Hairy hooha

Now I don't mind a bit o fluff down below, but Jesus! I have a bikini line that is attempting an assault on my knees. I need help!

I've got a couple of holidays coming up in the next few weeks, one is with my fooking gorgeous cousin, who is tall, glamorous and just seemingly hairless!

So how do I do this? My short hairy legs and stubbly armpits I can shave daily, no problem. But my bikini line? I have tried shaving - good for two days then agony! The regrowth!! Pimples, rash, ingrown hairs, the works. Veet cream had a similar result, all good and silky smooth at first, then rash-central. Waxing a no-no. My pain threshold is zero.

I have in the past worn boyleg swimsuits to hide the offending fluff (or the resulting rash), but everyone know what I'm trying to hide. Surely surely there is something I can do, so that I'llbe able to wear a sexy swimsuit on my hols?

Any ideas Mumsnutters?

Get a professional wax.

Anotherbloodyname123 · 18/07/2019 00:59

If you're not willing to shave, use removal cream or wax, then there isn't much you can do . If however you ARE willing to try an actual hair removal method that will probably help.

Board shorts.
I live in seaside town and live in board shorts in and out of the water regardless of whether I've waxed or not. I've got some nice ones from Roxy, they're not short short but not blokey long ones either.

With waxing, it really helps if you avoid the week before your period. Also, 2 ibuprofen taken about half an hour before your appointment reduce the pain and will lessen any bruising.

With shaving, try going with the grain, rather than against. OK, you won't feel silky smooth but you'll look it.

Whether you choose to shave or wax, there's this marvellous lotion called Tend Skin, which really helps with ingrown hairs and shaving rash. It's around £8 on Ebay, however I'm willing to bet someone here will know of a cheaper alternative.

RainbowMum11 · 18/07/2019 01:24

Try a high leg wax to begin with - just sorts the edges out without being dramatic, and will help you get used to it in case you decide to be more adventurous in future.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/07/2019 01:38

Not now obviously, but lasering. Too late for this holiday.

TruthOnTrial · 18/07/2019 08:32

Electrolysis has been my saviour!

Immediate, painless, and long lasting. Dont try any hair removal method within a week of your period (or even ideally in the 2nd half), and take pain relief beforehand.

Get it done professionally, it cauterises the capilliary so killing off the supply to regrow, and the hair lifts out.

With any hair removal do regular exfoliating to stop hairs being trapped.

Good luck, and have a great holiday, and please love who you are, ignore cousins looks, just enjoy her company.

How have you made it to adulthood without figuring this out??

Dec2019mumtobe · 18/07/2019 08:37

I use a Gillette razor with bikini trimmer on the end. It was £8 from amazon. I can find the name if you need. It's like a small pair of hair clippers. I basically give my foof a "grade 0" all over and it takes a few minutes. Hair is not completely gone but vvvv short. Good enough for covering with bikini bottoms! It doesn't grow back quickly, no ingrown hairs etc. Then I just razor off anything extras that might be visible down the sides when bikini bottoms are on.

How have you made it to adulthood without figuring this out?? What a kind and helpful comment Hmm

MumUndone · 18/07/2019 08:40

Mimi not everyone is blessed with skin that looks flawless after hair removal! I wax my bikini line but get ingrown hairs etc. so it doesn't look great, though better than shaving or hair removal cream - and even as an adult, I still haven't 'worked this out'.

TruthOnTrial · 18/07/2019 09:21

How nasty mimi

Why post exactly, just to feel superior that you had this all sorted out by the time you reached adulthood and shame on any that are struggling with it? Lovely.

Beauticians. Get a hot wax bikini wax. Not strip wax.

Hot wax is gentler. Still hurts a bit. But less so than strip wax. Just get a basic bikini wax nothing crazy like a Hollywood.

I tried to wax my own once and it was agony. To the point I had to get dh to whip the wax strip off. And then just left the rest

My beautician gets me to hold the skin taught and she does the waxing. Helps with the ouch! Redness fades usually after a few hours.

Plaits with coloured beads to match your bikini!!

gokartdillydilly · 18/07/2019 09:48

Plaits! Haha! Perfect solution! Thanks everyone, it seems I either have to 'woman up' and challenge my pain threshold with a hot bikini line wax, or stay covered up. Board shorts and a tankini top may be for me this year.

And, to the pp who wonders how I've got to my age without figuring this out, like I said if you RTFP I have tried all the usual remedies with painful, unsuccessful and unsightly results. In recent years I have just resorted to covering up instead.

I was just wondering if any helpful people had any newer ideas so that I don't have to keep myself covered all the time. It is quite a humiliating issue for me, actually. Thank you to everyone else for your input - I have ideas now plaitsandbeads Grin

Or if you don’t fancy plaits and beads just dye the hair the same colour as bikini. 😂

aposterhasnoname · 18/07/2019 11:12

Get a wax, then have it done every six weeks or so. Not much help now, but after a few sessions the pain gets less, and you’ll not have this problem again next year.

PurpleGlitter1983 · 18/07/2019 11:34

Just leave it hairy and enjoy your hols. You'll feel liberated!

AwkwardSquad · 18/07/2019 11:39

Board shorts or tankini, and stop caring what other people think. Enjoy the time you’re saving by not depilating yourself, and do something more fun.

AwkwardSquad · 18/07/2019 11:43

I know it’s a lot easier said than done to stop caring what other people think, btw. Just trying to help you feel less socially pressured. I’m totally investing in board shorts myself, cannot be bothered with the faff and expense, but not brave enough to let it all hang out.

UnaCorda · 18/07/2019 11:43

Trim it?

Waffle12 · 18/07/2019 11:46

I would go with hot wax at a salon aswell.

In the long run though-if you can afford it-I would really recommend laser hair removal. I had to save up but it was honestly one of the best things I have ever spent money on!! Make sure you go to a good salon-see if anyone has any recommendations. You can get individual top ups if u need them after the initial course, as not every single hair may be eliminated in the course if treatment due to the growth cycles. But I found that any that do come through now are softer and lighter and much easier to get rid of with a razor without any ingrown hairs or anything.

I also had my underarms done-although I didnt finish the course of 6 unfortunately as found out I was pregnant. But even with half the recommended number of treatments on my underarms there is a massive difference -hairs are much softer, sparce and slower growing, and a quick flick of the razor once a week gets rid of them with no dark stubble mark I used to get.

dementedpixie · 18/07/2019 11:49

I use an electric lady shaver to make mine short but not all off. Use the shaver without the guard for the edges. I have never removed all my pubic hair and have never waxed or used hair remover creams.

Cornonthelog · 18/07/2019 11:51

Wax but keep on top of it. It'll be easier and less painful each time. Honestly there isn't much else you can do. I hate it but the 10 mins of discomfort is hands down better than saving for 5 weeks!

Get a bikini wax, if I can handle a Brazilian you can hack the edges! 😂

longearedbat · 18/07/2019 11:52

I always found, too, that salt water irritated the freshly shaved or depilated area and could bring me out in a pimply rash, even if it looked okay before. As someone who's pubes seem to be trying to grow down to my knees, I am now off to Google board shorts.
