Stepping out - doesn't anybody just "go out" any more?
Blasting/Slamming - maybe just disagreeing with?
Flaunting

I know they're all normal words/expressions but, given journalists work with words, it all seems a bit cliched/lazy to me.

"Common law wife/husband" yes! Perpetuating the myth that common law marriage exists in uk!

'"Hard working families/tax payer'.
'Hand outs' (when talking about benefits,particularly sick/disability benefits)." Yep hate those too.

"BBC and the Guardian for this one - "child prostitute"." Just what I was coming on to say - except they aren't the only culprits! See also "underage sex workers" - as if that's better?! NO! They are "sexually abused children" - words matter!

You're right, Graphista: words have a power and do get used without much thought, often.

This isn't as serious a point but I knew a doctor who (jokingly) said he yearned to get into the tabloids in a scandal because, inevitably, he'd be described as "Top Doc".
If it were less scandalous, he felt he'd be demoted to "Medic" ☹

The description Baby Bump or flaunting a baby bump ... er no she is just walking along minding her own business.
Giving a article title then immediately under and before the article starts giving a couple of words summarising what you have just read in the title.Pointless.

There was a really weird bit of journalism in the Daily Mail a while ago (don't judge me : it was a free copy in a cafe and I can't stand not having something to read).
They were cross with John Major about something (not being adequately thrilled about Brexit, iirc). First all, they described him "wagging his pudgey finger"... does the size of his fingers matter?
Then, when he'd used the word "poked" (can't remember the context), commented on the "irony" of him using that word after having had an affair with Edwina Currie.

It obviously made a great impression on me since I still remember it. It was one of the childish pieces in a "newspaper" I've ever read.

I'm confused. What happens to all the celebrity daughters named Joy ? We're always seeing the headline "Baby Joy For X" sleb but then they turn out to be called Suri or North.
