhatitis · 19/07/2019 09:00

I wondered about going to back to just before WW2 and getting rid of Hitler, I wonder how world history would have played out without him?

My DS (doing history GCSE) reckons Stalin would be a better one to eliminate.

I'd love to go back in time, but only if I could be invisible as well, so I could actually change a few things which are having incredibly detrimental effects right now.

And personally I'd go back and tell myself to "run" when one particular boyfriend appeared in my life for the first time....

TheFaerieQueene · 19/07/2019 09:33

I would go back to when my DF was well, he has recently died from complications due to dementia, and tell him I love him one more time.

EcocabbyRickShaw · 19/07/2019 09:35

Call me shallow, but I'd go back to my time at sixth form college, just because it was the very best time in my life. And I'd just keep re-running those two years Grin

I’d go back to midnight August 9th, 1969 to 10050 Cielo Drive, Benedict Canton, L.A.

I would be armed and would save the lives of Sharon Tate and her unborn child named posthumously as Paul Richard Polanski, Steven Parent, Jay Sebring, Wojiciech Frokowski and Abigail Folger.

Love how this thread is a mix of daft, poignant and downright pious replies!

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 19/07/2019 10:03

@LoseLooseLucy he was probably more in his prime when married to Catherine of Aragon. He was about 42 when he married Anne. But I'd love to go back to tudor times.

I'd be torn... if there was a way to go back and stop World War 2 and the holocaust I'd do it in a heartbeat but then I think of the advancements made by science, medicine and tech off the back of WW2 and wonder how far behind we would be now if I stopped it all.

I'd like to see if Jesus was real, see what happened to Marilyn Monroe and, most importantly, go back and tell my 11 year old self not to get fat Grin

Anyone intrigued by the idea of going back in time to change the course of history might enjoy 11.22.63 by Stephen King. Very long, but worth it IMHO.

Cailleach · 19/07/2019 10:23

I would want to watch the Chicxulub meteor hitting the earth.

From a safe vantage point in space, obviously!

isitwhatitis · 19/07/2019 10:59

FaerieQueene Flowers

My personal one would be very similar.

Seconded. I read the book then watched the TV series with james Franco. Really enjoyed both of them.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 19/07/2019 11:46

@Reallybadidea I LOVE that book!!!
