Very unsuitable hotel, WWYD?

WWYD. please tell, it's a longish one

Booked a holiday, DH, DS(17), DD(2) and myself✈.
Explained to the travel agent i needed somewhere a suitable for both kid, in particular where DS could wander off and entertain himself alone some of the time whilst I could stay and relax with DD by a pool in a toddler friendly environment.

Committed a fair amount of money to having a nice holiday having had a dire stressful time health and work wise.
Arrived at hotel, over 100 steps, wound higledy pigbledy over cliff wihout bannisters, from property entrance to front door, virtually impossible with a buggy. No open spaces where a toddler can safely safely walk as everything is on a clifft top with no barriers or railings and sheer drops to rocks below.⛰🏞 The pool is small, is only deep, has no space around it in which to walk as it is stiffed full of loungers. A hotel with capacity for 950 has approx 200 loungers. And the poll is pretty packed with the poll from that many in. The suggested shingle beach is in fact a small concrete platform over more rock with ladders to the water. The "playground" is only suitable for kids aged maybe 8 years and is also surrounded by cliff edge drops.
Making matters worse, DD has serious dairy allergy, i checked in advance hotel had oat milk which was confirmed. The hotel have yried twice to pass hrt off with soya milk yo ehich she is also evtremely allergic- she could die. Despite this they ate oblivious. Despite caiming to stock the ost milk on the phone, on arrival they didn't even know what it was and I have to travel I hr to get it-i had space to bring it had I known.
We are totally restricted on what to do, we are at a loss. There is nothing resembling a beach nearby. We trekked to the nearest rocky scrap which is hopeless and without an inch even to swing a cat in.
Have contacted the agent explained the problem. She contacted the hotel who (surprise surprise said their hotel was totally child appropriate). There is even a hole the width of my toddler through the balcony wall-on the 9th floor.
Family is awfully stressull, I'm not in best health to be trekking in a sightseeg mission is really not what I need and that really unfair on a child who is only just 2.
There are 2, maybe 3 children we have seen here. The whole hotel, definitely the resort is catered towards the more eldery guest.
I know this is rambling. Sorry.

But WWYD?
We,re/I'm going a bit nuts; the stress is starts to show already😫😫.

@lljkk
I wouldn't recommend it for elderly guests at all however, bizarrely the hotel population was very largely made up of this demographic.

@Mythdespell
I can't think why in I million years you'd think I needed to save face..espe jelly not to a Go up a "names" I don't actually k ow in real life?
I tend to waste my time with untruths, it's not worth the effort.

Hotel booked through an independent croation specialist in the same way I book an Iceland specialist for trips there a Cuba for Cuban holidays. You tend to get the best insight on areas etc.

Oopps Bit to clicky. Itsxawell troed gormula thats eorked in 60 countried for us.

  1. agent advertised and indicated they were a Croatian specialist . It later came to light the have no understanding or knowledge of the areas. Blatant selling and misrepresentation. Illegal.agsinst ABTA guidelines.
  2. Agent called and explained they were trying to sort out refund.
3.received a calladking if for the rest of the trip we wished to move to a 4star( should be 5, , where a previous communist relic was a 3 an most).unfortunately a suite or 2 rooms wete no longer avsilable but the hotel is fabulous justxeniugh to be reasonable small enough to be boutique. All the staff are excellent, the resort is like chalk and cheese. My daughter loves Skype calling her godparent every 2-3 days .her godfather is UK lawyers will be filing for a for not only a full refunx but apparently also the dustress element and the agents false advertising .

I'm sure you will think you know more than me. So many mumsetter do, especially when they are not in your shoes o know the Intrcies of life.

I asked WWYD.
Lots burned do more research and in an ideal world I might. The world isn't fair.
I have a really nasty disability, I rarely mention it but why should I as I'm being told to do more, I work on highly technical information can not be one word wrong whilst dealing with a2 year old and trying coach the27 yrrar old through art and Dr a levels. My toddler has a camp set up now in my office and runs a picnic zone for my staff.
So my question wasn't what should i have done in was what would you do going on.

Thanks to those who didn't choose it as another typical MN slagging fest!

😂you think I'd ever buy from them again!!!
Nope definitely refund as u mentioned it's been confirmed by a rather good kawyer in the UK.
We even bee given back 60pc before for things like singles pushed together as a double as no sea view when the should be one. Abta is there to protect. Any form of misselling or anytime you do not get what you purchase entitles you to a refund.

You sound like a nightmare traveller if I'm honest. I would never expect a refund for the things above, far less a 60% refund. If you are as well travelled as you say you are (60 countries) you surely would be more savvy than to take the word expert at face value without any background research on the company.

@GlamGiraffe that balcony picture was horrendous, gave me shivers thinking about a child being out on that.... and the travel agent thinking it was suitable for young children?!😱 you have deffo been missold and you need to fight for a refund!

PancakeAndKeith · 21/07/2019 19:13

I thought every room faced the sea and therefore had a sea view.

blue25 · 21/07/2019 20:26

Well you have very different taste in holidays to me. I thought Abu Dhabi was a horrible, soulless place. Anyway, you have to do your own research before you travel. Only you know exactly what your family needs for a good holiday.

MarthasGinYard · 21/07/2019 21:35

Agree re AD

Awful

ysmaem · 21/07/2019 21:42

When going on holiday you have to do so much research yourself. Read reviews on various trusted websites such as trip advisor. These type of websites also have visitor photos and they always paint a very different picture to the photos travel agents and websites offer. In the meantime take plenty of photos of your stay and send them in an email to your agent so it proves how unsuitable the hotel really is.

Fight for a refund Op, I've booked rooms on booking.com that have been shite and I've always fought to get my money back. I don't always but I try, why should we be ripped off just because we've paid up and we are not at home? I'm sick of being taken for a mug and I've travelled extensively myself. Sometimes I feel like tourists are treated like cash cows.
