I've just booked the holiday from hell

DH and I thought we'd try out being spontaneous and booked a last min hol for us and the kids for week after next. Had 4 out of 5 on trip advisor so - without reading the reviews - thought we'd be safe. After booking decided to read reviews to get me further excited about holiday. I find out it's opposite a building site, the walls are paper thin so no sleep, it's been rife with a sickness bug and there are jellyfish in the sea. I don't know how, but someone please help Sad

There’s a two week ‘cooling off period’ by law where you can cancel?

ScrambledToe · 16/07/2019 22:51

There’s jelly fish in all the seas! Just depends on the time of year

Abillity2019 · 16/07/2019 22:53

What country is it?

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 16/07/2019 22:53

There must be lots of good reviews though, to get four star overall.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 16/07/2019 22:56

Where is it OP?

TantricTwist · 16/07/2019 23:06

It might be completely different when you go.

When were the bad reviews posted?

BarbaraofSeville · 16/07/2019 23:12

Mentioning jelly fish in the sea in a hotel review is firmly in 'thickos on Trip Advisor' terrortory.

Add in the fact that some people complain about anything and people are more likely to review something if they're unhappy and you'll probably find that it's absolutely fine. If it's 4 star overall, sounds like most people are perfectly satisfied.

GabsAlot · 16/07/2019 23:26

Theres jellyfish and? when was the sickness bug

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 16/07/2019 23:29

Why go on Trip Advisor prior to booking and NOT read any reviews???

That's so odd.

Percypigparade · 16/07/2019 23:31

I've recently spent a week in a place with (according to trip advisor) had paper thin walls, sickness and cockroaches.
It was great Smile

Chune · 16/07/2019 23:31

Bet it’s Menorca

HairyFloppins · 16/07/2019 23:39

You can't post that and not say where it is? I like reading bad reviews on tripadvisor.

AlwaysCheddar · 17/07/2019 06:50

There’s not a cooling off period without paying penalties.

memaymamo · 17/07/2019 07:02

Did you only go back and read the negative reviews? Surely with 4/5 stars most reviews are going to be positive. Just read those ones.

Daffodil2018 · 17/07/2019 07:08

Forewarned is forearmed. Take ear plugs, hand sanitiser and snacks! It probably won't be that bad - people love to have a whinge on TripAdvisor.

hopeishere · 17/07/2019 07:11

People are so picky on trip advisor. We're just back from holiday and the hotel we were in got some very poor reviews.

It was fine!! I find American reviewers to be the most picky!!

^^ wrong thread! Grin

Username19 · 17/07/2019 07:28

It sounds like the reviews of a hotel we went to last month in Majorca and it was absolutely fine. Have you had a look how many bad in relation to good ones?

cloudyinjune · 17/07/2019 07:33

Jellyfish are keen on warmer waters, love a bit of Mediterranean sea.

I find with reviews you have to balance a bit. Look at the dates too.
Email hotel and ask for a quiet room, might not work but, then make your own impression.

Or cancel if you are too worried

Mynxie · 17/07/2019 07:37

We’ve just come back from a holiday that had terrible reviews on TA and it was honestly one of the best we’ve ever had. We cannot understand what merited some of the comments, some people just like a good moan I guess

Northernsoullover · 17/07/2019 07:39

Where are you going?

Qsandmore · 17/07/2019 07:39

TA is full of bull. Try booking.com reviews before panicking, verified people who have stayed.

newmomof1 · 17/07/2019 07:48

People tend to write reviews when they've had a bad time, rather than every time (good/bad).

I'm sure you'll be ok

gottastopeatingchocolate · 17/07/2019 07:49

Who gets worried about a little jellyfish?
