I'm ill and I'm in the mood for a bad but enjoyable film. I'd appreciate any suggestions. TIA

OP posts:
PutyourtoponTrevor · 15/07/2019 22:20

Robert (it's about a tyre)
Kung Fury

LenoVentura · 15/07/2019 22:21

Pretty much anything with Nicholas Cage in it - Gone in 60 Seconds also has the ghastly Angelina Jolie as a bonus.
The Perfect Storm is also dreadful. I love it and always used to have it on while cleaning. I miss it now we don't have a dvd player.

Latenightreader · 15/07/2019 22:22

Atomic Train. Every cliche imaginable and someone escapes from a nuclear blast by hiding in a concrete pipe. Great fun and a surprisingly recognisable cast.

FermatsTheorem · 15/07/2019 22:25

While reminding myself of some classics, I stumbled on this on the Rotten Tomatoes website - 150 erotic films ranked from worst to best:
editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/erotic-movies-ranked-worst-to-best/

Could be a rich seam to mine, OP.

I particularly like these descriptions:

Fifty Shades of Grey: While creatively better endowed than its print counterpart, Fifty Shades of Grey is a less than satisfying experience on the screen.

Caligula: Endlessly perverse and indulgent, Caligula throws in hardcore sex every time the plot threatens to get interesting.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/07/2019 22:27

If you're in need of something fluffier than usual the Nic Cage offerings then Pitch Perfect is a good option.

And I say this as a die hard Nic Cage fan.

ThatCurlyGirl · 15/07/2019 22:28

Shark films.

I have no idea why.

Specifically shark films. It's extra weird because they're obviously super tense and scary but I just love them so I find them relaxing. Weirdo.

The meg, the shallows and 47 metres down are top easy viewing for me when I can't think what to watch.

Watching The Meg for the millionth time right now.

There was a terrible week where I finally had my fill of shark films and I ventured into the wider territory of croc films and anaconda.

Don't worry though, I saw the error of my ways and I'm bang back on the sharks now.

Watched Sharknadoe with dh and dsis and bil, we cried with laughter.

feckingfireengine · 15/07/2019 22:28

Snakes on a plane

Namechange170518 · 15/07/2019 22:30

Strictly ballroom

Potcallingkettle · 15/07/2019 22:31

Another vote for Starship Troupers

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 15/07/2019 22:31

Pretty much anything involving The Rock. My picks would be:
Central Intelligence
Rampage
The one with the tall building on fire that I can't remember the name of but is categorically NOT Towering InfernoSmile

Tinytomato2 · 15/07/2019 22:31

The Three Amigos!

NEtoN10 · 15/07/2019 22:42

Made of Honor - love that film.

10 things I hate about you

Harry potter's / jurrasic Park

OneFootintheRave · 15/07/2019 22:44

Deffo Roadhouse with Swayze as a bouncer/philosopher

Purpletigers · 15/07/2019 22:47

The sharknado ones

BSJohnson · 15/07/2019 23:04

The lair of the white worm: nuns, Roman soldiers, bad sex, and a very young Hugh Grant.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/07/2019 23:12

That’s sounds like a classic of the bad film genre, Johnson can’t believe I haven’t seen it.

MyNameIsRachelAndIWantAPresent · 15/07/2019 23:13

Legally blonde (1 and 2)
Miss Congeniality (1 only)
Pitch perfect (1 &2 but not 3)
Point break (original with Keanu)

HearMeSnore · 15/07/2019 23:17

The Princess Bride

Craftycorvid · 15/07/2019 23:22

From Dusk ‘til Dawn - actually I love that one, a genuine fave.

ThatCurlyGirl · 15/07/2019 23:44

Ooh and The Break Up.

And Just Go With It.

I wish The Parent Trap (Lohan version) was on Netflix or Amazon Prime but don't think it is.

Oh man I need a movie marathon sesh soon to check some of PPs suggestions out!

Luaa · 15/07/2019 23:49

Grease 2 is one of my favourite films ever!

Speakercube · 15/07/2019 23:50

Sweet home alabama. Along came polly. The break up. Jumping jack flash. (whoopi goldberg). Overboard-goldie horn and kurt russell.

EugenesAxe · 16/07/2019 00:05

I like disaster movies... some are actually decent, like Dante's Peak or Deep Impact, but most are trash. Good or bad, all are deeply formulaic, namely:

  • Fit head girl and/or boy
  • Geeky hangers on
  • Stoical/stubborn older person doomed to die or get wounded
  • Someone who knows f- all, who can ask questions about what the hell is happening on behalf of the entire audience
  • Head-in-the-sand official or other evil person; often with a hick or deep South accent
  • Lots of power words that mean nothing

Twister is probably my favourite that covers all of these.

"Wait! (looking at tornado unchanged from five seconds earlier) She's gonna shift to the right"
"Are you sure?!"
"Oh yes - look at the angle, the updrafts - definitely a sidewinder!"

BayTrees · 16/07/2019 00:15

The Princess Bride does NOT belong here. It is a great film! So bad it's good - inconceivable!
Sharknado films are fun, also The Librarian. Often seem to repeat on the SciFi channel.
Nightstalker and Nightstrangler made for TV films, and the Nightstalker TV series from the 70's are very silly with gloriously naff effects. If you want to go really old school, any Ed Wood movie but particularly Plan 9 From Outer Space. I have never managed to get through it in one go. Oh, Toho studio Godzilla films. There were loads but Destroy All Monsters is the only name I can remember. I think channel 4 ran a late night season of them around the late 1980's.
Bah. Princess Bride.
Totally the wrong thread.
