Only ever had Ikea bedding, and not even their expensive ones. As a present, looking to get some nice good quality/luxury/soft amazing bed sheets. What kind of thing do I want re thread count etc and any companies/brands you’d recommend? Want to get this right if I splurging!

I have Aldi's high thread count ones, good quality but not too £££

I recommend Cologne and Cotton or Soak and Sleep, about 200 thread count cotton. I found out the hard way that v expensive much higher thread count sheets shrink unless cool washed and I need to wash at 60 to kill dust mites.

Also DH's general hairiness made a 1000 thread count sheet go bobbly Blush

Whereas those I have from the companies above are great, softening up beautifully with age, and my first C&C duvet cover lasted about 12 years before wearing thin here and there.

Oh and TKMaxx, good for bottom or flat sheets if there are no sets you like, same sort of thread count. And extra pillowcases.

My mum swears by Ralph Lauren, she has the 1000+ thread count and cool washes and irons.

For splurging, I'd recommend the waterproof variety.

Waterproof sheet? Ok if you piss the bed I guess ...

FrenchHen · 17/07/2019 16:57

M&S do a comfortably cool range. It's amazing! Its a 200 thread count, beautifully silky, actually stays cool, washes fantastically, barely creases and it's not too expensive either.

I love love love Clarissa Hulse bedding.

I can't tell you the thread count, but I can tell you it feels lovely, withstands DH sleeping on it ( he's a very warm person and sweats in bed) and despite having it for a while looks and feels brand new.

I however did not pay full price for it. They sometimes have it in TK Maxx, which i would recommend you go to anyway and Google whilst in the shop.

Ooh, I’d like to follow! We’ve had the same bed sheets for about 15yrs!

Amara123 · 17/07/2019 17:08

Foxford, and they have a huge sale right now!

Knittedjimmychoos · 17/07/2019 18:27

Tk max, home sense. Really good range, lots of brands and thread counts and types. Roughly 14 /20 for Double sheet

DisplayPurposesOnly · 17/07/2019 19:37

I have both John Lewis and Soak & Sleep 200 thread cotton sheets for my spare bed. They're OK...

... but they are nowhere near as nice as the M&S 400 thread Egyptian cotton ones on my bed. They are so smooth. About £40 for a King-size fitted sheet, I think.

SillyBub · 17/07/2019 19:39

Secret Linen! Honestly their stuff is not only gorgeous to look at, it's so soft and comfortable and washes beautifully. I splurged once and now I can't go back!

mimibunz · 17/07/2019 19:39

White Company are the best along with Secret Linen. I have tried many over the years and these are my tried and true. Secret Linen is great value for money!

Anotherdayanothernight · 17/07/2019 19:41

Sheridan bed linen is good, especially when on sale

vinoandbrie · 17/07/2019 19:47

White Company every time!

Oldraver · 17/07/2019 19:50

Soak and Sleep French Linen.. They are sold over sized as they can shrink but are still the best fitting sheets I've had

Leftielefterson · 17/07/2019 19:54

Agree with other posters - the White Company sheets are really lovely and have a hotel feel.

Sadie789 · 17/07/2019 19:57

If you really mean splurging, then John Lewis’s high thread count sheets are amazing, wash well, and last.

Although a bit more reasonable is Dusk.com, just bought a set from there (sale on at moment) and very pleased with them. Super soft and washed well, I would say comparable to M&S but half the price.

Grinchly · 17/07/2019 20:43

aposterhasnoname · 17/07/2019 20:53

I’ve got bamboo sheets, they’re gorgeous, so soft and silky

I would say not Soak and Sleep French Linen - I find it scratchy and when I spent a few days in bed poorly it gave me sore elbows from being in bed for too long.

I have got some White Company linen bedding that is an entirely different story - lovely, not scratchy.

TreeSunset · 18/07/2019 17:19

Ha at needing waterproof sheets 😂

That’s really helpful about the washing issue, I need to be able to wash it at 60’

I have soak and sleep with quite a high thread count, and I do wash them at 60. They probably have shrunk a little bit, but they came big in the first place (probably to allow for that) so it's fine.
