How did I not know about how good ALDI is? Does everyone know? Am I late to the party?

Hate it. The quality is terrible

MmmBlowholes · 15/07/2019 21:16

It's cheap enough and I like some of the products but the experience isn't worth it. I feel like people lose their sense of courtesy upon entering. The amount of times I've been barged out of the way is crazy, despite being a considerate shopper.

goldrush2 · 15/07/2019 21:21

Oh wow, I've found the quality to be on par with M&S and fellow shoppers lovely.

You should try Lidl, it’s like Aldi but better.

Outbackbbq · 15/07/2019 21:24

Its a no from me.

Lidl - at a push. I got shouted at by some woman in there Hmm

I like Morrisons.

Then Tesco.

Then Sainsburys.

Then Lidl.

Then Asda.

Then Aldi.

We have a new Aldi near us and it's fab. I've been really impressed by the quality of the food and it's nothing like the experience that I've read ab out on here. Checkout service is swift, but I have always managed to pack into my bags in my trolley at the same speed as the checkout staff, and all the staff have been friendly and courteous.

And the cost/value is amazing - easily 30% cheaper than my Sainsbury shop, and I can get most stuff I'd buy at Sainsbury's there.

So it's a big thumbs up from me

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/07/2019 21:42

I switched to aldi because, unlike Lidl, they do a coffee pod that fits my machine. I have been pleased with it, except - chicken! The chicken is awful, never lasts til the date, I've thrown three lots away now so I'm going back to Lidl. I don't buy fruit and veg there as I use a greenGrocer.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 15/07/2019 21:45

I found Aldi is an acquired taste. I wasn’t keen at first but on the whole I love it now. I can’t get everything in there but I pop into Asda or Tesco for anything I can’t get in Aldi. Absolutely hate the tills at Lidl, there are always long queues, it really puts me off going in there, Aldi always open more checkouts if anyone is waiting so you get through really quick.

BackBoiler · 15/07/2019 21:46

I like certain items at Aldi and they are cheaper than Asda etc but the veg is awful and with some items theres barely any choice

el1zabeth · 15/07/2019 21:48

Lidl wins my vote, it's just as cheap as Aldi but seems to be less dishevelled and untidy, plus it has a wonderful bakery. Best of all is the 'middle of Lidl' aisle, it's great for rummaging and finding things you don't need but because they're cheap, you might as well buy it anyway!

ThatCurlyGirl · 15/07/2019 21:48

My love for, and relationship with, Lidl is one of the healthiest I've ever had. 😂

Bezalelle · 15/07/2019 21:52

I switched to Lidl from Tesco and I've never looked back. It's almost halved my grocery bill. Their Cien night cream is amazing too.

Firstimemam · 15/07/2019 23:26

Ze Germans came over & sell cheap german food over here - Lidl & Aldi are the cheapest shops there as well. Being German myself, I'm quite happy about it as they sell certain German products I can't get elsewhere but prefer Sainsbury's as usually the quality is better! I'd shop at Waitrose if Id have the money - I don't haha

Heymummee · 15/07/2019 23:29

I’m Aldi’s biggest fan. Everyone in my family thinks I secretly work for them.
Absolutely love it. Great quality, cheap and my local Aldi is always well stocked, very tidy and lovely staff. I haven’t shopped at Tesco or Morrison’s for 5 years.
A lot of people complain about fruit and veg there, but ours has always been brilliant.
Nappies are great too. Also love the chocolate.

Cutantrim · 15/07/2019 23:29

I love Aldi. But I’ve had to start restricting myself to only using a basket, not a trolly, and that keeps down my ill-advised middle aisle purchases to a minimum. I bought a set of ratchet straps, a pop up tent and a mastick gun one week.

Tavannach · 15/07/2019 23:32

We have a new Aldi near us. It's certainly cheaper so would be helpful if we were on a very tight budget. We're not, and I find the quality variable, sometimes poor. Items which are good are not always in stock.
On top of that one of our local shops, an established family business, has closed down and another, a high quality independent grocer/deli is feeling the squeeze.
So I'm not a massive fan of Aldi myself.

TheyCallMeMellowYellow · 15/07/2019 23:39

I really don't get the love of Aldi. I've tried it 3 times now... the quality is rubbish.

They do bloody nice chocolate though. That's their one saving grace.

Pomgirl · 15/07/2019 23:43

Moved to OZ and Aldi is quite new here. It’s amazing and better quality then the UK I think. Chicken always smells a little funky but tastes fine Grin
Saves a fortune to as the other supermarkets are unbelievably expensive for some items!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 15/07/2019 23:49

I love Aldi! I've only experienced one nice Lidl, the rest have felt dirty and unkempt?!

DontCallMeShitley · 16/07/2019 00:02

Not keen on Aldi, manky veg, low quality, you get what you pay for, sliced bread is almost an inch thick...
Hate Lidl, quality sucks, mouldy produce.
Can't get a full shop in either. And palm oil in far too many items.

EileenAlanna · 16/07/2019 03:41

I don't have a Lidl or Asda near enough to use (I don't drive) but I do have an Aldi. Oh, the joy, the bliss!!!!! I love Aldi. I especially love their sherry & Irish Cream. Best shop ever.

barryfromclareisfit · 16/07/2019 04:22

Remember the ‘Morrisons’ thread? Page after page of free advertising. Not going quite so well for Aldi, is it?,

Yerroblemom1923 · 16/07/2019 04:47

I don't like the amount of packaging on their fruit and veg but apart from that we're fans. Our weekly shop usually comes in at under £40.
I tell the check out staff to slow down if they are throwing food at me.

JMAngel1 · 16/07/2019 05:35

I love Aldi - staff super helpful and amazing healthy options available. I can shop like a King for £90 a week, want for nothing and be in and out in 25 mins.

fantasmasgoria1 · 16/07/2019 06:12

I love aldi and lidl, the quality is good and a lot of variety. I will go to asda, sainsbury and tesco for missed bits or specific items. Morrisons I find to be poor quality and expensive.
