How did I not know about how good ALDI is? Does everyone know? Am I late to the party?

I've only ever been to one branch, as there isn't another for about 20 miles from us. I have to say the major off-putting thing is the car park which is hellish, really badly laid out and very busy as its too small and close to other shops.

BIWI · 16/07/2019 09:19

Yes parking is an issue - I never bother if it's the weekend, but just go straight to the Sainsbury's next door!

MerryDeath · 16/07/2019 09:21

some things are good/some are not. i can't do my weekly shop there and come away with everything and there is no way i am going to two different shops to save a few quid so i inevitably end up in sainsbury's 99% of the time. also, scan and pack.

we've just moved and there is a lidl also beat so i will try that at some point.

HiGunny · 16/07/2019 09:39

I'm also in Ireland, there are two Aldis in my town and both are brilliant. I only started shopping there a couple of years ago as when they first opened in Ireland they were very basic and I hated them. Now they have a much better product range and are better quality. No issues with their meat or fruit.

I find the staff are much nicer than in the other local supermarkets and there is less queuing at the tills.

Ragwort · 16/07/2019 19:20

Can't believe you find the quality of Aldi the same as M & S ? I do have a local Aldi but find the fruit & veg very poor & I hate the queues and the lack of customer service. Lidl is great for bakery goods but my dream supermarket is Booths Grin

EssentialHummus · 16/07/2019 19:35

Love them and Lidl. Especially the specialbuys / aisle of shite - I have a stunning, frequently complimented on garden furniture from Aldi, £45 for a large set. And my local Lidl does sef-checkout, which deals with the only thing about shopping there that I don’t like.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 16/07/2019 19:45

I like the odd thing in Aldi but don't love it. I do however love Lidl and find we eat a lot better than just shopping at Tesco as our money stretches further. Our local one is great and the staff are lovely.

Hate Morrisons, our local Sainsbury's is too far and in the middle of the city centre, Asda/Tesco are okay. Haven't got a Waitrose.

bobstersmum · 16/07/2019 20:00

Aldi is fab, I popped in today and got 4 large plants and two large compost, a bag of ready to light charcoal and lunch for dd and I, £20.

Yogagirl123 · 16/07/2019 20:07

Aldi lover here too, Lidl is closer to where we live, but worth a longer drive to go to Aldi IMHO

ReapersHowler · 16/07/2019 20:26

I was loving ALDI recently until we got a massive pack of gone off bacon and chicken breast that was stringy while raw in one shop. Put me right off.

ReginaGeorgeous · 16/07/2019 20:52

I like a few things from Aldi. I think their baby products are good; I've used their nappies and wipes for both DC and I rate their pouches that are a knock off of the Ella's Kitchen range.

I like their cheese, yoghurts, dorito type crisps and dips and their chocolate but in my experience their meat, fruit, cereals etc are of a poor quality. Am usually an Ocado and M&S shopper.

teenagenonfanclub · 16/07/2019 21:00

I find the quality varies massively between Aldi stores. I went in one last night and was appalled; it was seriously like it had been attacked by locusts! Empty shelves, only manky fruit & veg left. Rubbish strewn everywhere. Think I bought a few jars of pasta sauce and left.

However the branch I normally visit is modern, clean and well stocked

yourestandingonmyneck · 16/07/2019 21:06

I think Aldi and Lidl are generally on a par with each other. It really just depends on how good/bad that individual store is.

Some of the old grotty ones make for a pretty dismal shopping experience. The new ones are fantastic - light, airy, modern buildings with a very European vibe. Lots of good points.

I can also get a bit overwhelmed / despondent by the sheer volume and variety of things on offer in Asda, Tesco etc. I prefer the European way of just having one decent quality item.

Livingthedream12345 · 16/07/2019 21:56

I'm an aldi lover. A week's shop done in 15mins for £50. Think our local has a new manager...the staff have started asking how my day is! It's like waitrose but much quicker!

dingit · 17/07/2019 10:41

An Aldi shop never takes me 15 mins, I need browsing time for the aisle of wonder/shite

AnnemarieBella1234 · 19/03/2020 02:02

Can anyone help me wud be most grateful,💕💕💕💕

Thepigeonsarecoming · 19/03/2020 02:07

I love my local Aldi, I’m always a little amazed at the checkout price after years of Tesco shopping. Plus I can buy my dog a new toy pretty much every visit! Spoiled dog, happy shopper :)

I tried it recently and hated it .. such a weird shop and not even much cheaper . Tesco is worth it for me to get the rewards . Plus the one near me has little parking and was just a grim experience !

Bluesheep8 · 19/03/2020 07:19

Aldi fan here, shopped there for around 15 years. Even buy all my skincare there. Never had a problem with the quality of anything. Love it

Bluesheep8 · 19/03/2020 07:20

Ooops, didn't realise it was an ancient thread

SumOfTheSquares · 19/03/2020 09:49

I like Aldi and their prices but can’t say I like their fruit and veg.
I just wish they’d get rid of the ‘junk’ aisle in the middle and stock more lines/variety instead.
